17th Century Thatched Cottage In The Heart Of Rural England, Sleeps 6, Free Wifi

Overview

Property

Updated: 24-Oct-2016
Cottage in Helpston, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England - Village Location, Walking Distance Of Country Pub-Restaurant, 2 Miles To Burghley House

This is a comfortable 17th century thatched stone cottage with every amenity. Helpston has a great local country pub surrounded by other small villages of character with their own history and great pubs too. This cottage is in the centre of the village, in the shadow of the 14th century St Botolph's church. Low ceilings in some parts. The village is famous for its most famous son the eighteenth century "Peasant poet" John Clare. There is an annual John Clare festival in July.

The cottage comprises a large ground floor set out in open plan lounge and TV area with inglenook fireplace and log-burning fire. Low ceilings. Double sofa bed. Hifi. Large satellite TV with SKY, including SKY Sports. DVD collection.

Free Times and Sunday Times newspapers delivered daily.

There is a separate spacious kitchen and 10 seater dining area with French windows onto the garden.

Ground floor WC/shower.

Other than single step from lounge to kitchen, the ground floor is on one level.

Upstairs 2 double bedrooms with bathroom/shower and WC. Views across to village church.

Double sofa bed in lounge.

We have a sunny secluded garden with patio set and sun loungers.

There is private parking for 2 cars 30 metres from the cottage. Parking on the road outside the house is not recommended as this is a rural area with broad farm vehicles from the nearby farm occasionally needing to navigate the narrow roads.

Feedback from visitors,

Ray, November 2013, "Stayed for 3 weeks. Home away from home. Everything in the house works perfectly. Really fantastic stay".

Tammie, February 2014, "Had the perfect English experience staying at Vine Cottage. It's so blissfully quiet, the village is gorgeous and the local pub is friendly. We found this a perfect base for touring all the neighbouring counties. Local pub, The Bluebell, made us feel part of the village. Sorry to be leaving".

Debbie, April 2014, "We have had an excellent stay and have loved the peace and quiet of the village. The cottage is one of the prettiest I have stayed in and we certainly had all we needed. Didn't see half th local area we intended, we were happy enough here in the garden and Dave enjoyed the big telly".

Home from home - beautiful & well appointed.

  • 4 of 5

As advertised. Well looked after, clean and easy to relax in. 6 foot ceiling a challenge in the lounge but no big deal really. Owner is polite, informative and supported by neighbours in his absence.

The village is beautiful and very welcoming but then so is the garden, which is difficult to leave.

If you're looking for a relax in comfort with essentials close at hand and eateries and attractions a 20 min drive at most - this is for you.

Charming cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Vine Cottage for 10 days. Helpston is a picturesque village very close to many places of interest. The charming thatched cottage had everything we needed. It has a nice modern kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. We loved having use of the garden with it's many colourful plants. We could have breakfast in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening.

Will the owner also supplied us with wood for the fire which we needed on some nights when the temperature dropped. We enjoyed the large screen TV and the wifi.

The bedrooms were of a good size and the beds very comfortable.

We enjoyed our short stay and were sorry to leave. We would certainly stay at Vine Cottage again if we holiday in that part of the world again.

Review from Thane P 30 October 2015:-

"We have been having a lovely time here in Vine Cottage. I've been so impressed that everything has been so well thought through even to having the fire laid ready for our first evening. Thank you, the cottage is so warm and cosy that we've only lit the fire once."

Facilities

From the Owner

Vine Cottage has that English country cottage feel with low ceilings, Inglenook fireplace and cottage garden. At the same time it has every amenity. This is my home for much of the year, so I share it with you as that rather than a bland holiday letting.
