Great Barn (south wing), Trebandy Farm, Marstow

The Great Barn (south wing) is a large and spacious, comfortable and warm converted stone barn with Welsh slate roof set in beautiful landscape on the owner's 70 acre farm, with woodland, lake, river and pasture land that is home to Highland cattle and Hebridean sheep. The house is very light with an upper gallery off which the three upper bedrooms and shower room are located, the living and dining rooms being located on the ground floor (plus wood burner) together with a large double bedroom with walk-in wardrobe and en suite bathroom , as well as the main bath/shower room, kitchen and utility room. There is a walled garden outside and a tarmac area for parking 3/4 cars, as well as a lockable bike store. There are good walks on the farm, plenty of bird and wild life to be seen, and also a water wheel in the weir on the river that generates electricity for use on the farm. The house is well located for access to visitor sites, such as Goodrich Castle, Symonds yat and Forest of Dean.

About the property

Stone built converted barn in glorious countyside on the owner's rare breed farm in the Wye Valley. The property has four good size bedrooms (one double with en suite, two twins and one with a double and two single beds), bathroom with WC,whb and bath, light open and spacious living room with 3 sofas and an easy chair, dining area with table seating 8, and modern fitted kitchen. Flagstone patio surround, and fronting a grass, approached along a farm track but close to all amenities, and good for accessing all of the visitor attractions of the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean.

About Geoffrey Jordan

I bought Trebandy Farm in a semi-derelict state in 1989 and have since then devoted myself to managing the conversion and refurbishment of the 9 buildings on the farm, four of which I let. I have in the process planted some 7,000 trees (native deciduous varieties), planted several miles of hedges, reinstated the ox-bow lake in the centre of the farm (with bunds and silt traps to protect it from the annual flooding of the river that runs through the farm) and have introduced and keep on the farm rare breed Hebridean sheep and Highland cattle. The most recent project undertaken has been the installation of a water wheel in the weir of the river to generate electricity for all of the houses. It has been a privilege to be the custodian of such an unusually beautiful place.

Geoffrey Jordan purchased this house in 1989

Why Geoffrey Jordan chose Ross-on-Wye

I bought the farm in 1989 having fallen in love with the setting, and the challenge represented by so much dereliction with the potential to become perfection which I like to think is close to being achieved!. It combines seclusion with convenient access to the outside world.

What makes this house unique

Peace and quiet, natural beauty and abundant wildlife.

Simply Superb, Lovely House, Beautiful Surrounding

  • 5 of 5

From the moment you arrive the house is so welcoming. Due to a family wedding in Hereford, I decided to rent a house and take my Son, his wife and their four daughters for a holiday. As they live in a town, to be out in the countryside was quite something.

The house is very well presented with all you require to have a brilliant stay. The children loved the gardens and all the wildlife, the parents loved seeing their girls so relaxed, and I was so happy to see them all having a holiday to remember.

Anyone going to The Sheep Barn will I am certain enjoy it as much as wee did. One evening, we kept the children up till 9:45 pm, and got them to sit outside and look up. It was a clear night so with no light pollution, the sky was like black velvet scattered with glitter. They and all us adults were totally in awe of the experience.

We would all highly recommend this house and if you do, I hope you enjoy your holiday as much as we did. The saddest part was leaving, truly the children cried as they wanted to stop longer.

Thank you Mr Jordan for allowing us to share the beauty on Trebandy Farm and we hope to see you again next year.

Beautifully converted barn in charming farm setting. Ideal for our family celebration.

We were delighted with the beautiful living spaces in this barn, thoughtfully equipped for entertaining. Very comfortable. Would definitely book again. Our only issue was we couldn't access wifi but we didn't have time to bring it up with the owners.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay but sorry about the wifi. We recently (after a trying time with BT Openreach) had super-fast fibre broadband installed but it does not operate in the south wing as well as expected, although I am hopeful that a new booster unit will now change all that. Very comfortable property for 2 families with dogs

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful open plan property which was perfect for our 2 families - 4 adults, 4 teenage children and 2 large dogs. The property was well maintained and comfortably furnished. The kitchen is fairly narrow but well equipped and functional for preparing meals. The barn was attached to the owners barn but set at 90 degrees so not overlooked in the garden which was walled with a gate which was handy for the dogs to be free in. The owner Geoffrey was able to assist with any issues we had or information we required. The property is set in 70 acres of farmland with cattle, lakes and a river. You are allowed to wander anywhere within the farm boundaries (dogs on leads of course) which was great. We had superb weather for our week so used the outside space and front balcony for relaxing with fantastic evening strolls with the dogs around the farm - superb week, totally relaxing.
