About the Owner

English emigre to Finistere since 1996. I moved mainly for the swimming, as the sea here though cold, is fantastically clear and invigorating. Plougasnou beach is for me the very best place to swim and I have tried a few other places around the world.

Easter Break at Kerguelen

  • 5 of 5

A marvellous break at a lovingly maintained property with a superb kitchen and great big garden. Even better was the total lack of TV or DVDs which allowed us to concentrate more fully on the beautiful coastline (a short walk away) and local places of interest. The property was all that we could have wanted and the owner was friendly and unobtrusive - the house would be even better in the summer, when you could make proper use of the garden.

All in all, an absolute gem.

Owner's Response: Thanks for you super review of Kerguelen. So glad you had a nice relaxing time. Spring is indeed a beautiful time to visit Brittany but you do have to dodge the weather a bit. All the best Philip

Perfect family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Kerguelen is a wonderful place to stay for that perfect family holiday! The house is very well equipped and the spacious garden is great for children. There are beautiful beaches and cliff walks, pretty fishing villages and great cycling all on the doorstep

and the lovely town of Plougasnou has excellent traditional shops, bars and restaurants. In fact, everything you need for a relaxing break especially when the sun shines as it did for us!

Great house, great location!

  • 5 of 5

The house was fabulous, just what we needed for a break with extended family. The house was lovely and clean with lots of rustic charm. The kitchen was where we spent most of the time chatting and drinking wine as cooked and ate. The kids loved the huge garden too!

Lovely beaches in the area, we visited quite a few despite the weather. We also visited a couple of relatively local swimming pools in Lannion and St Pol De Leon.

The market in Plougasnou on a Tuesday morning is great for local produce, definitely worth a visit.

Great House

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the house, the sea, Finistère, even the weather was very nice, we thought. There were days we sat in the garden reading in the sun without any coats on. I'd say that's nice enough for this time of the year. We even went for a new years swim at Vilin Izella beach! I hope we didn't leave the house too messy. With the weather and all the kids running in and out of the house, it was hard to keep it decent. It truly is a great house in a great spot. We had no idea where we would end up exactly, as it was the first time in Bretagne for all of us, but it is definitely a place to come back to. Quotes

Owner's Response: I'm so glad, and I thought you had such terrible weather that week, I certainly got very fed up with the seeming constant downpours.

This cottage was perfect for our holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely unforgettable Golden Wedding celebration here with our family from the UK and Canada.

Everything we needed was available. There was a large well equipped kitchen and the sleeping and bathroom arrangements were more than adequate. The children loved the large garden.

The nearest beache Primel Plage has beautiful clean sands and child friendly rock pools with coastal walks.

Plougasnou has all the shops you could want, with a weekly market that you mustn't miss. The church is well worth a visit. We had a great meal at the restaurant 'Les Chaises' in the main square. They coped really well with our party of 13.and the food and service were excellent and at a reasonable price. (Book ahead!).

Finally, the owner, Philip is friendly but unobtrusive - - the perfect landlord.

We have already recommended Kerguelen to our friends.

Kergulen farmhouse. Plougasnou

  • 5 of 5

We all had a great holiday, found the farmhouse to be exactly as you see in the photo, great setting. The garden was brilliant especally for the kids, playing football, cricket etc etc. We had barbecues most nights, as weather was very good, plenty of sunshine exactly what the doctor had ordered. The house is basic but in good order, requires a tv/dvd player, and internet. This is the only fault we could find with it, as there was no way of checking the weather etc, with out using your mobile phone, for the internet. Tv/dvd player would havebeen great, as some nights the kids, just wanted to sit, after a busy day at the beech. (and that includes the grown ups, as we where shattered most days, after swiming, football, cricket etc, and the occational bottle of wine). The house we found to be in a great location, in relation to the beeches (of which there is two excellent one's both within walking distance/bicycle). The loverly little villige of Plougasnou, was just a short walk, having a bakery and a butcher's shop and a few cafe's. There is also a supermarket, which has every thing you will need. All in all we had a great time, and would certainly not think twice and book it again. (grand children still talking about it, wanting to know when we can go back). Just a tip for any body traveling from the UK, as it was approx 6.5 hrs drive from getting off the train from Folkstone, try using the ferry from from Plymouth to Roscoff. We came back on it, and what a difference it makes to your travelling time, as Roscoff is only about 45 minutes to the farmhouse. We came back this way and was much easier.

From the Owner

Kerguelen was the second house I bought in Plougasnou. I had always noticed this house as it slowly became overgrown and dilapidated, and by chance passed by on the day the 'for sale' sign was put up. It is a beautifully grand farmhouse in a sunny sheltered spot. One day I will live here, but with grown up children it is far too big, thus it'll earn it's keep as a gite. I hope you enjoy it.
