About the Owner

A warm welcome awaits you at Le Rupestrien, our gîte in the Suisse Normande!

The gite is attached to, yet independent from, the beautiful home that we came to own in October 2013. We find this area to be one of the most attractive corners of Normandy, with its rolling hills, gorges and stunning scenery. We know you will appreciate the peace and tranquillity that is characteristic of its setting, as well as the comfort and warmth of our gîte. The property dates back to the 1700’s and has been tastefully restored and renovated over the years by its owners; the gîte was completed in 2010.

We have previous experience of running a successful gîte business in Carcassonne, so know how to make your away-from-home experience happy and stress free.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The first French and very happy. Happy New Year 2016!

Delightful cottage in an idyllic rural setting

  • 5 of 5

Le Rupestrien was just as described - a delightful country cottage in a peaceful setting. Inside, it was pristine, charmingly decorated and with every convenience to make our stay easy and comfortable. The owners had even thoughtfully left cold drinks, including a delicious bottle of wine, in the fridge, and provisions for our first breakfast. They were friendly hosts, ready with tips and advice if wanted, but also very discreet. We felt as if we had the beautiful garden to ourselves and it was a lovely, relaxing place to return to after a day out. The surrounding countryside is gorgeous, with apple orchards, fields and woods and there are several charming villages and small towns to visit. Other main tourist sights, such as the Mont St Michel and the D Day beaches, are within an easy drive. There are some wonderful opportunities for fine dining locally, too and chances to sample the delicious specialities of the area. The local Calvados distillery made for an interesting visit. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends or relatives for a holiday.

Very Comfortable Stay

  • 5 of 5

We were welcomed on arrival by Lyn and Peter and shown around the property. The cottage is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. We felt very comfortable during our week there. Outside you have a covered parking area and large private garden. There is plenty of information to hand for exploring the surrounding area. We would recommend this cottage and will more than likely return at some stage.

An outstanding holiday gite and a hidden gem!

  • 5 of 5

Linda and Peter are the perfect hosts for a relaxing holiday in the spectacular Suisse Normande area of France. They have created a welcoming gite which is beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and has to be the best equipped holiday let we have ever stayed in - and we have stayed in plenty. Linda's attention to detail and the provisions of bread, croissants, milk, eggs, homemade jams, wine and fruit juice, set this gite above the rest. Set in tranquil surroundings, with a lovely private garden, you are nevertheless not far from outdoor activities or local amenities, as well as the more popular tourist spots of Normandy which are all within easy driving distance. We had a lovely week at Le Rupestrien, and will definitely return. Thank you to Linda and Peter for making us feel so welcome. Next time, we hope to return with some friends to share this fabulous holiday home.

Wonderfully relaxing...

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to a warm welcome from Lynda, the owner, after an easy journey from Calais.

Our 'home' for the next couple of weeks was beautiful. As the description stated, well designed, exceptionally clean, cosy and equipped with everything you could possibly need. There was a store cupboard full of all the little things , condiments etc, a stocked fridge, a bottle of wine and the 1st mornings breakfast!

Both ensuite shower rooms included loads of towels, shower gel, shampoo and plenty of loo rolls!

The area is fantastic for history lovers. William the Conquerors birthplace castle is a 20 minute drive away in Falais and well with a visit, as is the town itself.

Bayeux, for the tapestry and Honfleur and also both an easy drive, as are the WW2 beaches, not to be missed. Mont St Michel is about 2 hours away.

Would definitely recommend this cottage for a wonderful holiday to unwind from the stresses of everyday life!

Thank you Lynda and Peter!

From the Owner

We have been living in France for a while, in the South West, and love the country, especially the quiet village life. This area has a wealth of history and culture, interesting to us because it is quite different from where we lived before; in addition, the more temperate summer climate suits our current preferences.
