About the property

La Realle Farmhouse - Countryside Location with panoramic views within Easy Reach of Local Towns, Markets and Family Lakes

La Realle is a traditional old stone farm house which retains many original features whilst also providing the modern comforts needed for a relaxing and enjoyable break. It is found near the small village of Levignac de Guyenne within easy distance of many small French towns with weekly markets, cafes and shops.

With its south-west facing solar heated private pool and 4 bathrooms the farm house provides spacious accommodation for friends and family holidaying together or for extended families; perhaps as grandparents, parents and grandchildren. With four bedrooms and also bath/shower rooms and sitting areas on both floors there can be a 'natural' split in the accommodation; providing spaces to come together and also privacy and quiet when needed (detail plans are in the photo gallery).

Using the downstairs only this property can also be an ideal holiday retreat for a couple, a reduction in price may be available for parties booking the ground floor only (no more than 3 guests).

At the front of the house the shaded veranda is ideal for relaxing with a book, a glass of wine or sleeping the day away. The veranda is used by most guests throughout the summer for alfresco dinning and leads onto a large shaded front lawn with flower beds and areas to sit and to play and barbecue.

Away from the veranda a spacious garden provides plenty of room to run off some energy, play a range of games including boules and enjoy the heated pool with panoramic views of the French countryside.

There is also an indoor games room including table tennis.

The potager garden has a bountiful supply of fresh produce including cherries, figs, local Marmande tomatoes and plums, when in season and dependent on the gardeners' skill!

The farmhouse is on the edge of the small bastide of Levignac de Guyenne which sits midway between the towns of Duras and Marmande. In the summer Levignac holds a Friday night market, which is not to be missed, with local farm produce, barbecues, dancing and entertainment. Levignac has a small shop, pharmacy, post office and traditional French baker. Guests have commented on the convenience of the local shop and excellent boulangerie at Levignac; you can buy croissants and warm bread for breakfast (10 minutes cycle ride/ 2 minutes in the car). The farmhouse is also within easy reach of several supermarkets.

The area is renowned for its wines and local produce which may be bought from the many traditional local markets. We are near to a number of local wine routes which lead you through the French countryside to sample wines at the local vineyards; some of which also hold an evening soiree; where you can taste both the wine and local farm produce.

Nearby Duras with its large medieval chateau and cobbled streets is a popular attraction; with a bustling market here on Mondays and a selection of pavement cafes and several restaurants and shops (5 mins drive).

August sees the annual Duras wine festival with tasting of wines from many of the local vineyards, medieval events and live music at the night markets.

Nearby Eymet, Miramont de Guyenne and Monsegeur also host both morning and evening markets.

This area is popular with hikers and cyclists with routes provided by local tourist offices. We provide 2 bikes for guests to use throughout their stay.

A local river provides canoeing for the more energetic whilst two lakes are within easy reach and are perfect for family days out. Some fun parks provide peddlos and include flumes and rides while some are more traditional with quiet shaded areas .

Local Sky walk parks, with various levels of difficulty, are popular with many guests for a fun day out whilst the larger towns of Bordeaux, Bergerac and Marmande are within easy reach and are worth a visit with a range of activities including markets, historical sites, boat trips and shopping.

There is also a range of golf courses in the area including Vigiers at Monestier (20mins drive) which has been highly rated by guests.

We offer differing rates for smaller parties and stays longer than 2 weeks so please ask us for details of your specific requirements.

About Rachel Clark

My husband and I bought La Realle after spending many happy holidays in and around this area of France enjoying the colourful evening markets; often with live music and exploring the many traditional villages.

The farmhouse has needed extensive renovation including a new roof, rebuilding of walls, wiring and a new pool; but we have also kept many features of the original building.

We live permanently at La Realle and will be on site but in a private area- in what was the wine Chai ; so we are on hand if needed (see reviews).

We are keen gardeners and have made extensive improvements to the grounds.

We hope you to will find La Realle a relaxing retreat. To talk with us and find out more use the Enquire Now button.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Just finished a fabulous week at La Realle… the farm house exceeded our expectations…the garden was ideal with shaded areas for hot afternoons…the beach at La Boison very good for small children being sandy and shallow. I am sure we will return.

Lovely rustic gite

  • 5 of 5

Very spacious and well equipped. Nothing too much trouble for the English owners, Rachel and Bev, who live on site. Good sized pool which was well maintained and very clean. Everything very clean including the barbecue (from previous experience this is quite unusual!). Made good use of the village boulangerie.

A gem of a holiday house

  • 5 of 5

Wow, what a house!

The house looks lovely on the website, there's already loads of 5 star reviews, so expectations were high. And the house lives up to the billing.

On arrival, there was a very warm welcome from Bev and Rachel. The house was absolutely spotless, meticulously clean, and absolutely everything is provided. The veg on the terrace table and cold drinks in the fridge were a lovely welcome!

The house itself is great. Rooms are big, beds comfortable, with loads and loads of space. The terrace area is fab, we had every meal on the terrace table which provided great shelter from the sun at lunch and a nice area to sit in the evenings.

The gardens are wonderful. Big, colourful, and loads of space for the kids to run around and explore. The fruit and veg which Rachel grows are fab, and it's so generous of them to allow free reign on harvesting; although there was so much even our greedy family of 4 kids failed to make inroads into the tomatoes and plums.

The highlight, though, was probably the pool. Bev worked tirelessly to keep the pool area spick and span, and it was immaculate. Always clean, always kept at a perfect temperature, and no chlorine. It was fab.

We were rather wary of gong to a house where the owners lived on site. However, it worked very well and was a positive thing; Bev And Rachel struck a great balance between helpfulness and being on hand with respecting our space and need to holiday in our own way. It was great to have them around to find out about the area etc

The surrounding area is beautiful, plenty for the kids to do; inflatable obstacle courses on the lake, high ropes, canoeing, markets, evening soirees etc etc The towns are very pretty, often with quite a number of tourists/expats so lots of buzzing evening markets and bars.

Thanks to Bev and Rachel for providing such a great holiday house!

Ideal Holiday Gite

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic week we had staying at La Realle! We were a party of 8 ranging from grandparents to grandchildren (aged 7 & 2). From the outset of selecting La Realle as our destination, the process of corresponding with Rachel and Bev was first class. Every question was answered promptly and the joining instructions were spot on.

On arrival, the property was absolutely spotless and ready for use. The layout of La Realle is everything it "said on the tin", spacious, well equipped and a beautifully restored. Bev and Rachel live next door which we found a distinct advantage as they were on hand to answer any queries we had and provide hint and tips about the local area. However, they were very discreet and were not intrusive any way.

For our party, much of the time was spent around the swimming pool that is extremely well maintained and was suitable for all ages. Some even enjoyed early morning swims when the water temperature was already 28 Deg C! thanks to solar heating and covering pool each night.

The property is very spacious, so you never felt that you were on top of each other, with everyone having the own ensuite facilities. The shady verandah was the focus in the evenings, being nice and cool just like the rest of the house and many a meal was enjoyed along with the local wine.

We also enjoyed the vegetables that Bev & Rachel had grown in the garden and told us that we could help ourselves. The large garden along with all the games equipment meant the children were never short of things to do.

Visits were made to Duras for food shopping ( the local supermarket providing everything you need) and the Tuesday market which is a must and even better when combined with lunch in one of the restaurants. The market at Eymet was also worth a visit.

Kayaking at Allemans sur Dropt. was very safe and easy paddling for all age. Even better with lunch in the village square afterwards.

Our week was rounded off by attending the evening food market in Levignac itself. This event is hugely popular with both locals and tourists alike, so get there early to grab your table! It has a great atmosphere and will not disappoint.

The holiday was enjoyed by everyone in our party and this was largely due the effort that Rachel and Bev put into making the stay so enjoyable by providing an impressive property, that is both spotless and very well equipped.

Thanks to Bev and Rachel

The property was beautiful: almost like a retreat.

  • 5 of 5

Rachel and Bev have done an amazing renovation job on this property and work hard to ensure that it is spotless.

The pool is spring water which was appreciated as chemicals aggravate my daughters skin.

We loved being able to pick fresh tomatoes and cucumbers each day.

Rachel and Bev were quick to respond to emails and to return our deposit.

Thank you to them both.

Lovely Farmhouse in a lovely area - Absolutely Spotless and well equipped with everything you need

  • 5 of 5

Booking was a pleasure with all correspondence dealt with quickly and efficiently. Any questions on the property were welcomed and helped our decision in making our booking and were informative in helping us to plan our holiday.

The extras on arrival were very much appreciated after the long drive down from North Essex and Bev and Rachel are very welcoming. La Realle is lovely old farm house that has been well renovated with the right mixture of old and new. It is well equipped with everything you need for your stay. The whole property is absolutely spotless and a credit to Bev and Rachel who are on hand should you need anything or any advice on the local area. That said although they are on-site you would hardly know they are there as they are very discreet.

There are lots of facilities on site such as table tennis, bikes, games and pool is the best we have had. The gardens are beautiful and lovingly maintained and the vegetables that are grown that you can help yourself to too are tasty, we can vouch for that! Dining Al Fresco watching the sunset is a must.

The local area is great to explore with old bastide towns and rolling countryside made up of vineyards, sunflowers and orchards. There are also activities with lakeside beaches and kayaking. There is even a local restaurant that is great for vegetarians, a rarity in France.

Thanks to Bev and Rachel

Beautiful house in stunning area

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a fabulous week at La Realle - the farmhouse really is beautiful, with the perfect blend of original features and modern facilities and a lovely well-maintained pool. The garden was stunning and we spent many hours reading in the shade of the trees or on the veranda. La Realle is in a great position to explore the areas around Bordeaux, Lot et Garonne and the Dordogne, amongst others, and we visited lots of pretty towns, villages and markets.
