House, Apartment & Cottage in Llandrillo, Nr Bala Wales Peaceful And Private, Perfect For Families, Parties, Holidays Or Occasion

All the holiday houses at Crogen are characterful properties with either open fires or wood-burners - or both! They are quintessentially Welsh, with thick grey stone walls and Welsh slate roofs.

The Coach House has been lovingly and tastefully renovated by the current owners. Downstairs it boasts large rooms, all of which have patio doors opening onto a sheltered South facing verandah and beautifully maintained walled garden. The kitchen has as 4-door Aga and wood burning stove, with sofa area, and the pine kitchen table seats 17 people. Being 28'x18' in size, this spacious yet cosy kitchen becomes the hub of the house and those on "cooking duties" will always feel included. For those in the party who prefer to "sit soft" the large sitting room is extremely comfortable with open fire. For more formal dinners, there is an elegant dining room next the the kitchen. also with open fire. All wood is provided free of charge.

Upstairs all 8 bedrooms (except for one small room) are spacious and airy, some of which have washbasins in the rooms themselves. Mattresses and bedding are all of top quality and have been much commented on by our guests. There is a single room on the ground floor with washbasin and WC next door.

The Coach House is fuelled by Biomass heating, and is toasty ward at all times, causing our guests in mid winter to wander round in t-shirts! All say it is a wonderful bonus and great welcome to be greeted into the house with such warmth and comfort.

Outside, beyond the walled garden, there is a well maintained tennis court for use, by arrangement, by our guests. The rive Dee flows 200yards from the house and makes for gentle riverside strolls., and fishing, by arrangement. Should our guests like a bit of expert instruction, a local ghillie can be hired. Guests can enjoy the 2,500 acres in which Crogen Estate sits ( though please, dogs on leads at all times when walking through fields).

Crogen Wing is part of Crogen Hall itself but has its own entrance, and has recently been refurbished to a high standard; upstairs comprises a spacious, elegant twin with ensuite bath/shower room, and a double with large ensuite bath/shower room. Also on the first floor is a sitting room with wood burning stove. The Wing is furnished with a tasteful blend of antiques and more contemporary pieces, and the walls are adorned with art much of which has been painted by a family member who was a professional artist.

Downstairs is a stylish farmhouse kitchen with 2-door Aga, and which opens out onto an attractive cobbled courtyard. This gets plenty of sunshine and there is a table and chairs on which to enjoy a cup of coffee and lap up the outdoors. Also for exclusive use of our guests is a very large area of garden (with furniture) to the East of the house, this gets the sun well into the early evening and is a lovely place to relax and soak up the stunning views and manicured lawns. The River Dee flows just metres beyond the cobbled yard, and we offer our guests in the Wing use of a sitting area set above the river bank, an ideal spot for taking an evening drink and watching the sun sink behind the mountains.

The Wing is also fuelled with Biomass heating, and as with the Coach House, our guests are extremely appreciative of the "wall to wall" warmth.

Guests of the Wing may also fish and have use of the tennis court by arrangement

The cottage, Bryn Awel, is known as the "honeymoon house" as it sleeps 2 only. It sits above the river Dee and has commanding and beautiful views across the whole valley. Downstairs comprises a cosy, well furnished sitting room with dining area, and is dominated by a large inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove. All wood, including kindling is provided for our guests. Also on the ground floor is a kitchen and a shower room with wash basin and WC.

The upstairs of the cottage is taken up entirely by the cosy bedroom with 6ft bed. Mattress and bed linens are of a high quality and bathrobes are also provided.

The garden is well maintained, and our guests can enjoy the use of the garden furniture on which to relax and bask in the beautiful views.

Day trips to the coast, Bala, Snowdonia, National Trust properties, Portmeirion, Chester and Welsh Castles are a must! Use of the tennis court (in a walled garden) can be arranged with the owners, as can fishing on the Dee; there is an adventure activity centre on the estate with high ropes, paint-balling and much, much more. Dogs are allowed with prior notice to the Coach House and Bryn Awel only.

About the Owner

Henry & Sarah Robertson, with their family, have made Crogen work both as a home and a business. They rent out properties within the grounds for holidays, parties, events and weddings. They have lived at Crogen for 22 years, and the Robertson family have lived in the area for over 150 years. They are passionate about the great outdoors, dogs and making guests feel completely at home. They hugely enjoy sharing Crogen and all it has to offer.

On driving to the Crogen Estate, the wife was having doubts whether we had made the right decision on making this booking. Those doubts were soon unfounded as on our arrival to the estate, we couldn't comprehend how big the grounds were and how well the estate was maintained. The grounds are immaculate with enjoyable walks by the river. The location of the estate is ideal to explore all of North Wales especially Snowdonia and there are numerous activities locally which will test the most hardened adventurer. Our hosts Henry and Sarah were fantastic and we all enjoyed the company of their delightful pets. This was such a lovely place to stay, we're going back.

From the Owner

Family owned property, which has been lived in by the Robertsons (on and off) since 1860. We ourselves returned to North Wales with our young family in 1993, and when we moved into Crogen Hall in 2004, embarked on the holiday business, as we realised we had so much to offer. Having brought yup our own family in the Coach House, we've had first hand experience of what a treaty place it is for large family groups. The walled garden is entirely safe for small children, and for the bigger ones, there is plenty of space in which to run around. With so much to do on the doorstep it makes an ideal place to spend a holiday. Crogen Wing we refurbished in 2010, and this has appealed to people of all ages. Young families have enjoyed the "hubble bubble" of Crogen life, and haven annoyed helping to feed the hens, pick vegetables and join in with the Robertson family life. Some of our guests, prefer to be completely private, and the Wing lends itself perfectly to that too, with me meeting the guests on arrival and not seeing them till they say goodbye at the end of their visit. The Wing manages to be so flexible and fits with whatever our guests choose to do. Bryn Awel is just the perfect romantic get-away with all the charm and that any cottage could have.

From the Owner

Amazing surroundings, from mountains to moorland, river and woodland. A great sense of history as Queen Victoria visited during her reign and was a guest of the Robertsons for 3 weeks - and memorabilia still exists. The family has an appreciation of modern environmental living and have worked hard at installing biomass heating and hydro schemes. Great for all ages. Love all sports - tennis, kayaking, mountain biking, swimming, sailing, football - anything outdoors.

All properties have access to the grounds and the tennis court at Crogen and the River (by prior agreement). Please be aware that, as the owners live in the Hall full time, they reserve some areas of the garden for private use.
