Ropewalk Cottage Lymington views river mouth and Isle of Wight. Parking space

Overview

Property

Updated: 24-Nov-2016
Ropewalk Cottage Lymington Hants opposite River, Marmina, Sea, Isle of Wight; by New Forest - Walking Distance Town, Quay, Station; Set Back From Road, private parking, brilliant coastal walk

2 Ropewalk Cottages, built in 1860, was originally one of a row of five cottages occupied by fisherman, rope makers and boat builders. It is superbly situated by Lymington's scenic waterfront and has its own parking space. The cottage is double glazed, gas central heated, well equipped and comfortably furnished. The bedrooms are downstairs and the kitchen and spacious living room with balcony are upstairs.

Downstairs: The master bedroom has a king sized bed and a large wardrobe with shelves and hanging space. A glazed door leads out into a private courtyard with garden furniture and attractive shrubs. The second bedroom has a single bed, chest of drawers, bedside chest and an array of robe hooks. The bathroom has a powerful shower over the bath and a back lit shaving mirror over the basin. The property benefits from a separate lavatory and basin. There is a glazed entrance porch which is very useful for outdoor clothing. There is an external utility room in the front courtyard with Belfast sink, washing machine, tumble dryer, freezer, ironing equipment, bike stands and shelves. The parking bay is in a shared private drive with a short walk to the cottage gate.

Upstairs: The living room is light and airy with French windows onto the balcony. There are 2 sofas and a large table which seats five comfortably. There is a flat screen free view TV, radio, CD player, DVD player and unlimited broadband internet/Wi-Fi. The modern and well fitted kitchen leads off the dining area and has an electric fan oven, electric grill, gas hob, microwave oven, generous sized fridge with ice box, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and a good selection of utensils and crockery.

From the balcony you see dingy sailors tinkering with their boats in the adjacent carpark, masts in Lymington Yacht Haven, Lymington/Yarmouth ferries coming and going and the Isle of Wight. Close by are the slipway, the life boat station, the famous Victorian outdoor sea water baths, The Royal Lymington Yacht Club, the Town Sailing Club and stunning coastal walks through the salt marsh nature reserve: a bird lover's paradise. Lymington is a much loved Georgian town on the south coast with many good pubs and restaurants in the area. Lymington Town Station, the quay and the historic High Street with its bustling Saturday market are all only a short walk from the cottage. The New Forest National Park with wild ponies, cattle, donkeys, deer and gorgeous walks is a short drive away. The nearest beach is at Milford-on-Sea. Mudeford, Boscombe, Southbourne and Bournemouth beaches are just a bit further along the coast and well worth visiting.

About the Owner

I have relations on both sides living in the area. One set of grandparents built a house in nearby Hordle over 80 years ago and later my other grandmother moved to Lymington too. We have lived here for 38 years and couldn't think of a lovelier place to be.

'Thank you! We loved the lot! The cottage and the forever changing view. We visited lots of the local attractions and loved Beaulieu Motor Museum. We would recommend the local walks around the old salt plains. A bird lover's paradise! And YES we would recommend the cottage. Thank you again.' May & Mark 26.09.2014

'A wonderful two weeks, in an extremely clean and comfortable cottage. An ideal centre for the New Forest. We look forward very much to a return visit.' Peter & Anita. 19.09.2014

'We couldn't recommend Ropewalk Cottage highly enough. It's a very comfortable cottage with everything you need for a very comfortable holiday (including WIFI). The balcony is such an added bonus for evenings enjoying the boats. Location is fantastic for exploring the area by bike, car or bus and more locally on foot. Caroline and William are perfect hosts who make you very welcome. We hope to be back soon.' Debbie & Jon. 29.08.2014.

A home from home for all seasons

  • 5 of 5

This was our third stay at Ropewalk, unlike many properties which are picturesque but impractical this cottage provides everything required for a comfortable, trouble free holiday: off street parking; outdoor spaces front and back plus a good size balcony; a fully equipped kitchen and utility room and highly efficient central heating. It is a warm and cosy retreat which is best described as home from home. Caroline and William are excellent hosts and are keen to ensure that guests are comfortable.

The position of the cottage is ideal for walking into Lymington or around the Keyhaven nature reserve.

This was our fifth holiday in Lymington but we were still able to find new places to visit and different venues for meals to add to old favourites. The Saturday market is one of the best we have been to; a walk around the nature reserve is never the same from one day to the next and lunch at the Chequers always goes down well. Independent coffee shops and cafes are numerous and provide a welcome change from high street brands. Needless to say we would recommend Ropewalk to friends and family and we are looking forward to returning in the future.

Return to Ropewalk Cottage

  • 5 of 5

After spending Christmas at Ropewalk cottage on my own, I returned with two friends for an autumn break. The cottage is perfect for three people. We did not drive, and spent one day on the Isle of Wight, a short and inexpensive ferry trip. Also my friends visited Brockenhurst for the day to walk in the New Forest. Otherwise Lymington provided everything we needed. Waitrose for shopping, nice coffee shops for a mid morning break, and , in our case, the Kings Head for an evening meal, and lovely walks along the coast path. The cottage is clean, warm and the balcony and views really add a dimension. We cooked at home a few times and found everything we needed . As before, Caroline, was very helpful and welcoming. All of us hope to return and I would recommend the cottage to other friends.

Cosy Comfortable and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here - Sept 9 for 2 weeks. Perfect location, just 10mins walk to Lymington High St, and 5mins walking brings you to the sea wall and the salt marshes, with egrets and curlew etc.

The cottage has everything you will need for a cosy relaxing holiday, especially the friendly and helpful owners.

A delightful cottage in an excellent location

  • 4 of 5

We loved our recent stay in Ropewalk Cottage which is really lovely and in a wonderful location, equidistant to the fabulous Nature Reserve and to the main streets of the town, the Quay and the ferry terminal to the Isle of Wight. Being an "upside down" house with a balcony from the sitting room looking towards the yachts moored on the water really adds to its appeal. Lymington itself is an interesting historical town with lots of fine old buildings and there are many other interesting places to explore in the area and New Forest. We didn't have enough time to do all that we wanted and plan to return to Ropewalk Cottage, hopefully next Spring.

Caroline, the owner is very friendly and helpful and we would definitely recommend this cottage to our friends.

Location

From the Owner

We live in another cottage round the corner from 2 Ropewalk Cottages. We bought Ropewalk Cottage when our daughter at 31 decided to return home and retrain to become a teacher. We are retired and the thought of the alarm going off at 6.15 a.m and lesson plans covering the kitchen table was too much! Ropewalk Cottage benefits from an uplifting view of the Isle of Wight, the river, boats and sailors. We only get a glimpse of this, from our loft, sadly! We adore the area because of its beauty and all the outdoor activities it offers. The cottage is in a sought after road, set well back. It is near good pubs, shops, the quay and the market and only a short drive away from the New Forest and the beach.

Facilities

From the Owner

The living area is on the first floor and there is always something to watch from the balcony and the French windows. This makes it a special property. Parking is at a premium in Lymington, particularly near the water. This cottage has private off street parking for one. The public car park serves your visitors well if you cannot find free parking in the nearby roads. The cottage is tastefully and comfortably furnished and has interesting themed artwork. There is a local shop and good pub, The Mayflower Hotel, close by. A beautiful coastal walk runs in one direction from the cottage and the bandstand, slipway, town quay and town with its many boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants is an easy walk away in the other direction. The New Forest with its wild ponies, donkeys, cattle and deer is a close drive away as is Milford-on-Sea.
