About Mrs I Wood

We started coming to this area by means of renting a friends house to get away from our busy working lives. We liked this area and could travel from our house in sussex to Hesdin in 3 hours so it became a regular trip.

when some 5 years later my husband was offered early retirement we decided to take a chance and buy a property here.

we enjoy the all the area has to offer and family, friends and grandchildren visit often.

Mrs I Wood purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Mrs I Wood chose Montreuil area

when my husband was offered early retirement we decided to move to this area from sussex.

we spent 6 months renovating the cottage, taking all the bits from friends gites we liked and tryed to put them into our own.

Some 6 years later we are still enjoying and looking forward to our guests arriving.

Many now return again and again.

What makes this cottage unique

the cottage offers all things to all sorts of people.we enjoy meeting people and feel in a small way that for what ever reason they come to visit be it a first holiday for a small family,a special birthday or anniversary or just to get away from the stress of busy working lives that our guests have a good holiday and for a week they can relax and enjoy their stay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A little piece of quiet tranquility

  • 5 of 5

Just arrived home from 4 lovely nights stay and oh do i wish i was back there now, what a lovely peaceful retreat, and what charming people Irene & Norman are, not forgetting charlie the dog, who i could have brought home with me. Delightful little cottage and as cleaner place as i have ever seen, plus with all the mod cons you need. Easy reach of all the coastal towns of the somme estuary, and close for all the WW1 sites. I will return and will be recommending this to all my friends. Thank you for making us so welcome.

Lovely cottage, lovely owners

  • 5 of 5

After going here for our honeymoon last year, we decided to return this year but for a fortnight this time. And it still wasn't long enough!! We were there for our first wedding anniversary, and on the recommendation of Irene and Norman we went to Monet's house and gardens. They even very helpfully booked our tickets for us on their computer. We explored all round and found some more favourite places especially St Valery sur Somme, which is beautiful and in very easy reach. This beautiful cottage is in an ideal location. There are lovely restaurants in nearby Hesdin but then again the kitchen is so well equipped we didn't eat out much.

The BEST place to go to to enjoy France!

Thank you again Irene and Norman we hope to return again!!

Lots of love, Claire and Kessie

Everything anyone could possibly need.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect, beautifully and comfortably furnished with guests every possible need catered for plus being spotlessly clean. We thought we would spend most of our time in Montreuil but there was so much to do in the vincinity that we had no need to go far. The Abbey Gardens are not to be missed. Unfortunately my husband had a fall which meant going to A and E our hosts Norman and Irene were amazingly helpful with Norman driving us to hospital and sitting ffom 10pm till 5.30am on a hard chair in A and E incase we couldn't get a taxi back or it cost a lot! All was well. Thank you we will return and recommend to all our friends- what a find!

Beautiful and peaceful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We came here for our honeymoon last August and it was so lovely we booked it for a fortnight this summer for our first wedding anniversary! Irene and Norman were superb hosts and very helpful and friendly - from telling us about the live action Les Mis to the magnificent pain frites on Berck beach. We are very much looking forward to returning again and again, best holiday ever!

lovely cottage close to the WW1 sites

  • 4 of 5

We spent a week at Primrose cottage in early April. The location is great, close to Hesdin for groceries and supplies but far enough away to get that "in the country" feel. Tortefontaine is very small just a few homes and a church but really pretty. It was well located for seeing the Canadian WW1 sites, Claude Monets home and the coast south of Calais. The cottage is well appointed and the kitchen worked well for making meals in the evening although it would have been nice to have a few more staples (oil and vinegar spices etc) in the cupboards. The bed was very comfortable, the shower worked perfectly and everything was immaculately clean. Our only problem was that the WIFI did not work inside the cottage and there is very limited cell coverage there. Other than that everything was perfect. We would definitely visit again
