Dale Cottage is a charming and spacious (160 sq m) detached holiday retreat in a secluded yet convenient position in the heart of the ever-popular village of Thornham. The cottage has been fully refurbished with 4 bedrooms (2 en suite) as well as a large family bathroom. There is a large and comfortable lounge with a wood-burning stove, a separate kitchen / diner with seating for 8/9 and a full range of equipment (washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave). A large entrance hall provides additional seating as well as space to put on coats / shoes.
Outside there is off-street parking for up to 3 cars at the front. The rear garden is large, carefully tended and boasts a children's play area and a comfortable summer house.
Hi - we're a busy working family of four living in Hertfordshire. We visit Dale Cottage as often as we can.
We enjoy being active outdoors, eating out and entertaining friends and family. Dale Cottage enables us to do all of the things we love in a wonderful setting.
Dave Phatak purchased this cottage in 2013
We love being close to the sea and great beaches with our young children. We get great pleasure from being outdoors and getting away from the normal business of everyday life.
We bought Dale Cottage as our own 2nd home so that our children can enjoy all of the benefits of beach and country living. We have refurbished it to a high standard so that it feels welcoming and spacious.
We adore the village for its location and great facilities for visitors.
We love the secluded nature and the tranquillity it brings whilst being close to great pubs and restaurants.
Dale Cottage has a great sense of space both indoors and outdoors and never feels cramped even with 8 people (and sometimes more) staying.
There's something really special about sitting in the living room with a roaring fire, watching the wildlife in the garden and knowing that the beaches are all so close.
Dale Cottage is a deceptively spacious property along a quiet lane in Thornham. This was our second stay at this fantastic property which has undergone even further beneficial improvements since our first stay 2 years ago. It is perfect for our group of 8 + toddler. The owner was incredibly helpful and attentive in any communications we had about our stay. The large, enclosed and well maintained garden was enjoyed by all ages of our group - we even had an Easter egg hunt! We love Thornham for its accessible coastline, local wildlife including Titchwell RSPB reserve, country lanes suitable for family cycling, three great pubs all serving food, a handy deli and the kids' playground/tennis courts. Dale Cottage is the icing on the cake that makes our stay truly comfortable and relaxing.
Dale Cottage is a lovely house with room for everyone and a fantastic garden for the kids. Despite the miserable weather, we had a great time in Norfolk and Dave was very helpful throughout. Would definitely consider coming back
We were 4 adults a 5 year old and one at 15 months so the bedroom accommodation worked well. The 3 bathrooms meant we had easy pre bedtime bathing for the children in the super large new tub. Lots of hot water and a warm cosy house.
The beds were comfy and the kitchen well equipped. The safely enclosed rear garden made it relaxing letting the children play with excellent garden furniture for us to use.
Parking at the front was easy as was the 2 minute walk to either the Orange Tree or the Chequers pubs. We didn't get round to trying the Lifeboat but next time perhaps. Breakfast at Thornham Deli was amazing as were the fish & chips from Eric's at the Orchard Drove just up the road.
Too much to do locally for just a week's holiday.
We were delighted with Dale Cottage which is spacious, clean and well equipped in lovely gardens and located down a quiet lane off the coast road. The log burner made the cottage very cosy on the wet and windy days while the three bathrooms ensured no one was kept waiting for showers when we returned from invigorating walks along the nearby coastal path. The reed beds were beautiful when the sun shone through them and seeing large flocks of geese flying overhead in the late afternoon was memorable.
There’s a good choice of places to eat both in the village and nearby, and a deli down the road where you can buy local food (and drink!) and cook for yourselves.
Altogether, a super place to stay whatever your reasons for visiting North Norfolk.
Ideal cottage for our two families, we really enjoyed our ‘twixmas’ break with beach walks and log fires. Tastefully decorated (including the Christmas tree!) and contained everything we needed. Thank you!
I first visited North Norfolk in my late teens, a boy from the North discovering this very different world. It was love at first sight. Later marrying a Cambridge girl, and moving to Cambridge, we were able to enjoy many visits, and Thornham became a favourite, certainly in the Winter. We would walk on the salt marsh, as far as the beach, and then repair to the Lifeboat Inn for lunch, just bliss.
The front of Dale Cottage is built in the Norfolk vernacular, flint with red brick, an architecture which makes this stretch of coast particularly lovely. But behind the front door of this humble cottage is a modern built interior with every comfort one could need. The salt marsh is still bleak. To return to a home like this is just perfect after a day or hours outside, the log burning stove in Autumn or Winter, the delightful and private back garden in summer.
My weekend was my birthday celebration with my daughter's family, and so with two of our grandchildren. Dale cottage is very well equipped with toys to fascinate the young. They shared a charming children's bedroom upstairs.
From first booking we have had nothing but help and advice from the owner. He and the house get my personal imprimatur, without mental reservation as they say when swearing in the American President. Keep up the standard.
