Stone farmhouse near Condom, Gers, Midi-Pyrenees, France

Au Chicot is a charming old stone farmhouse which has retained its character features: high ceilings, fine exposed beams and stonework, solid wood floors, but has been modernised to provide plenty of light and space and all the facilities you would expect for quality holiday accommodation. A rare feature of the property is that almost all windows have extensive views. The interior is a blend of French country antique furniture and contemporary comfortable pieces. The ground floor has three sets of large French windows which ensure that the house gets the full benefit of the far reaching views over the countryside. Décor is light and neutral. The garden and pool are designed to maximise the benefit of the house’s countryside location.

Just a note to say thank you for letting us share your beautiful property, we had the most fantastic week at Le Chicot. We had sunshine, great views, the grape harvest, and an Armagnac tasting, not to mention a special wedding ! The house had absolutely everything we could have wanted, and your caretaker went out out of his way to be helpful; our baby grandaughter loved her high chair and had her first tentative dip in a swimming pool. Notes on accommodation: With two bedrooms on the ground floor enjoying en suite facilities, and a further two bedrooms and bathrooms on the second floor, the house is perfect for two families sharing. Our local managing team speak fluent French and English. Outside: The house has a swimming pool , 11 by 5 metres, heated to 27 degrees Celsius - with Roman steps and an electric safety cover conforming to French regulations. There are an outside table and chairs for 8 with parasol, plus an additional picnic table and benches. 2 Weber barbecues are available for use - one charcoal, one gas. The property has a large garden and meadow of 3 acres in all with fantastic views and plenty of space for children to explore. Gravel drive with parking for several cars. The terrace is adjacent to the house and in sight of the pool. There is a large open old restored wooden barn next to pool with an all weather table tennis table. Pool loungers and chairs with cushions are provided. Pool cleaning and maintenance is included in the rental. Outdoor equipment includes badminton, croquet and boules as well as tennis racquets. There is a small orchard to the front of the house. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble dryer, a large second fridge, iron, ironing board, vacuum cleaner, other cleaning equipment, containers for recycling. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are provided and changed weekly. Pool towels are also provided. The house is fully cleaned before and at the end of your stay. Other: The house has 2 wood burning stoves and electric central heating and ceiling fans in bedrooms 1,2 and 4, the kitchen and sitting room. There is a separate downstairs WC with a washbasin.

Peaceful, clean, lovely views, warm pool.

If you want peace and tranquillity this is the place to stay. With a 270 degree vista from the house and pool, overlooking a rolling landscape, with just the sun and the birds for company, it is ideal. There were only 2 of us; but the house has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, so there is plenty of space for more.

Lovely holiday villa

Super property with all you could need. Beautiful views, facilities great and overall footprint of property works very well for families with young children. Area is gastronomic delight with idyllic villages and brilliant restaurants/cafes/food.

Special interest holidays:

Walking - minor walking circuits of from 1 - 5 hours, marked and suiting all ages. Or sample a section of one of 4 Santiago de Compostela pilgrim routes passing through the Gers, including the closest to Au Chicot, Grande Route 65. A “voie verte” (the former railway line from Condom to Mouchan) offers good walking on the flat.

Lakes - for a range of water sports, including waterskiing, windsurfer hire, pedaloes. Many have sandy beaches and water chutes - the nearest are at Castera-Verduzan, Gondrin, Montreal, Lupiac, Lectoure, (the 'Lac des Trois Vallees', which also offers mini-golf) and St Clar, south-east of Lectoure. For fishing, lists of sites, plus daily/weekly permits available from tourist offices;

Rivers - the River Baise, eg, for fishing, boat trips/hire (license not necessary) from Condom, and from Nerac, a lovely town just over the border in Lot-et-Garonne; canoe hire from Beaucaire, near Valence-sur-Baise


Atlantic coast - Mimizan Plage (2 hrs) with long, sandy beaches, is the nearest; Biarritz (2 hrs), and Hendaye (2hrs 40 mins), both have good surfing beaches. St Jean de Luz (2 ½ hrs) is a pretty port; Arcachon (2 ½ hrs), has its huge sand dunes and a vibrant town

There is a village bread shop/small store at Mouchan by car 5 mins.

A welcome pack of bread, coffee, tea, milk, butter, cheese and jam and bottle of wine is provided on arrival.

The kitchen has an honesty cupboard where food essentials, spices and the like are available.
