Description

'Labarthe Cottage' Sleeps 1 - 8 guests

Labarthe Cottage is the former farmhouse, a detached cottage that has been renovated and tastefully decorated throughout. It features stone walls with solid oak beams, and retains all its old charm and character. Ground level, a double bedroom with a bathroom almost ensuite.

Up the stairs, there are two bedrooms, with a bathroom which is fitted with a large shower, wash basin and W.C. To the right is a double bedroom and to the left side there is a large bedroom equipped with 4 single beds.

In total, the cottage will sleep up to 8+1/2 babies, baby cots, highchairs, stair gates and a stroller available.

While staying at Labarthe Cottage you will enjoy your own patio terrace and garden area with own BBQ and will 'splash about' in the 12x6 meter heated swimming pool and shower, open between May - October. I offer a reduced rate for just a couple during May/June & September/October.

A touch of Perigordian paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived by bicycle having cycled from Bergerac with all our kit and needed to unload in order to cycle on to Eymet for our weekend shopping. I had emailed Jenette in advance requesting early access and was delighted to find, not only access but beer, wine, cheese etc. provided - a lovely touch and a good indication as to how the holiday would develop.

We met Jenette on our return from the shopping trip, our panniers well laden and were touched by her warm welcome and generous offer of transport for future shopping trips; an offer we graciously declined ( We Bikerboys only use cycles on these trips!). She comprehensively filled us in on the property, the swimming pool and the surrounding area and then melted away leaving us with the clear understanding that she was only the ring of a doorbell away should we need her.

The quality of the equipment, furniture, beds and linen was first class and augmented by a private outside living area, with brick built barbecue and overlooking the rolling rural landscape. We also had access to a separate building adjacent to ours which contained a washing machine and in which we were able to secure our bikes at night ( not that we could imagine any theft risk in this setting).

We found the gite well placed for exploring the area by bike with a choice of quiet D roads and a multitude of quiet country lanes running along the river valleys. There are plenty of delightful medieval villages within striking distance with plenty of options for plat du jour and later rehydration sessions - thirsty work cycling! For those who are younger and fitter than we are the scope for riding further into the hills is an added bonus.

To summarise: An excellent gite with a fantastic landlady in an idyllic countryside setting with plenty to do and see and the bonus of an excellent swimming pool in which to cool off in the evening - and within easy reach of Bergerac airport.

Thanks Jenette - hopefully we will be back!

Disappointed. We paid for a villa with a swimming pool, but we didn't get one

  • 3 of 5

I write this review in the hope that others don't experience the same disappointment as we did. In general we were perfectly happy, and we made the most of the situation, but the issue regarding the swimming pool is one that could easily have been avoided if the owner had been more open and honest before we arrived. Had we known that there would be no swimming pool, we would have booked elsewhere.

The evenings can be a bit chilly, and I recognise that it might not be commercially viable to run an outdoor heated pool for certain months of the year. However, if an owner is advertising a heated pool, surely it is reasonable to expect them to provide one. If the pool is not in use, it should surely be their responsibility to make this clear at a particular time, both in their advert, and certainly in written communication at the time of booking.

Unfortunately, in our experience, the owner chose not to mention anything about the pool until the day we arrived; one of our children excitedly asked where the pool was, and the owner just said that it was too cold to use the pool.

If the owner had perhaps offered to let us use the pool without heating it, that would have been a fair compromise, and I would have accepted that perhaps I was naiive to think that they would provide a heated pool in April. But to advertise a swimming pool, yet to provide no access to one, really is unfair, particularly when the weather is 20-25 degrees and sunny, and you are able to sunbathe, as we were able to for most of our holiday.

Needless to say, we were extremely disappointed, as we had planned to use the swimming pool as the major part of our leisure activity whilst staying at the villa.

I will say though, that Jenette, the owner, was otherwise lovely, and communicated well with me about other things before arrival. The property is situated in a lovely, secluded spot in a very picturesque, rural area. The villa that we stayed in was perfectly pleasant. Jenette left us a lovely welcome pack, including bread, wine, cheese. biscuits etc. We were given wood for the log burner for the colder evenings, and everything was exactly as I would expect. Except for that one, very significant thing.

I really hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. At least you won't make the same mistake as me, and will presumably check that the swimming pool that is being advertised is actually available.

Wonderfully relaxing stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 have just returned from a wonderful 12 night stay at Labarthe Cottage. We spent our time sightseeing, visiting the markets, eating and mainly swimming in the fantastic pool. The setting is beautiful, and the location, close to Eymet makes it an excellent base for exploring the area. The gite itself was very well equipped with comfy beds and plenty of towels for both gite and pool. Many thanks to Jenette for her tips and advice, and especially for arranging for food shopping due to our late arrival. It was much appreciated!

We would definitely recommend Labarthe - hope to visit again soon, Cathy, Atul, Ollie & Daisy.

A beautiful property with lovely rustic features

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday at Labarthe gites. The property was just as described and we had everything we needed. My 9 year old daughter adored the upstairs bedroom with its beams and large bathroom.

The pool was great for our days relaxing and the location is ideal for sight seeing. Bergerac,Bordeaux and Sarlat are all within easy travelling distance. Kayaking on the Dordogne is great fun and wine tasting at the many vineyards is a must. There are restaurants in Eymet to suit everyone's taste and pocket, The markets are a lovely way to pass a morning and to sample local produce.

Jenette was on hand to help with any queries and was very helpful and the goodies provided when we arrived along with the wine were very much appreciated.

We came home very rested and really felt like we had had a holiday. We would definitely recommend and we hope to return.
