About Penny Thompson

I am the sole owner of this delightful little holiday cottage and take great care to ensure that Little Bothy is well presented and offers a comfortable and enjoyable place for its guests. I no longer work full time but do a bit of this and a bit of that, which includes teaching Making Loveliness from the Garden, writing and marrying people.

Penny Thompson purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Penny Thompson chose Leominster

I moved to this area 9 years ago, I love it here, the village and Tenbury Wells are both really friendly places. I love being able to walk into Tenbury for shopping a coffee and a chat. There is easy access to some fabulous places as we are right on the borders of Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Ludlow, Herefordshires black and white house trail, the Clun Valley, lots of National Trust properties to name just a few

Lyme Cottage continues to be my home and is occasionally invaded by very well behaved grandchildren.

What makes this cottage unique

The best things about Little Bothy (according to the guest book anyway) are

Being within walking distance to a fabulous dog friendly pub that serve great beers and fab food. (I like it there too)

The best Indian Restaurant in Tenbury Wells, (also can be walked to)

The spacious gardens and orchard especially the gin and tonic bench, perfect for watching the sun go down

Its easy access to so much of the lovely British countryside (and even parts of Wales.)

Its home made jam

Its welcome basket of goodies and its enormous breakfast baskets and supper platters filled with local food.

Notes on accommodation: Built in 1867 for the District Nurse Lyme Cottage has a unique atmosphere and provides a perfect place to relax and unwind. Little Bothy was created in 2012 by extending the original small bothy, built at the same time in which we believe may have been used by the nurse possibly to treat her patients in the very early days. The extension is light and airy with a vaulted ceiling and views on two sides into the garden in which is sits. Access to the bedroom is via its original low door which may require guest to 'duck'. Outside: Little Bothy has its own small patio directly outside the sitting room door. Further seating areas are available within the garden which extend out into the surrounding fields. Mostly laid to grass but with plenty of flower beds, a newly planted herb garden and a small orchard. The garden provides a perfect place to relax, watch the butterflies & birds, eat wild strawberries (in season) or to enjoy an aperitif' as the sun sinks. Guests are welcome to pick fruit, herbs and vegetables for their own consumption from the veggie patch and orchard. Utility Room: There is no washing machine, however there is a launderette in nearby Tenbury Wells and washing will be done for you at Lyme Cottage for a small charge. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen, duvets & towels are included. The kitchen has plenty of cloths and table linen. Little Bothy is fully serviced after every occupancy. Mid occupancy clean & linen change after 1 wk for longer visits is included, others by arrangement. Other: Constant hot water, central heating and wood for the log burner are all included in the price - there are no hidden extras with this property.

Lovely clean and cosy cottage with more than enough room for two. Lovely wood burner for chilly evenings. Ideal location for visiting the beautiful surrounding villages and towns.

Penny was very welcoming and the home made jam was lovely and very much appreciated.

A Rural Peaceful Haven

  • 5 of 5

This was our first stay at the Little Bothy but it definitely won't be our last! already booked for a visit in September, it was beautifully renivated and cosy with the wood burner, the welcome hamper left by Penny was full of local produce. comfy bed with crisp linen and a nice ensuite shower/wc. The garden is very private and our two dogs loved it too. So nice to find somewhere that allows well behaved dogs! The little Bothy is ideally situated as a base to explore the local towns of Tenbury Wells, Ludlow and Leominster. A true country cottage experience.

The Little Bothy & Tenbury Wells

  • 4 of 5

The little Bothy is a separate build in the property boundary of the Owner. Suitably priced for what you get. Penny the Owner, is a lovely woman who makes you feel at home and is there if you need to ask any questions. It is just outside of Tenbury Wells, a small market town with its fair share of cafes and Pubs. The best pub being the Rose & Crown, about a 10 minute walk from Little Bothy. Although it is overshadowed by a factory, please don't let that put you off, you must go in kid you like your food and your real ale. A haven for Dog walkers too
