About Sue King

My husband and I bought Vila Karobel 13 years ago and our delight in the place has never diminished. To us it is our sanctuary - a place where we can relax, unwind and really be ourselves. Vrboska is a wonderful place and the local people, our neighbours and friends, have made us so welcome, a real home from home. We stay in the villa twice a year in spring and autumn but are happy for other people to share our home throughout the summer and enjoy the place for themselves. The rest of the year we live in Cheltenham, UK.

Sue King purchased this house in 2003

Why Sue King chose Vrboska

The island of Hvar has the best sunshine hours in the eastern Mediterranean. The island was voted one of the 10 most beautiful islands in the world by Traveller magazine and Vrboska is one of its gems. The island not having its own airport means that it is not a victim of mass tourism.

What makes this house unique

The villa was designed 35 years ago by an architect from Zagreb for her own use as a holiday home. The design is simple but it works so well! Similar care was given to the layout of the garden which offers both sun and shade with pretty planting of Mediterranean plants and trees. Being on a quiet road yet only a few minutes walk from the town centre Vila Karobel has the best of all worlds.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"The house had everything we needed to have a lovely relaxed holiday. The children loved Vrboska and the beaches and we all can't wait until we can go back again." the Tait family

"I can't believe how friendly everyone was locally. We were made to feel so welcome. We were even invited to join in the grape harvest! The house was very comfortable and we really enjoyed using the barbecue in the evenings." Laurel and Hesti

"Arriving on the island ran very smoothly and your friends were there to meet us with a smile when we got off the ferry. The island of Hvar is so beautiful, especially Vrboska. We can't wait to go again." Sandra and Giuseppi

Outside: The house sits in the centre of a typical, Mediterranean, walled garden. There is one hot, sunny terrace with doors into the house with table and chairs and one shady terrace underneath the large Carob tree. On this terrace there is a hammock and a big, stone, traditional barbecue with preparation area to the side of it. There is a table, chairs and low walls to sit on whilst eating on this terrace. The garden is typically Mediterranean with olive trees, bougainvillea, lavender, agaves pomegranates and carob tree. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is cleaned before and after your stay. Towels and linen are provided and changed weekly. Beach towels are not provided. Other: There is a self contained basement studio apartment which is used by our family. It will NEVER be occupied when visitors are staying in the house so you will have the garden to yourself.

Lovely house in a lovely location.

  • 5 of 5

This was a great house, with everything we needed. Vbroska is lovely, as are Soline Beach and, especially Bay of Olives and Hvar as a whole. Hvar Islsnd was just gearing up for summer, so it was pretty quiet when we arrived, which suited us perfectly, but still had plenty going on. We could tell it would be really busy in a few weeks time. The kids loved swimming and the inflatable at Soline Beach, and the ice creams. I loved our trip to the Pakleni Islands, but I'd recommend taking a picnic, as the cafes and restaurants are very expensive there. The house and garden were really nice, especially the hammock! I can't fault it at all. Bozana and Dario were helpful too. My son has declared it the best holiday ever!

Beautiful garden, well appointed, tastefully decorated, great location.

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful villa and great customer service both from Sue pre-arrival and Bozana during our stay. Sue sends out a thoughtful info pack and helps arrange a meet and great with Bozana who will meet guests either at the ferry port in Stari Grad/ Hvar or in Vrboska to personally direct them to the villa. The villa is a great size for a family of four and we loved the large, tidy, enclosed garden for our toddler to run around in. The villa is extremely well equipped with everything you need for a self catering holiday and visits to the beach.

It's in a great location, very quiet but only a few minutes stroll to the centre.

Vrboska is a charming, family friendly village with character and great bars and restaurants.

Book it you will not be disappointed.

A fabulous place to relax

  • 5 of 5

The villa is set in a private garden with olive trees, lavender and a wonderful big carob tree which gives shade from the hot sun. We spent lots of time on the terrace under this tree either relaxing in the hammock, cooking on the traditional barbeque or eating the excellent foods available locally. The house itself is beautifully kitted out with everything you need for a comfortable stay.

For us the best thing was the swimming in the clear, turquoise sea. Great for snorkelling! There are quiet coves to walk to from the house or bigger, family beaches an easy cycle ride away. We would advise hiring bikes locally and exploring along the coastal paths. They are quite magical.

All in all it was a great holiday and both Sue,before we went, and her friends locally in Vrboska, made our stay even better than we imagined it could be. I can only say, 'Go and stay there, see for yourself'.

Could not have been better!

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderful holiday - the villa and its location in the picturesque village of Vrboska could not be improved upon!

Right from the time of our booking, the owners were really helpful and full of useful information, so that by the time we arrived on the island, we felt we were familiar with it already. We were met from the ferry by Dario and Bozana, who had done everything to make our arrival hassle-free and welcoming, and who were always on hand if we needed them for help or information about local events, which we really appreciated, as it helped us to feel part of the life of the village

As other reviewers have said, Vrboska is just right as a destination if you want a truly relaxed holiday: it has lovely restaurants and bars, but is not overly touristy, has really good places to swim, and it's easy to get around by bus and especially by bike if you want to see the countryside, which we loved.

The villa itself is excellent, with two good bedrooms, a comfortable living room and a very well equipped kitchen - it was great to be able to cook 'properly' if we wanted to! The men in our party really got into cooking on the wood fired barbecue too, and we had some memorable meals under the shade of the carob tree....

Overall, we all agreed that our holiday in Vrboska had been the most relaxing we had had in years, and we would definitely return to this lovely island and villa again

The villa is a few minutes walk from the harbour and seafront. This beach has a cafe/restaurant next to it and car parking. This is also the start of is a peninsula with swimming all around its 3 kilometre foot path. Along this peninsula there is sailboard, pedalo and canoe hire.

The nearest airport is Split, on the mainland. From Split there are 7 ferries and 1 catamaran daily to Stari Grad, on the Island of Hvar. Further Details:

Vrboska has 2 small supermarkets, 3 bakeries, 2 bankomats (cash points), post office, 6 restaurants and numerous cafe bars. There is a marina and a harbour for local boats, tourist offices and tourist shops. Throughout the summer there is a packed calendar of local events, fiestas and exhibitions. The local church houses a fine collection of renaissance paintings and the Venetian architecture of the village is fascinating. There are local history tours, boat hire and opportunities to take part in cookery classes, wild food collecting trips and tours of local places of interest.
