Villa Near Lagrasse With Large Pool And Tennis Court

Updated: 11-Oct-2016
Villa near Lagrasse, Aude, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - Tranquil Setting In 22 Acres, Close To River Swimming, Mediterranean Beaches And The Pyrenees

Whether it's the aromatic air, the incredible views or the tranquility, 4 Vents is where you can truly relax. Set in 22 acres of private grounds there is a wonderful feeling of space and getting back to nature. The house is open-plan and simply furnished in a contemporary style with all mod cons and wooden flooring throughout with tiles in the kitchen. There are six bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms with one ensuite shared between two bedrooms making the perfect family annex. It is particularly well kitted out for children with many accessories, such as bedding to high chairs, plus a TV room/children's room for a bit of peace and quiet! There is a huge, 22 metre swimming pool with a contemporary summer kitchen, gas BBQ and dining area. Adjacent to this is the tennis court and nearby is the river, woods and ponds so there is lots to explore. Up by the house, the central courtyard has a table tennis table for extra fun. In the garden, you can help yourself to herbs. In the evenings all you will hear are the sound of the crickets and the frogs under bright, starry skies. Oh and remember to watch out for the wild boar! Its location in the Aude and near to the Pyrenees means that the house is a great base for road and mountain bikers. River and lake swimming is an absolute must. Or you can visit one of the many Mediterranean beaches.

About the Owner

We are a family who adore Les 4 Vents. It is literally our home from home. Our daughter loves it because she can run feral due to the space and the freedom. She gardens, builds dens, swims in the river or pool. She plays with the local kids and is even learning some French. My husband and I love it because we switch into such a relaxed mode. The open-nature of the house means it is easy to entertain and to have kids running everywhere. The grounds mean you never feel on top of other people. Somehow the atmosphere makes you chill...

Needs to be better managed

  • 2 of 5

We stayed at this villa for 2 weeks for a large family reunion. Not suited if very young children or elderly & struggle get around to the point we cut our holiday short. House has huge potential but overall we were very disappointed for the following reasons:

Good bits:-

Large grounds with stunning setting

All bedrooms a good size

Owners did fix pool when leaked quickly

Great chef can arrange called Sam

The bad bits:-

Living area too small if 8+ guests like us. Open plan & lounge part only got seating for c 6-7. Indoor table only has benches

Standard of cleaning & maintaince poor eg showers not functioning properly due to lime scale build up. Inside of drawers in bedroom filthy and had to clean sink before washing up on first day! We even had to descale the kettle.

Pool long way from house, down many uneven steps. No shade around pool apart from on steep incline under pine trees. Hence no real garden area can sit in if got young children in shade.

House very hot, problem no aircon. Had to have fan permantly on baby.

Poorly managed. Local manager appeared stretched & chaotic, eg even though very hot day when arrived didn't tell us fans in basement. Took best part of month and several chasers to get deposit back.

Owner's Response: We have lived, owned and rented 4 Vents for 13 years and this is the first poor review we have ever had. While this was a very hot summer, we have had hot summers before and have never felt it necessary to install aircon. We have always deemed fans to be sufficient for the climate, more healthy for the individual and more environmentally friendly. Each bedroom comes equipped with a fan and all were in situ. The fact that aircon was not installed was mentioned in conversations with the family when they were booking. However, given the feedback putting some form of air cooling system into the bedrooms is something that we may consider. It is our understanding from the father that it was the heat impact on their four week old baby not the house per se that was the cause of the one family going home early; the rest continued with their holiday. My 83 year old mother has no problem with enjoying her holidays at 4Vents and we have plenty of guests who have holidayed with youngsters. The open-plan living space is approx 70 square metres so sizeable and there are lots of outside seating, eating and drinking areas all with umbrellas for shade. We can certainly look at adding another couple of chairs into the sitting-room area but normally people use the outside rather than the inside space in the summer. The pool is a short, idyllic walk from the house (c100m) through pine trees and many of our guests like this because it is safer for children when playing and the pool is situated in natural surroundings. There is natural shade around two sides of the pool and we provide 4 large umbrellas. At present we are planning to replace some of the umbrellas at the pool with sails - over the summer kitchen and dining areas. It is true the house manager was over-stretched this year so we are going to put in a bigger team to manage the place next year with a "head-cleaner" to ensure that cleaning is double-checked. Our terms and conditions state that we have two weeks to pay the security deposit back and we paid it within this time-frame not a month. 4Vents is a large, beautiful, natural place with amazing views, a river and a huge 22 metre pool so works for people who like lots of space to enjoy their holiday. Each year we invest in the property and are continually upgrading its facilities. We are sorry it was not right for this family but it has proved to be an excellent holiday choice for many others.

First class house,fabulous pool

  • 5 of 5

The house sits atop a hill with great views and a number of seating areas outside. The facilities inside are excellent with ensuites to all bedrooms, a large kitchen-diner and utility room.We had Sam prepare a meal for us one evening which was first class and enjoyed by both children and adults, definitely recommended.

The main attraction however is the enormous pool,we have been renting properties in France for more than 20 years and this is by far the largest and with the summer kitchen ,the best appointed we have encountered.

All in all thoroughly recommended.

Idyllic country setting with all the mod-cons

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Quatre Vents with a large group of our university friends, and I would really recommend it. The open-plan living area and outdoor seating areas made for social cooking, sun-downers and meals. The house is modern, well-equipped and spacious, with a stunning pool, tennis court and miles of land all around. It is positioned on the top of a hill and the surrounding views are gorgeous. There really is no need to go anywhere, but we took our kids swimming in the river at Lagrasse, and there was a brilliant inflatable attraction at the lake outside Carcassonne which everyone loved. The village of Lagrasse is charming and well worth a visit.

Beautiful house in an idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic break at this beautiful house. A perfect balance of comfort and contemporary style, the house has everything you need for a truly relaxing holiday. The huge pool is just as stunning as the house, with its fabulous outdoor kitchen and terrace. Idyllic setting too - perched on a hill with amazing views in every direction. We'll be back!

Stunning property!

  • 5 of 5

Had a well-earned girls' holiday here and loved it. The house is beautiful and very comfortable. We had some great evenings down at the huge pool area - perfect for drinks and meals under the stars. Took a trip into Lagrasse which is very picturesque with great restaurants and a lovely abbey. Can't recommend this property highly enough.

A very special place

  • 5 of 5

4 Vents lived up to all our expectations and was an incredible place to celebrate my husband's birthday. On arrival we had a warm welcome from Carlos. The space and facilities in the house were ideal for our large group aged 16 months to 70. The amazing pool, grounds and river make this a very special place and one you will wish to return to.

Owner's Response: So glad to hear that your birthday celebration was a success at 4 Vents. Celebrations of all kinds work at our house because you are spoilt for choice in terms of space. You can choose to hold the party up by the house with its spacious open-plan lay-out and outside decks or down by the pool where there is a summer kitchen with cooking facilities and amazing lighting for night-time. Either way one thing you can be sure of, you won't be bothering the neighbours!

From the Owner

We were on holiday in the Corbieres and chanced upon les 4 Vents by accident. It was love at first sight. The views, space and tranquil atmosphere literally blew us away. However, vision goggles were required because the house was in disrepair and the forest was totally over-grown. So we came back from holiday with a house. As my mother said, "most people come back with a few bottles of wine but you..." Anyway it is a labour of love as we gradually restore the estate. It is a place where you can think and truly relax. A great antidote to busy lives. We look forward to welcoming you there.

From the Owner

The Corbieres is a fascinating place. You never know what is going to happen next. Someone, somewhere is planning a cultural event. For example it might be guest dancers from the Royal Ballet performing in the grounds of our local abbey in Lagrasse OR conservatoire trained pianists playing in a medieval abbey OR it may be a bunch of people jamming outside just because the sun is shining. It is also an area of artisans so you can find really innovative products, art and organic food. Or just enjoy the nature - river swimming and swimming holes in the hills with natural waterfalls abound. And of course don't forget the wine ( we don't!).
