About the Owner

We fell in love with the North Norfolk coast many years ago, and we have many happy memories of family holidays here with our children and dogs.

Whilst holidaying in a lovely bungalow in 2012, we got talking to the owner, and before long we were thinking how wonderful it would be to have a holiday home of our own up on this beautiful coast.

After much searching, we bought Oystercatchers in June 2013 and immediately began giving it our own 'stamp'.

We wanted to create a really peaceful retreat with a coastal theme throughout.

We hope to let Oystercatchers until we retire, when we will re-locate to live there ourselves.

Excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Oystercatchers. Bungalow clean and well equipped and very spacious. Short walk to gastro pub, village shop and beach (pebbles). 15-20 min walk to heritage railway station. Drive into Sherrington 5-8mins. Neighbours chatty and friendly. Good off road parking for 2 cars.

All in all a 5 star stay. We'll be back!

Family holiday with young children

  • 5 of 5

The property was in a lovely village, with a good pub serving great food. The property was very clean well equipped. Plenty of information about local attractions and clear information about all equipment in the property. It was ideal for the three generations of our family with plenty of space, and we would all highly recommend this property and would definitely book it again when visiting this area.

What a great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Oystercatchers was the best bungalow we have stayed in so far, it was well equipped and the beds so comfortable. The views from the bungalow were superb and the walks in Weybourne are lovely. We liked the special touch with the supply of biscuits and tea and coffee all ready on the dining table, thanks.

super holiday

  • 5 of 5

Oystercatchers was a super holiday cottage, just the right location for walks & trips out. The cottage was very comfortable & had everything in it that was needed. It catered for all age groups & a dog. It was located near a superb pub where the meals were lovely, & it was only a short walk away from Weybourne beach. It was safe for our grandson & his friend to use their scooters in the road & for them to walk over to the fields to play football. The weather was good the whole week which added to the enjoyment.

Oystercatchers

  • 4 of 5

Oystercatchers was a lovely retreat and matched our expectations from the description given. It catered well for six people self-catering was made easy with a well equipped kitchen and dishwasher. Room was ample with enough seating for everyone. An added bonus for the teenagers was the table tennis table and it was lovely to feel welcome with teenagers and dogs. The location of Oystercatchers was great being able to walk down to the beach, walk to the station to catch the steam train and walk to the local pub which served very good food, but do book in advance. Holt Country Park is lovely for an afternoon out. Sheringham is very close with a good supermarket, fish and chips, a great leisure pool for the kids and a great place for a day out. With regards to making the booking and dealing with the owners I received a quick and efficient service. I would recommend this accommodation to any family.

Oystercatchers

  • 5 of 5

Oystercatchers was the perfect base for our holiday.

It is comfortable and well appointed, and the view from the lounge across to the windmill is so relaxing. The conservatory feels to be part of the bungalow rather than being an add-on; it also catches the sun in the morning more than later on, meaning that it is a pleasant temperature for sitting in for most times of the day. It is surprising to find such generous bedroom sizes in a holiday let. Our only minor criticism is that the shape of the lounge element of the lounge-diner is long and narrow, making it difficult to create a cosy atmosphere.

Oystercatchers is in a great location for exploring both the north Norfolk coast and the towns and countryside inland, provided you have a car. If not, as long as the railway is running then there is still the opportunity to at least explore Holt and Sheringham. For those with dogs there is good walking from the door, and lots of variety if you are prepared to travel. We discovered Holcombe Beach this year – ideal for dog walking, and also for making you realise just how varied and stunning the UK can be.

Be wary of the Pheasant hotel on the edge of Weybourne. When we were last in the area a couple of years ago we had a fantastic Sunday lunch there in very pleasant surroundings. It appears to have changed hands since then and is now catering for the commercial market. Prices have doubled, and our impression is that they are no longer interested in catering for a local or casual market.

In 25 years of marriage we have taken close on 100 self catering holidays in the UK. Oystercatchers is up there amongst the best.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your review - I'm glad you had a lovely relaxing time and enjoyed the wonderful view. I too love the conservatory and like to eat my breakfast in there at any time of the year. I wonder if you have any suggestions on how we could make the lounge more "cosy" - I always think of it as airy and spacious, but I can see what you mean, it could feel a bit cavernous! All the best, Valerie and Nick

From the Owner

We love the welcoming and lively atmosphere in Weybourne. We love sitting and watching the world go by at Bunteas, where we always get a warm greeting and lovely food. The excellent friendly local shop meets all our needs for general supplies and also provides tasty snacks and drinks. The service at the Ship Inn is always wonderful and it is no surprise that people travel miles for the delicious food. We get a real mix of different people in the village, with visitors coming to Weybourne to birdwatch, walk the coastal path, enjoy a trip on the Poppy Line, walk their dogs, or enjoy the beach, as well as the friendly village residents create a vibrant atmosphere. Oystercatchers has a wonderful homely atmosphere, and we love the bungalow's elevated location in the quiet street, with the beautiful view of the windmill.
