About the property

Beautiful Trullo with Salt Water Pool nestled in an Olive Grove and surrounded by a Tranquil Garden and Sun Drenched Terraces

Trullo della Scrittrice is a beautiful trullo located just a few kilometres from Ostuni (La Citta' Bianca), nestled amongst olive and fruit trees, it’s the ideal place to spend a relaxing holiday.

The trullo is surrounded by a private garden and a huge sun drenched terrace. You can take a glass of wine and a book and unwind under the large gazebo, before dining alfresco. There is also a fantastic, eleven meter, salt water pool so you really have no need to leave, but if you do want a change of scenery there are blue flag beaches a mere twenty minutes drive away.

Trullo della Scrittrice is perfectly located for you to explore the local towns and villages of Puglia, with Ostuni, Ceglie Messapica and Cisternino all just a short drive away.

To take away any of the stress from your arrival there will be a generous welcome basket waiting for you, filled with all the essentials to get you started including some local wine and of course olives. We can also arrange a bigger shop too; so you can just unwind and relax for the first few days without even having to leave this heavenly spot…..

If you'd like to try some delicious home cooked Pugliese food we can also arrange for the wonderful Vita to cook for you (please ask for details when you arrive).

About David Capon

David and Francesco moved to Puglia in 2012 to get away from the hustle and bustle of London and start a new chapter in their lives.

David has years of experience in hospitality and retail, most recently as part owner of the award-winning boutique ‘Black Truffle‘. Francesco has been a stylist, designer and fashion consultant in both London and Rome. When David finally managed to coax Francesco to return to his native Italy, the two brought with them a unique flair for design, which is reflected in the decor at Trullo della Scrittrice and beautifully compliments its original charm.

David and Francesco have worked with people from all over the world, so you will definitely be assured a warm welcome where they will be on hand to make your holiday a memorable one.

David Capon purchased this villa in 2013

Why David Capon chose Ostuni

We moved to Puglia in May 2012 where we bought Casa della Scrittrice which we opened as an intimate B&B the following year. Since then we have spent our time since exploring and discovering all Puglia has to offer. We finally decided it was time to share the secret of this beautiful region with more of you, so when Trullo della Scrittrice came up for sale, just next door, we knew it was the perfect location to be able to make that happen....

What makes this villa unique

If you are looking for somewhere to relax and unwind from a busy hectic life, Trullo della Scrittrice is that place.

Situated in the countryside just outside Ostuni, you will be surrounded by olive trees and gardens with your own private salt water pool. Just sit back and relax while you soak up the glorious Puglian sunshine or just jump into the pool for a swim or just to cool off, whichever, this really is the perfect spot! If you have to do some work there is still no better place, just plug in your computer and make use of the free WiFi. Then take an aperitivo out to the gazebo and unwind from nothing more than a day of sightseeing, while you sit and watch the sky turn from blue to red as the sun sets.....

Trullo della Scrittrice is set in almost an acre of grounds surrounded by olive and fruit trees. On the large sun drenched terrace you will find a purpose built BBQ, while two gazebos offer shady spots for both dining and relaxing. Just across the terrace is the 11x5 meter pool where you will find sun loungers and another shady gazebo where you can relax, swim or just soak up the sunshine. The pool is open from mid May to mid October. Feel free to help yourself to the figs, pomegranates, almonds, walnuts or wild herbs that are abundant in the garden... just remember to leave some for other visitors. The weather in Puglia is ideal for eating alfresco. Just outside there is a shady gazebo where you can take all your meals. The second large gazebo is perfect for relaxing with an aperitivo - in Puglia the outside really is like having another room! We can also arrange a babysitter for a small fee if the grown ups want an evening out alone. Quality linens and towels are provided free of charge, including pool/beach towels. The Trullo will be cleaned and linens changed for guests staying more than ten days. There is a stove that runs central heating, so if you are looking for an early spring or winter break you will be nice and snug inside, even if it's a little cooler outside. We provide a generous daily fuel allowance for your stay and you can purchase further fuel for a small extra charge if you run out. Why not book for a Christmas break? We provide a super sized festive hamper including Prosecco, home made mince pies and a delicious Panettone (Italian Christmas Cake) and lots of other delicious Italian treats. We will even put up a Christmas tree for you! If you stay on in to early January you can also experience a live nativity (Presepe) in one of the nearby towns and watch the arrival of the Three Kings.

Just wonderful

A lovely characterful trullo located in a magical olive grove. The place was spotlessly clean and maintained to a very high standard. David & Francesco were wonderful hosts and nothing was too much trouble

Fantastic Trullo in heavenly surroundings, a real gem

  • 5 of 5

The moment we were welcomed to this wonderful Trullo we started to relax - and what a wonderful place to unwind. The Trullo is well equipped and we loved all the decorative touches - it felt like a real home rather than a rental property. We loved sitting in the various arbours and the atmosphere at night is wonderful, with lots of candles, decorative lighting and Puglian artefacts - really lovely.

David and Fran are generous and extremely friendly and do everything they can to make your stay special - thank you both for making us so welcome.

Special moments include sitting on the rooftop watching the sun rise or sun set over the surrounding olive groves - also a great place for morning yoga practice (or an aperitif)!

The salt water pool is lovely and large enough to swim properly - and we have never stayed anywhere where so much attention is paid to keeping the pool and the property spotlessly clean.

A great place to relax but within easy reach of lots of lovely local towns with their markets, winding streets, art and music, great bars and great restaurants. Also easy to reach the beautiful local beaches - a car is essential to explore this stunning area.

We loved it and can't wait to be back. Again, thank you.

Beautiful Trullo located in a wonderful region of Puglia

  • 5 of 5

This Trullo is located 10 mins by card from the beautiful town of Ostuni. The Trullo décor is traditional but with all the mod cons you would want such as washing machine, WIFI, TV, Cooker etc. There are 2 fabulous outdoor terraces with a BBQ which we used for either having our meals, reading, playing cards and games, enjoying a nice drink or watching the stars at night. The pool was clean and good size with easy steps in and out. Our daughters were never out of it and it was a welcome from the hot sunshine. Location wise its very peaceful both day and night but very easy to access all roads and towns. The grounds are extensive and we loved the way we could pick figs, pomegranates, plums and grapes straight from the garden and they tasted delicious!

Upon arrival there was a welcome basket which had a great selection of goods and local wine and we loved going to the local food market held in Ostuni 3 times a week. There was also an information pack provided by the villa owners David and Franco which gave you all the necessary information regarding the area, its amenities, places to visit and restaurants. We ate at 3 of their restaurant recommendations and thoroughly enjoyed the meals and experience and visited all the nearby tourist towns and had a great time.

David and Francesco the villa owners are extremely friendly, nice and very helpful. Their knowledge and love of the region is infectious and they are only to happy to share this with you to ensure you enjoy your holiday. Francesco taught my daughters Italian words and phrases which they had great delight in using. His recommendation on the best gelateria was a hit with my daughters and meant regular visits which made them very happy!

We have visited Italy many times and love the people and its food and drink. This was our first visit to the region of Puglia and I can honestly say we fell in love. The holiday was just perfect and without a doubt we will be returning again! We would recommend this Trullo and region without hesitation.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this place. The location is really great : calm, not too far from Ostuni (only 5 minutes driving), not too far from the beaches (even if we have really enjoyed the swimming pool, and we went only 2 times at the beach). If you are looking for something peaceful, calm, relax, it it the right place to be. You have different terraces : one is more for break fast, diner, lunch, and another one is perfect for a drink or when you want to play cards. The inside of the trullo is very well decorated. The beds are perfect : it is nice to sleep well, there is a fan in the 2 bedrooms which we did not need as the inside of the trullo was fresh.

There is a washing machine in the bathroom.

The welcome basket was really appreciated and very good. It was not necessay to go outside for our first meal : we found everything in the welcome basket.

David and Francesco are very nice owners. We had a kind of writing guide book at our arrival and all the necessay information was writting on it (the beaches, the supermarkets, the shops, the restaurants..........etc). Perfect, as it is not the case in all the locations. It helps a lot to have these information.

We had the visit everyday of one cat of the owners. He was so cute and nice. Our children had a crush for that lovely cat.

We really feel at our ease in that accommodation and we really recommend that place.

Many thanks again David and Francesco.

Wonderful trullo, quiet, very well equipped.

  • 5 of 5

We spent almost two weeks in La Scritice. We had a wondeful stay. Definitely one of the best holiday properties we stayed in; well equipped, nice interior design, perfect pool and garden. As a bonus two excellent hosts who gave us very useful tips where to go and eat and helped out in making reservations. Highly recommended!

Trulli Madly Deeply. I am in love!!

  • 5 of 5

Trulli are quirky and conical shaped buildings, they are scattered all over the Puglian landscape. Historically used as either a place to rest weary heads after a long day toiling on the land or as storage for animal feed, they are now converted into stylish homes. The Trullo della Scrittrice, the writer's house has been sprinkled with the magical touch of David and Fran and makes you want to stay for ever. Ancient gnarled olive trees and a beautiful feeling of space add to the charm and ambience of the trullo. Inside is delightful and a welcome basket of local delicacies was much appreciated. My pet hate when staying abroad is the nasty bed linen, but of course I needn't have worried as crisp cotton sheets were awaiting my slumbers. One of the joys of Italy is the food and the local supermarket in Ostuni was regaled with our shrieks of delight as we sniffed and prodded all the fresh fruit and vegetables. It was such a treat to be able to prepare simple delicious salads and fresh pasta dishes and eat out under the stars. I can't wait to return next year to once again revel in the delights of Trullo della Scrittrice.

The beautiful Blue Flag beaches of the Costa Merlata (the Lace Coast) are just a short 15-20 minute drive away across the olive filled plain below Ostuni, so whether you are looking for a sandy beach, somewhere rocky to snorkel or would rather discover the wildlife and fauna at the WWF reserve at Torre Guaceto they are all close at hand.

Trullo della Scrittrice is located in the countryside just outside Ostuni (La Citta' Bianca) so car hire is essential but with either Brindisi airport just 40 minutes away or Bari airport slightly over an hour away you will be able to fly straight in pick up your hire car and be relaxing by the pool in no time at all.

The trullo is located just a 10 minute drive from Ostuni half way to Ceglia Messapica; the gastronomic hub of the region, beautiful Cisternino is just a 15 minute drive away, Martina Franca which holds a Baroque music festival each summer is 35 minutes away and historic Lecce just over an hour, further afield you will find Galipolli and in nearby Basilicatta the UNESCO heritage site of the 'Sassi' in Matera (2019 European City of Culture). In Puglia there really is something for everyone...

Further Details:

There are lots of amazing local restaurants in the area so if you love food you will be in foodie heaven, from family run trattoria's to Michelin starred restaurants there is something for everyone.

For those of you who love to shop you will find everything from designer boutiques to weekly general markets or if you prefer the hunt for something older you can head to one of the local weekly Sunday antique markets.

In the summer months there is always lots to see and do with festivals of music, dance and of course food, but when the towns and villages really come alive is during the 'Festa' to celebrate the local saints day, which in Ostuni is Saint Oronzo in late August.
