About Sophie Verschuur

We moved from London 5 years ago to this beautiful and well placed area in Kent. Over time we have collected an array of pets: dogs, cats, rabbits and chickens who can regularly be seen roaming the garden. We are relaxed and easy going and are always happy to help our guests in anyway whether it is information or recommendations. We run our holiday let for pleasure and so far everyone has been fantastic.

Sophie Verschuur purchased this barn in 2010

Why Sophie Verschuur chose Kent

It is excellently placed for everything you could wish for: walks on your doorstep with beautiful countryside, small villages, large towns, trains and good commutability.

  • 4 of 5

The only thoughts are as stated above noise from neighbours. Hosts very hospitable.

Very cozy in a great loction. Everrything we needed and very nice family.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was exactly what we needed and had hoped for. In a quiet rural location but near to the village. Very comfortable for three of us and the family who own and let the cottage are very friendly and helpful. It made an excellent base for exploring the historic sights and wonderful gardens in Kent and East Sussex. We stayed for a week and made day trips each day to a different location within an hours drive of the cottage. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Perfect cottage for two in beautiful, peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

Lovely warm welcome and a delicious lemon cake which was very much appreciated! Beautiful cottage, everything you could need, immaculate and well decorated throughout with lovely touches such as freshly picked flowers on arrival. Well screened and planted patio outside with seating, unfortunately a little chilly for us to take advantage of on this occasion. Excellent, quiet rural location, good access to National Trust properties, towns and villages of Sussex and Kent, not too far to the coast too. Sophie very welcoming and helpful. Would recommend to anyone thinking of a holiday in Beautiful Sussex - a real home from home! Thank you.

The most perfect holiday house

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in a clean spacious house with flowers and a delicious freshly baked Victoria Sponge Cake. Sophie was very welcoming and friendly - giving advise on places to visit in Hastings.

Everything in Freshwater Barn was working perfectly - high standart compared to other places we have visited in South England.

Canadians Enjoy a Cottage in Kent

  • 5 of 5

We are home in Canada having spent a wonderful week in Freshwater Barn. Sophie was excellent in communicating with us from a distance, and her warm welcome, including a freshly baked loaf and flowers from her garden, made us feel at home. The cottage, including a gourmet stove, is well equipped and very comfortable for two people. The local village has a friendly pub, small grocery store with local products, and a meat shop.

Freshwater Barn is well located for touring. We visited Bodiam, Sissinghurst and Scotney, all lovely in the September sunshine. We also walked for miles on the public footpaths while geocaching on the beautiful Kent Weald. Our holiday at Freshwater Barn will always be memorable. Thank you Sophie.
