Traditional House In Beautiful Rural Setting With Private Pool, Garden And Patio

Overview

Property

Updated: 10-Sep-2016
Cottage in Concots, Lot, Midi-Pyrenees, France - Private, Tranquil Location With Views Across The Valley But Within Two Minutes Walk Of Village

The house is accessed up a long, private driveway with ample parking for 2 or more cars and is perfect for early evening games of boules! A raised external terrace with large, motorised awning and beautiful rose bush is the perfect location for long, lazy breakfasts and lunches. The accommodation is arranged over two split levels with two double bedrooms, bathroom, w.c. and living spaces on the upper level with a further 2 bedrooms and bathroom on the lower level. The house is ideally set up to accommodate two separate families and comes equipped with all of the appliances you would expect in a modern home. The décor is light and airy and the many sliding glass doors allow the house to open up to the garden on sunny days. We are a family with young children, so safety is important to us and we have specifically set up the house with this in mind. The private pool (with pool cover) is located within a secure, fenced garden and has its own immersion alarm for added peace of mind.

About the Owner

We bought our house in France about 10 years ago. It is owned jointly by my father and elder brother but has been used by the extended family throughout that time with the result that our own children have learned to love rural France just we we did 30 years ago. Our children were just babies when we first went on holiday to the house with the result that it has been designed to meet the needs of families of all ages with all the modern conveniences that allow you to genuinely relax on holiday. It is not perfect nor is it a show home. It is a genuine family home which has to withstand the rigours of daily life but still allow each and every member of the family to chill out and relax either on their own after a long day in the sun by the pool or together on the terrace for a family meal.

Perfect House for two families

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 spent two week here with friends (family of 4) and had one of the most relaxing holidays ever. The house is very well designed and equipped for two families, with a very bright and spacious central kitchen and living area which included all the essential for children (High Chair/ TV / DVD etc). The wonderful outside space includes a large dining area which is perfect for those long holiday breakfasts with fresh croissants and coffee and even longer dinners with BBQ and local wines.

The pool is a great size and it felt very safe for the younger children in the party and parents were able to relax on the comfy sun loungers.

Bread and croissants were bought daily from the village boulangerie and a great selection of fresh produce at the weekly Sunday market held in the village, a bigger shop was in Limogne approx. 4 miles from the house.

Apart from the leisurely routine of rural France (some great local walks looking for treasure), the kids went horse riding and canoeing in the River Lot nearby. There is a Go Ape type tree top adventure in Cahors but we never got around to that.

We also visited the caves at Pech Merle and the delightful village of St Cirq La Popie.

Rodez Airport was only 45 mins away and the city of Toulouse (1 hour) again we had planned but never got there although we gather there is a great space museum!

We loved this holiday and have vowed to return to what we thought was a perfect house.

Really lovely property

  • 5 of 5

Lovely property in an unspoilt part of France, with an excellent pool. Quiet spot but with good access to local shops and amenities and great outdoor space.

Location

From the Owner

Concots is rural France at its best. Free of the bustle and intensity of urban life, there seem to be more hours in the day and time slows down. Nestled in a gently undulating valley, it is the landscape rather than the buildings that define this part of France. The way we have been welcomed by the local community has been humbling and the invitations to local dinner parties, birthday parties and festivals is testimony to their warmth and hospitality. Don't expect extensive menus or formulaic food. Instead enjoy the beautiful local cooking, full of organic ingredients and washed down with regional wines that cost pennies rather than pounds. Local markets are a revelation, full of life and variety and a reminder of what communities are built on. Food for the belly and soul!

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Rodez at 60 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Le Tabac at 50 Metres Nearest Train : Cahors at 30 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Le Vinagrou at 50 Metres Car: necessary

Special interest holidays:

The Lot region is an area of beautiful, dramatic countryside suffused with history and famed for its many picturesque towns and villages. Le Bourg is in Concots, a small village in the Causse de Quercy.

There are many activities to enjoy around the area including canoeing (on the Lot and Cele), rock climbing, river cruises (at Cahors and Bouzies), horse riding, cycling, tennis (in the village and Figeac), river swimming, golf and walking (the area is criss-crossed by several of the Grand Randonee as well as walks along the river Lot at Bouzies under spectacular carved out cliffs).

The area is also famed for its rich, heavy wine ('black wine') and many happy hours can be spent taking a leisurely drive along the Lot west of Cahors, stopping at the stunning châteaux dotted throughout and sampling their wares.

Details of these activities are available in the house and there are several maps and guides for walking.

Travel:

There are a number of regional and national airports that provide access to the house. These include Toulouse (1 hour 15 minutes), Rodez (1 hour 30 minutes), Limoges (2 hour 15 minutes) and Bergerac (2 hours 30 minutes). Car hire facilities are provided at all of these airports.

Distances:

The house is just 2 minutes walk from the centre of Concots village where there are a range of local amenities and markets on a Wednesday and Sunday morning. The nearest town is Limogne (20 minutes by car) where there are 2 small supermarkets and a wider range of shops. The stunning, UNESCO-protected, medieval town of St Cirq Lapopie is 25 minutes away whilst the beautiful town of Cahors is just 35 minutes by car and combines the charm of medieval buildings with the facilities of a large town.

Further Details:

We have owned our house in France for over 10 years and our family have been made welcome by everyone in the village during that time. We are sure that our guests will be shown the same hospitality during their stay. Importantly, we have an English speaking representative on hand to look after the house during your stay, so any problems are easy to sort out.

The house, locality and wider region provide something for everyone. For visitors with very young children there are still plenty of things to do. Swimming in the pool tends to take up most of our children's time but further afield than the garden you can find 'petit train' journeys around Cahors and Villefranche de Rouergue, miniature boats at Capdenac Gare (on the outskirts of Figeac), pedalos, canoes and a secure 'river beach' near St Cirq Lapopie as well as a playground, mini-golf, a skate board park and a picnic area. The cliifside town of Rocamadour is well worth a visit as are the caves at Gouffre de Padirac and Pech Merle. There is reasonably priced, family-friendly water park in Cahors with areas for toddlers and there are several animal parks around the region.

Facilities

From the Owner

Whether you want to hide away from the world for a few weeks or embrace everything the region has to offer (or even a bit of both), our house is a lovely place to stay. Sufficiently modern to make the chores of daily life simple but traditional in character with a focus on nature, outdoor spaces and the surrounding landscape. We have regularly welcomed other young families of 4 and have found the layout perfect with each family living 'independently' of one another in one suite of bedrooms and bathroom either side of the central living spaces. The car can be become redundant if you choose. The morning walk to the bakery (and a quick coffee at the tabac on the way), lunch on the terrace and a short walk to La Vinagrou for an evening supper under the stars.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The house was built in the mid-1970's in a traditional French cottage style. We have extensively modernised the house in the last 10 years to meet the needs of our growing and ageing families and have spent many happy summers and Christmases in the house, testing it to the full on every occasion! Whilst it is a fabulous summer destination, it is also ideal for spring, autumn or winter breaks with a full complement of radiators to all rooms and a magnificent log fire in the lounge. Outside: The house is accessed up a long drive with mature hedges to one side and a stone wall and open field to the other. We have invested heavily in the garden and surrounding borders which add greatly to the privacy and calmness from within the garden without compromising long views over the valley. Each section of the garden is secure and provides controlled environments for children and pets alike! We have recently purchased a new barbecue which can be used on the front terrace or by the pool. A large, hardwood table is located outside on the front terrace and can comfortably seat 8 people. The private pool measures approximately 10x4m and is located to the south of the house in the garden. The pool is not visible from any surrounding properties. It is surrounded by paving slabs and a patio space but adjacent to the lawn with easy access to the cabin where you will find a full range of garden furniture and inflatables. The pool is cleaned every week and comes with an insulated cover. Utility Room: The house contains all of the equipment necessary to run a modern home. These are located in the entrance hall, kitchen and outside in the garden cabin. Equipment includes hoover, dustpan and brush, floor mops etc. as well as a range of garden tools. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen to all beds are provided and stored within the house. The property is cleaned before all guests arrive. For those who are staying two weeks, cleaners can be arranged to visit half way through your visit (for cleaning and washing). Other: Bedroom 4 is a large twin room with direct access to the front terrace and views over the swimming pool. It includes a small lounge area and is big enough to accommodate 1 or 2 further camp beds (not included). There are 2 baby cots stored in the cabin.
