About the Owner

Jenny and I live on-site in what was the farm house. The cottages are converted farm buildings. We are both retired Jenny worked for the local council, Richard was an IT project manager.

As well as helping supplement our income, having guests in the cottages helps us retain our enjoyment of the area, seeing the countryside and area again through their eyes. We take a pride in making sure guests enjoy their stay and will happily help whenever we can. Just let us know. We value guest's right to privacy so will only assist when asked, if not we are equally happy to leave guests to themselves.

Great get away

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful getaway in the hills of Wales just outside of Llangollen. The cabin over looks some gorgeous fields. The Llangollen Railway is at the bottom of the field and will stop to pick you up if you hold your hand out and get you to town and back if you make arrangements at the station. I had a few people over one afternoon for a meal and Richard was quick to help with a picnic table for our group. This place had everything that I needed for my week long stay. Thanks for everything Richard.

Location

From the Owner

This is one of the beautiful parts of the UK, the views from both our house and the cottages are stunning. Whilst we are definitely in a rural area, however, we are not so rural you can't easily get to the shops and pubs. We love living here, the peace and quiet are addictive and our guests feel the same way, many returning year after year. We even have a the steam line running at the bottom of the fields, easily seen from the cottages. Walk along the path to Dee Side Halt and you can catch the train into Llangollen or up to Carrog, or up to Corwen. For the more active there's canoeing, climbing, abseiling, horse riding, fishing and quite a lot more. We provide all heating, hot water, bed linen with quality duvets, and towels. We can also provide a baby's high chair and cot, although please bring cot linen, there is no additional charge for the travel cot or high chair. Guests staying for a week or more will receive a welcome basket which contains: a loaf, (usually brown), fruit juice, 2 pints of semi skimmed milk, some eggs from our own chickens and some sort of "treat". In addition, we provide a choice of cereal (quality muesli usually), or the meat option of sausage and bacon. Just let us know your choices when booking if you wish to change any of the usual items. We also supply some household necessities, such as dishwasher tablets, bin bags, tea towels, dishcloths, tea, coffee and sugar, as well as trying to ensure the usual condiments are in the cupboards. The cottage kitchens are fully equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, independent central heating pots and pans, plates and cutlery for six wine, beer and whisky glasses, a vegetable steamer, coffee peculator and more. The lounges are comfortable for 4 adults, colour wide screen TV with surround sound DVD players. Each cottage has complimentary WiFi and super king size beds (can be divided into twins on three of the cottages' bedrooms).

Facilities

From the Owner

The cottages are in a wonderful setting, each has similar facilities, although Wagtails in on three levels so is not suited to less mobile guests. The barns from which they were converted were, in all probability they were the original farm dwelling. Wagtails has some amazing "A" framed beams rising up into the apex ceilings. You can lie in bed in Wagtails and marvel at the old beams, sculpted from ancient trees. or watch the stars though the skylight. Swallows has the decking from which you can survey the views. The scenery is amazing, as is the surrounding countryside. Walks around here are little frequented, many have astounding vistas from the tops, or magical woodlands to explore. In addition to the opportunity to wander in isolation, there are lots of organisations and facilities to enable you to take part in a more organised activity. You can "Bounce Below" (Google it), or paddle along in a raft or canoe. Take your bike on trails through woodland and moors, or meander along quiet side valley roads. For those who just want to watch and wonder, there are so many opportunities too, take the mountain railway up Snowdon, sit on a bench by the river, savour food from one of the many places to eat around here. Take a trip in a horse drawn canal boat, or put your feet up and watch the scenery from the steam railway.
