Disappointed

  • 2 of 5

We booked a weeks stay here as our first family holiday. We found the park and the property quickly and easily thanks to the excellent instructions provided by Jess prior to our stay. Unfortunately the park was very tired looking and felt very dated and depressing. This however did not matter to us as we had not booked the accommodation for the park but as a base to explore Cornwall. On entering the property there was a damp smell mingled with another strange smell that we never got to the bottom of. The place was also not very clean. The rug was filthy, the worktops were grimy, there was mould in the fridge door handle, the plug holes were full of hair. Put simply nothing felt very clean. We messaged Jess and she quickly replied. The cleaning lady was with us within the hour and offered to reclean the property there and then. This simply wasn't practical for us as I was just putting my baby to bed. I asked her to come back the next day but she said she couldn't as it was a Sunday but she would come on Monday. We were out when she returned....by which time I had already cleaned some of the grime myself and removed the rug from the floor. Unfortunatly the cleaning was still sloppy. She had removed the foul smelling dish cloth, hovered and tidied things like the holiday brochures but other than this I couldn't see what she had done. We felt very let down by this as we have a child who puts everything in his mouth and I didn't feel comfortable with him crawling around with everything so dirty. We used the oven only once because it was filthy and smelt strongly of cooked on grease. This made cooking awkward for us but the smell was so strong it made me gag. I should add that upstairs was immaculate and the problems were only with downstairs.

We used the accommodation as a base to explore Cornwall and spent much of our time out and about. It is excellently situated for this.

The building is obviously cheaply built and prone to dampness. the windows were soaked with condensation every morning. There were moisture catchers in a few rooms but I feel that this is what has led to myself and my son coming away with rotten colds.

On leaving the property I messaged Jess to say we had left and that the oven needed a clean, that the cleaner did come back but it was sloppy and to discuss a problem with the heating. She was very swift returning our deposit but did not apologise for the problems we had encountered which is surely good practice.

The house was very comfortable and had practically all we needed. I didn't bring a hair dryer so would've been handy to have one on site? We had four young kids with us and they loved the house, the playground and swimming pool. Stairgates would've been practical for our youngest who loved venturing up and down the stairs! Hayle was very convenient for exploring Cornwall. We got to see loads including Lands End, St.Ives, Padstow and Looe. There's wonderful beaches close by too. Lots of fun activities for the kids including Crealy Adventure Park and interesting days out such as the Eden Project. All in all we had a truly fulfilling holiday and would definitely love to return again one day :-) Many thanks Jess for letting us enjoy your lovely home.

Great Cottage

On arrival we found the property to be very well equipped and clean. The location is very good for local beaches and facilities and also for exploring all of south Cornwall. All dealings and communication with the owner were excellent. We highly recommend this property.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments. I am pleased that you found the accommodation to be brilliant. It is noted on the advert that in order to get to the local beaches and attractions that a car is advisable. I have looked into the issue with the staff and will pass on feedback to the site, but am glad that it did not spoil your stay!

Location

From the Owner

Having been on holiday with my family for the first time to Cornwall we really enjoyed visiting all the attractions around St Ives and Penzance. We decided that we would like to buy our own cottage so that we could visit when ever we wanted. We have now been coming regularly since then. We have updated our property and I often make checks to ensure it is maintained to a high standard. As my children have grown, we have explored more locations and tried more activities. They are now keen body boarders and love to explore the remote coves and beaches around the area.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The beaches are approx 10 minutes drive from the property. They are beautiful and known for their miles of golden sand.

Distances:

The nearest town is Hayle - this is within walking distance but it is advisable to have a car. St Ives is very close and most accessible by train from the near by stations of St Erth or Lelant The Saltings.

Further Details:

Hayle itself has a big co-op and Lidl supermarket and as you approach Hayle there is a complex of shops, including, M&S, Next, Boots, Costa.

There are many other lovely little independent shops in Hayle to wonder around during your stay.

Facilities

From the Owner

We enjoy using all the facilities. My children have both learnt to swim in the pool, and they love to play tennis. They have not been to the entertainments at the Foxy club as that is not their thing but all reports have been very positive about this!
