Farmhouse in hillside above Harlech, Snowdonia National Park, North Wales - Peaceful Rural Location Close To The Coast

Tyddyn-y-Felin is situated in the Snowdonia National Park with many attractions amongst the wild Rhinog Mountain ranges and many lakes in the area. Covering over 823 square miles of diverse landscapes, Snowdonia National Park has something for everyone including Ramblers, Cyclists (cycle path on the doorstep), Wildlife enthusiasts, Bird Watchers, Artists, Photographers, fishing, canoeists and climbers. Wild goats can be seen in the garden of the property frequently, much to the plants/trees’ disappointment! and buzzards are seen often. Star Gazers will be amazed at the bright sky at night, no smog here! The coast and all its coastal walks are very close by. Comfortable accommodation for two to seven people, prices on request. Groups of 6 max. welcome. Unfortunately, the house is not suitable for people with walking difficulties i.e. steep path and steps. Sorry No smoking in property.

I have lived here for fifty years and seen many changes!

Four generations of the family have lived here and I am still passionate about the place and would like to share it with you .

I have a pet dog called Roxy and two cats called Wilma and Tomos and plenty of wildlife!

I have a good knowledge of the area and Wales in general and will help with any information for you to enjoy your holiday as much as possible.

Why Heulwen Hall chose Gwynedd - Snowdonia

I was born here with my brother and sister on a working farm. The house was handed down to the next generation.

I moved to Manchester for a short period of time in my life but missed this place and its tranquility so much and came home once more. I like to get away from the crowds and traffic.

There is nowhere like it really for me as it has everything i.e. mountains, lakes and a beautiful coastline within 1.5 to 2 miles.

A lot of the land is now sold on to other people but the farm animals are still around the house and fields.

If you love outdoor life, this is the place for you.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The parking is near the pond and is free.

There is a bench here to sit to watch the fish jumping or watch the birds catch insects and sometimes a Heron fishing. Children can bring their nets and catch tadpoles at certain times of the year or fish for crabs at nearby beaches and seaside towns.

We do have Wi-Fi access but hopefully some nice weather will get you out there!

There is a lake for canoeing down the lane but you must have third party insurance and is entirely at your own risk.

Notes on accommodation: This cosy and comfortable retreat is traditionally decorated and furnished and provides well equipped accommodation including four bedrooms; sitting room with seating for 7 max., electric flame effect heater, electric panel heaters throughout the house. Four bedrooms, dining room/kitchen. Garden/patio in front of the property and a spacious pleasant garden with furniture to the side. A lovely pond for your use with superb views of the Rhinog mountain range. Located in the mountains just two miles from the beaches at Llandanwg or Harlech. The Farmhouse is a great base from which to discover all that Snowdonia has to offer and ideally located for taking a day trip to the top of "Yr Wyddfa" (Snowdon) or Cader Idris or Y Cnicht for a quieter experience. £25 deposit on arrival to be returned on departure if everything in order. Electricity is extra by meter reading and to be paid in cash on morning of departure. Please bring travel cot for babies Please bring bedding for your dog Outside: One terraced garden in front of the property with patio. One large garden with furniture for sole use to the side of the property. Shared clothes line in back garden. Pond and parking 50yds, shared. Utility Room: all in kitchen Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels included on arrival for number of people renting. Property cleaned on arrival and departure days only.

Character property in beautiful, tranquil location with friendly owner

As a gay couple with a boisterous Labrador, we worry about finding accepting accommodation. We had no need to worry here. The owner is very welcoming, from giving us tips on best things to see in the area (the Roman Steps walk from Llyn Cwm Bychan was stunning) to providing a dedicated towel for our dog (much needed with use of her pond for doggy swims).

This property is full of character, furnished with items from 4 generations of the owner's family. We love to cook so were pleased to find a fully kitted out kitchen. Every room was clean and comfortable.

Whilst we used the property as a base to travel around Snowdonia (we hiked up Snowdon, travelled on the Ffestiniog railway from Porthmadog and rode Europe's fastest zip wire at Bethesda), we also took advantage of the gorgeous countryside walks surrounding the property. Had we stayed longer, we would certainly have done more of those.

One of our reasons for staying in Harlech was the beaches so near along the coast. Harlech beach is vast with plenty of dog-permitted space.

The only thing that we weren't prepared for was all the steep, narrow roads around the property. The owner sent us excellent directions beforehand that took us on the best roads, but if you're coming up from Harlech Castle be prepared for a lot of single-track driving in 1st gear. Don't follow the sat-nav blindly from the Llanfair direction as you may find yourself on even narrower roads with gates to open and close on the way. Keep the directions you're given in the car so you can find your way back the right way!

Come the end of our stay in this property we were sad to leave. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to come back again, maybe with more family/friends to take advantage of the large house and to share the experience with others.

10 - 15 minutes by car to a beach with cafe/shop,parking and plenty of rock pools or there are plenty of others to choose from with ten miles of golden sand!

You can also go across the water via a bridge to Porthmadog and the coves of the Lleyn Peninsula.


Directions by Car

From the South - when you get to the village of Llanbedr - turn right at the Victoria Hotel and continue approx. 1 mile up the road where the valley splits in two. Do not turn off here, continue straight on until you get to a T-Junction.

Take the left turn sign posted Harlech and continue for approx 1 mile. You will see a farm called Tyddyn Rhyddid on your right.

Continue up the road until you see a cottage on your right called Bryn Gwyn. Turn right here and go through the iron gate which is normally open with a plaque for Tyddyn-y-Felin.

Continue down this road and park by the pond with a private parking sign and walk down the path.

Further Details:

There are two grocery shops in Harlech one in the town centre and one on the beach road which is open until 10p.m. There is also one in Dyffryn Ardudwy.

Large shops are in Porthmadog- 8 miles Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, Wilkinson and Co-op and Iceland in Barmouth - 8 miles

More banks open in Barmouth and Porthmadog.
