About the Owner

Will and I live in Wigan (North West of England) and both work full time. We have been married for just 13 years and we have 2 dogs Mindy and Tasha who are an important part of our family life.

We love the outdoor life and we visit our holiday home as often as we can, along with family and friends. We do plenty of walking cycling, sight seeing and dining out with friends whilst we are there.

Had a wonderful relaxing break at La Vielle Boulangerie. It was Early October and the weather was still lovely and sunny and we often dined outside on the patio where the view over the valley is fantastic. The village is lovely and peaceful and the locals are friendly. Lake Ruffiac is close by which was a great place to walk and explore.

The house itself was home from home, very clean and traditional in style but with all mod cons and the bed was really comfy. We also lit the log burner a few times which was really atmospheric and cosy. All in all we had a wonderful, relaxing break and I would definitely go back. H and D Oct 13

Booked this villa at quite short notice and the owner was very accommodating and pleased to help - a real bonus! The villa is well appointed and we had lots of space. Lots of interesting days out D July 13

A Spacious French house in a typical French working village

  • 4 of 5

This house is very comfortable and well equipped. We enjoyed eating out on the elevated terrace overlooking the countryside. The house is spacious inside and well furnished and comfortable. There were bicycles available which we did use. The village has all the basic amenities , boulangerie , post office , bank , bar , restaurant at the hotel which were very close and a supermarket within a mile . We spent time at the Lake Rouffiac which has wonderful amenities , a sandy beach with safe bathing , water sports and 'go ape' type facilities. This is only 10 minutes away. We also went to the races at Pompadour.

Beautiful and relaxed home

  • 4 of 5

We loved our holiday at this property.

Family holiday with 3 generations staying and the house worked perfectly for all.

Gorgeous large windows giving perfect views, fabulous terrace from the kitchen overlooking the garden and countryside, using the 'awesome awning' as it was named to save us from the very hot sun!

So much to see in the surrounding area, chateau hautefort, the forge, village medieval and lake ruffiac being highlights. The town of Payzac is a perfect location, two fabulous bakeries for very yummy breakfasts!

The house was clean and well furnished, had all the amenities you need for a self catering holiday. Use of the owners bikes was an added bonus.

Only small negative was the occasional noise from the road.. Most of the time the road is very quiet and peaceful but every now and then large trucks roll past!! But it did not distract from the overall peaceful location.

Myself and family would all highly recommend staying here, we had one of the best and most relaxing holidays ever.

From the Owner

We chose our holiday home in the Dordogne because of its stunning unspoilt scenery. When we first walked into the house we felt at home and there was no going back once we saw the view from the patio. The home is in a quiet, friendly and traditional village (Payzac), it has the best of both worlds - close to all amenities (fresh croissants in the morning), but it is also secluded as it is not overlooked at the rear. We're still finding new places to visit and we always come back re energised and looking forward to our next trip. Whilst on holiday an elderly French gentleman asked if he could look over our home as during the war he had been evacuated there from Paris, this experience was very special for all of us, and we now know of other residents happy memories spent in the house.

Activity and Interests

Lake Rouffiac is just 6km from the house (5 minutes by car, 10 minutes on a bike) and has a beach with loungers / pedalos and teleski water sports (during the summer). There is also a café for drinks / light meals and the facilities are ideal for couples and families alike.

The nearest airports are Limoges (one hour drive) and Bergerac (90 minutes drive). Ryan Air and Flybe fly to both destinations from many airports in the UK. Cityjet flies from London City to Brive just 30 minustes drive from Payzac.

If flying car hire is essential.

Driving from the UK to Calais is just 7 hours drive away and from Zeebrugge it is 9 hours drive.

Hautefort Chateau is 16km away; Segur le Chatueau is just 10km away (with farmers market every Monday evening during July and August

The medieval city of Perigueux is just 50mins drive away, and this offers shopping, dining and sightseeing.

Sarlat, Domme, Beynac on the Dordogne river are 80 minutes away by car.

The beautiful village of Brantome is just 40 minutes away and boating, canoing are just some of the attractions.

Farmers market at Objat on Sunday is just 30 minutes away.

Further Details:

There are 2 boulangeries, butchers, bank, post office, pharmacist and supermarket in the village. A larger supermarket at Glandon is 15 minutes away.

There is a restaurant in the Hotel Voyager, located in Payzac and other restaurants close (less than 10 miles) include Savignac Ledrier, Pompadour, Genis, Exideul to name but a few. Local delicacies include fois gras, confit de canard and if you like a desert - ask for a Café Gourmand - normally 3 mini deserts and a shot of espresso - yummy!

We have 4 bikes that guests can use and these are located in the cellar.

From the Owner

Our holiday home is spacious and is ideal for families of all sizes from couples through to guests booking with friends. It is in an ideal location for all the tourist attractions that the Dordogne has to offer. Guests can use our bikes in the cellar - womans Speicalize, mans Boardman, an hybrid marin and a racing bike. The area is ideal for cycling as you're not far from quiet country roads where you very often don't meet any cars (maybe a tractor though). Many of our guests have been overwhelmed with balmy evenings on the terrace, lost in their thoughts, with the brightness of the stars, and swallows swooping in the valley, late at night. If you decide to book our home we hope you also have a wonderful time exploring the wonderful delights that the Dordogne has to offer.
