Cottage in Alcombe, Minehead, Nr. Exmoor, Somerset, England - Quietly Situated In The Older Part Of Alcombe On The Edge Of The Exmoor National Park

This lovely Grade II listed cottage was built for the local lime kiln workers and is one of a terrace of cottages, which cluster around a charming chapel, frequented by the former landowner and still in use to this day. A peaceful location in the older part of Alcombe, a few minutes walk from the Exmoor National Park whose boundary is just up the hill beyond the cottages. Alcombe is situated on the outskirts of Minehead, a popular seaside town with shops, restaurants and a large sandy beach. The historic village of Dunster is also within a 20 minute walk with its' Castle and Yarn Market and holds the annual Dunster by Candlelight event at the beginning of December.

"A very enjoyable week with lots of walking from the cottage! The Lion at Timberscombe is very good for a walk and lunch. Walks around Dunster also excellent. Good lunches too at Porlock Weir pub. Really enjoyed the walk around Lynton and Lynmouth and Watersmeet. Our first visit to Exmoor, but not our last!"

Such a Lovely Place!!

What a lovely place! We stayed here for only three nights and left wishing we could stay longer. The cottage, if not very clean, had every thing we could have hoped for. The town of Minehead is very lovely with a great lunch spot in Owls: a cafe/restaurant with fantastic meals, good prices, comfy sofas and wifi. Owner is lovely. A visit to North Hill is well worth it, with wild ponies and views over the town (bit hard to find. Ask a local!) Cottage itself was nice and warm on a dreary summers day, but you could open the windows to catch a cool breeze if needed. Beds were very comfortable, booking was quick and easy, and was amazing value for money. The only reasons we would not give the collage five stars is the fact that it was not clean and the parking was about 100-150 meters away. This will definitely be our spot for exploring Exmoor in the future!

Quaint and cosy cottage

Very cosy and clean cottage. Not ideal for a young dog, very small back garden which was all covered in decking. Would not class it as dog friendly.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry that you felt our cottage was not dog friendly. We have had many dog owners stay before and have not has a single negative comment, in fact the opposite, if you read the previous reviews posted. We think the real problem was the age of your dog, only 10 months old, and the fact that you were unable to exercise it away from the cottage. I did query the suitability of the cottage at the time of booking but you were insistent all would be well. Using the garden as a dog's latrine is not something we actively encourage our guests to do, the whole of Exmoor is just waiting for dog lovers five minutes up the hill.

Wish I could give this 6 stars!

The cottage is spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished and very well equipped. The location is perfect too, just a short walk to the Combe with its woods, moors and numerous bridle paths - a veritable doggy heaven - within very easy reach of all the amenities Minehead has to offer and an ideal base for touring Somerset & Devon.

Booking and paying was simple and hassle-free and the owners very helpful. Lots of information provided and still willing to answer extra questions.

Highly recommend

This is a brilliant cottage, very cosy and homely and very nicely furnished and well stocked. Dogs are made to feel welcome too with dog bowls and dog towels provided.

It is in a lovely area with lovely walks and only a short walk into Minehead.

The neighbours are very friendly too.

The welcome pack on arrival was a nice too too.

I will certainly stay here again. I would highly recommend this cottage.

The owners are very helpful too.

This part of Somerset has it all, a dramatic coastline, wild moors and wooded valleys. A much loved part of the country for my family for many years.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : The Brittannia Inn at 300 Metres Nearest Beach : Dunster at 1 Miles Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

Large sandy beach at Minehead, pebble and sand at Dunster both only a few minutes by car or 20 minutes on foot.

For surfing Woolacombe Bay is approx. 45 minute drive over the moor.

The South West Way Coastal walk begins at Minehead.

Distances:

Within walking distance of pubs, restaurants and the town centre of Minehead.

Further Details:

The historic village of Dunster with its' castle and Yarn Market is just a few minutes drive away. Minehead has plenty of shops and restaurants as well as the West Somerset Steam Railway. A little further afield are Porlock, Lynmouth and Ilfracombe with boat trips to Lundy Island.

Local facilities to the cottage include The Brittannia Arms pub, Post Office, Delicatessen, Small Supermarket, Fish and Chip Takeaway and Alcombe Tandoori Restaurant.

Our favourite thing to do while staying at Lime Cottage is to take a picnic and walk up to Exmoor and enjoy the views. The cottage is perfectly located, a peaceful spot with the moor just a few minutes walk up the lane and a great local pub just a minutes walk down the lane, it couldn't be better. The pub is people as well as dog friendly too!
