About the Owner

My husband and I along with our 2 children, bought and then renovated this property to create a family home. We lived in Città di Castello for 7 years, where our children went to local schools, my husband worked for a engineering company and I looked after the home. Since returning to the UK, we're very happy to share our wonderful home with our guests so that they may enjoy the delights of Umbria!

A Real Italian Delight

  • 5 of 5

Casa Susina is a well equipped apartment attached to the main farmhouse with access to a large swimming pool and set in the heart of the beautiful Umbrian countryside with local fields filled with sunflowers. The nearby walled town of Citta di Castello is only 10 minutes away by car (or slightly longer if you prefer a leisurely walk along the banks of the River Tiber and the many fields of sunflowers) and has an excellent selection of bars and restaurants. Our favourites were Ristorante Vineria Del Vasaio L'Accademia and Preludio.

The apartment is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area - Arezzo, Assissi, Gubbio and Perugia are all within easy travelling distance. There are also numerous picturesque hilltop villages to visit where you can enjoy a welcoming cold drink in a piazza after a short climb.

Although Natasha, Tony and the family are now based in the UK, they were still extremely helpful during our stay.

Fantastico!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely fantastic! Loved every minute and what an adventure. Such a great place which looks even better in reality than on the pictures. Gorgeous villa with stunning apartment to the side, surrounded by fields of swaying sunflowers, smiling constantly. What a week we had! Spent the week touring various areas, including Pisa, Florence and Rome to name a few of the larger places. Ideally located to explore the local surrounding area and beyond. This isn't tourist Italy, this is the real thing! Sleeves rolled up, knees deep, up to your neck in it Italy! Exactly what you need to visit this fantastic country and feel like you've done it properly. We wouldn't have wanted it any other way and couldn't have wished for anything better.

Food in the local restaurants is great, would recommend Ristorante la Pieve Vecchia - 5 minutes drive from the apartment, great food and reasonably priced. We even met a couple in the restaurant who had come all the way from Rome for Pizza!

Monterchi is a great place to see, we visited on the festival day which was great fun, as well as Anghiari - highly recommended and provides a truly authentic feel.

The apartment was larger than expected, extremely comfortable and very welcoming - it's probably nicer than our house! Has absolutely everything you need. This review definitely doesn't do it justice.

This review wouldn't be complete without a huge THANK YOU to Natasha, Tony, Holly, Jack and of course the lovely Misty. Natasha has even provided a pack in the apartment full of activities, experiences and days out to help get the most out of your stay. Such a lovely family with a very warm heart - we felt like we'd come to visit our own family. Thank you!

This was our first visit to Italy, but definitely wont be the last, and the first place we will return to....... Casa Susina, of course!

Culture and Hospitality

  • 4 of 5

We had one of our best holidays here in Citta. In no small way, was this due to the kindness and friendliness of our hosts. They made us feel part of the family.

There is so much to do in the area , particularly if you love Renaissance art and architecture. So much is within easy reach and what we pay special visits to see in UK galleries, abounds in the churches and streets and galleries of the area.

Add to this, lovely countryside , great food and wine in local trattorias together with a lovely apartment. Highly recommended.

An Oasis

  • 5 of 5

We spent four super days in what became our Oasis in a very hot Italy....

We absolutely loved this place, Tony & Natasha were perfect hosts providing as much or as little input as we required.

Our children spent most of the days in the pool with the Tony & Natasha's children and most of the evenings enjoying local Italian cuisine and ice-cream.

The property is a fantastically restored traditional Italian farmhouse, very tastefully decorated with everything you need to enjoy your break.

We look forward to returning soon.

Thank you very much xx

Excellent apartment, beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We were privileged to stay at Casa Susina this summer, a newly refurbished apartment near Citta di Castello. Clean, modern and well-equipped, the apartment was well-located for local amenities and perfect spacious for two people. Outside, the pool and gardens were well-kept and provided an excellent space to enjoy typically Umbrian surroundings. This was a perfect home-from-home from which to explore the area: our visit included Assisi, Perugia and Arezzo among others. We certainly won't forget the kindness and hospitality of Natasha and Tony, who were on hand to make us feel welcome and provide expert local knowledge. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable and we hope to be back very soon!

Location

From the Owner

This property provides a perfect setting for a tranquil holiday in beautiful surroundings whilst being an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding area. My husband did most of the renovation work himself and I helped to design it. So we absolutely love this house and hope you do too!

Notes:

  • Being a 300 year old Italian farmhouse, the walls are exceptionally thick which means the house and the apartment stay cool in the summer (without air-con)and warm in the winter. There is under-floor heating which works very effectively in the winter months and guests are charged at the current rate. The apartment was rented out last year and as you'll see from the reviews it was and continues to be a huge success! This is the first season for the main house, however, the quality of accommodation is to the same high standard Outside: The swimming pool is 10x5m and has a continuous depth of 1.5m. The pool area is surrounded by patio and sun loungers. There is also a shower for rinsing. There is a very large roof terrace from the lounge of the main house, overlooking the pool, which is great for outside dining or private sunbathing. There is a large patio outside the apartment for al fresco dining, shaded by a beautiful oak tree. The spacious garden has abundant fruit trees - fig, cherry, peach, apple and pear, from which you can pick and enjoy straight from the trees. The following courses can be arranged: Yoga, Italian, cookery, wine-tasting, photography, art, jewellery and lace making. As can the following activities: half day trips to local oil mills, vineyards, truffle hunting, pottery tour, local towns and markets. We can also organise a babysitter, beautician and reflexology. Bike hire is also available and is a very popular choice as the house is very close to the river Tiber which offers a wonderful cycle path from the village to the nearest town.
