This small traditional country estate lies at the heart of the Northern Lake District with the Lakeland Fells of Skiddaw to the north, Castlerigg and High Seat to the east and the Newlands Round to the south and west. Central to the estate is a grand grade II listed Victorian house, built in 1870 and used as a holiday residence by Beatrix Potter during her early years in the Lake District. Beautiful paths lead you through the gardens straight to Derwentwater and the estate’s large stretch of private lake frontage. A short stroll down the drive takes you to a footpath leading to Catbells, one of the most famous lakeland walks and in the other direction to the boat launch to Keswick. The idyllic yet convenient location means you can enjoy a truly relaxing holiday without having to use your car

If you are looking for a tranquil lakeside location with nature at your fingertips, stunning scenery and Lakeside access then Lingholm is the perfect place for you.

Everything we could have wished for!

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at Lingholm and are already thinking about when our next trip will be! From the moment we pulled up to Lingholm house we knew we had chosen somewhere very special. We stay in Swinside apartment (which is essentially a wing of the main house) which was beautiful; very spacious and elegant with high ceilings, a huge bath and a huge bay window which overlooks the main lawn and drive with views to the woods. The apartment has been furnished to a very high standard and is very tasteful and clean while still being very cozy with lots of original features. Everything we could have possibly needed was there and there were lots of nice touches such as fresh milk and delicious local tea bread to greet us. Jenny was really friendly and helpful and has obviously taken care to ensure guests have all the information needed with all the local guides, books and maps to look at.

Beautiful Derwentwater is literally less than 5 minutes walk away as the estate has it's own private shoreline so it's also extremely quite and peaceful and as we went in November often felt like we had this whole stretch of lake shore and woodland to ourselves! The views are to die for and if you want natural unspoilt tranquility this is the lake for you, although Keswick is only half an hours walk away so you're never too far from a good selection of traditional pubs and shops. We never had to use our car at all once we arrived. For a good walk, start from Lingholm walking to Hawes End and the not too difficult climb up Catbells for amazing views and then walk down to Lodore to see the waterfall and visit the hotel for a tasty meal in beautiful surroundings.

Wildlife is aplenty on the estate and on our last day we were lucky enough to see a roe deer taking a leisurely stroll through the woodland. Just one of many highlights of a fantastic break in the perfect location. I'm often told I'm a fairly fussy person and even I can't think of anything I would change about this place. If you're visiting the lakes and want a touch of country estate luxury in a truly unique location then stay at at Lingholm - you will be so glad you did!
