Cottage near Gaucin, Andalucia, Spain - Peaceful Rural Location, Yet 20 Mins From Gaucin Town And The Coast
The finca house is a sympathetically restored country cottage on the Rio Genal. The walls are original - 3 feet thick - as are the roof timbers, while riverine bamboos give old-style insulation. There is a wood-burner stove for chilly evenings. While the house is small there is a large amount of outdoor space under the imposing pergola and on the patio. Shade is provided by three mature eucalyptus. There are fantastic mountain views from the spacious terrace, with a flourishing orange grove below. (No need to buy oranges when they are in season here!)

About the Owner
My wife Julie and I came to live by the Rio Genal, near Gaucin, in 2010 having bought a distressed finca (little farm) some years before. Having lived in half a dozen different countries - and being obliged continually to move on to my next assignment - it is great to be permanently in such a delightful environment. We love the wild open spaces around Gaucin and the numerous walks that are available. So do our two dogs! Nature has blessed this place (once we counted over 50 Griffon Vultures whirling overhead), while fossils abound in the limestone rocks. Our four children enjoy the peace and tranquillity of nature and the innumerable walks. We hope the grandchildren will as well!

What we loved here was the sense of space and the unhurried, undemanding atmosphere. We felt welcomed and at home. Nick and Julie were kind, thoughtful and good humored hosts. Every day Julie brought us different treats - vegetables, fruits and wild mushrooms. We loved swimming (with the frogs), sitting out by candlelight listening to the valley come alive in the dark, watching the moon shining on the Crestellina mountain. This is a good place to sit on the terrace, even when it rained we couldn't tear ourselves away from the dramatic views and preferred to be outside. We appreciated the sense of style, the hand-made pottery and artistic down-home touches. Enjoyed exploring the area too, between here and Ronda is such amazing country. The views down to the sea and across to Africa are exciting. A lovely holiday and we hope to return, maybe we'll stay in the grad, big house next time.
From the moment we met well-travelled and informed owners Nick and Julie and their beautiful old dog Tilly, we felt as if we had come home rather than gone away. The little cottage with it's beautiful terrace, was so private, set in the mountains in acres of orchards that led down to the river with the most amazing mountain views. The cottage, particularly the pale beamed bedroom and bathroom, was so special and just couldn't have been more romantic. We spent our all too short time there swimming in the pool, relaxing on our terrace and having dinner listening to music on the old farmhouse table in candlelight, beneath the moon and stars. It is not luxury....you really feel the generations from ages past, particularly in the kitchen and the downstairs sitting room, where the owners family photographs and antiques from their lives working in distant corners of the globe, add even more to the atmosphere. There is simple gas cooker and larder filled with homemade marmalade and other goodies which we were welcome to help ourselves too and it was very hard to tear ourselves away but we did at the owners invitation and thought the village of Gaucin extremely pretty with its narrow, winding streets, restaurants, castle and those views! Would we return? Yes, already booked!... And so did the family staying in the larger finca across the orchard, which was also amazing and should be in a magazine. The owners could not have been more welcoming and are very proud of what they have achieved... and so they should be.
A LITTLE BIT OF HEAVEN
A fabulous 2 week taste of Rustic Spain! A little off the beaten track but we wanted a peaceful location where we could totally chill. We picked oranges from the trees in the orchard and squeezed our own juice - the lemons were perfect for the G&T's! Still close to beaches, bars & restaurants and a lovely little Marina in Duquesa where you can watch the world go by. The horizon pool had a view to die for and the walks & wildlife are a plenty. The finca was perfect for 2 with loads of space & facilities to cook a meal and plenty of outdoor areas to enjoy the vista in the shade. The owners live on site and were always on hand to provide information & advice and were very approachable & friendly. Visit Gaucin for the experience and Caseres for a bit of historic culture. If you are looking for a holiday in the midst of all the action with shiny new facilities & a nightlife in the hustle & bustle, this is not for you. If you are looking for a rural retreat in rustic Spain and to explore new experiences and sights, set within beautiful scenery - then give this one a try!
This cottage finca is delightful, charming and very comfortable. The indoor and outdoor space blend themselves to whatever the weather!
The view is very beautiful of the mountains and lush countryside!!
My daughter and I had a lovely relaxed week here and totally relaxed and unwound and I would recommend it for anyone who wants peace and tranquility. Lovely views to paint and lovely space to practice yoga!!!

“We were holidaying in Andalucia and stopped for lunch by the Rio Genal - then explored the finca opposite which fortuitously was for sale! Seven years later I retired and we moved to Spain, to begin the long task of restoring property. Finca Huerta Miranda is quiet, rural, beautiful and productive. The views are a continual source of pleasure; and the walks from the house are excellent. Julie is a keen gardener and we are largely self-sufficient. Guests are welcome to share the salads! Yet we are close to Gaucin itself - 20 mins up the hill - and similarly to the coast (supermarkets, beaches, entertainment)”
