Two Bedroom Cottage in St Monans, Fife, Scotland - Ideally Located For Coastal Walks, Golf And Foodie Activities.

The East Neuk of Fife stretches from St Andrews down a coastline peppered with small villages, full of character, which face across The Firth of Forth to East Lothian on the opposite side. A jumble of quaint colourful houses lead down narrow winding streets to line the harbours and rocky shores and their distinctive crow-stepped gables, fore stairs and red pantiles preserve the impression of their time as fishing villages that were totally dedicated to the sea. St Monans itself became one of Scotland's busiest fishing ports for many years but, from the mid 1800's the fleet dwindled and the village had to rely less on fishing and more on its heritage, capitalising on its preserved architecture and waterfront (that is still very much a working harbour today). The Neuk has an open plan living/dining/kitchen on the ground floor. Stairs lead to the shower-room and bedroom. The top floor provides the 2nd bedroom. The cottage is set back from the road providing an outdoor space for sitting.

We had a pretty good idea that we were going to enjoy our time at The Neuk! The cottage itself was stunning and perfectly laid out. Everything you would need and more! Steven ensured that everything was seen to prior to arrival and all we had to do was turn up and enjoy the fabulous cottage and the tranquil surroundings. We can't wait to head back. A true delight and a very beautiful jewel in the crown of this lovely part of Scotland.

Very easy to book with good, prompt communication with Steven the owner.

The cottage is well situated in the village and the décor and furnishings are of exceptional quality. The beds were so very comfortable I wanted to take them home with me.

Lovely cottage in good central location.

Good communication from Steven on booking, also checked everything was ok during our stay.

Lovely cottage, quality furnishings and everything you need is provide. Very clean, stylish decor, very comfortable bed, quality towels, cosy sitting room. great shower.

We enjoyed the location as it is on the Fife Coastal Trail (great walks), so visiting the other fishing villages was very interesting and enjoyable.

St Monans is only a short drive from St Andrews which is well worth visiting.

Good meal to be had at the Haven Cellardyke.

We would very much recommend this property and location.

Fantastic cottage in a lovely village!

This was a great holiday and fantastic experience from start to finish.

Steven was always polite and helpful in his correspondence and we set off for St Monans on a sunny day. The cottage was very easy to find and centrally located and after collecting the keys we made ourselves comfortable.

The cottage is very well appointed and very nicely renovated. The main living area has enough space for 4 and was thankfully cool in the summer heat. We stayed here for three nights and loved the place. St Monans is a lovely, quiet harbour village and has some great places to eat and relax.

The bedrooms were comfy and well appointed and we had no issues to report.

Would definitely stay here again and the bonus of this cottage is that it's dog friendly and a lovely walk to Elie one way or Pittenweem the other.

Ideal cottage full of detail

From making the initial enquiry to closing the door and dropping off the keys this was a great experience. We booked this cottage to go to the Pittenweem Art Festival and to meet up with old friends in Fife for the day. It served us well in both respects, an easy walk along the coastal path and back on a beautiful sunny morning took us to Pittenweem and there was adequate crockery etc. to enable 6 of us to sit down to a home cooked meal in the evening. Ideally situated for the harbour and across the street from the local post office/shop that opens early till late with a great stock of produce. The cottage itself was warm, bright and very clean. The bed was very comfy, towels soft and endless hot water. Locally Crail and Elie on a windy morning will blow away the excess of the night before and Kellie Castle is worth a visit. Great cottage, fantastic location

We spent three nights in the cottage at the end of June and had a wonderful time. The cottage is cozy and very comfortable, the village is quaint and well preserved and the coastal walks well worth the effort.

Walked to Anstruther one day and to Elie the next. Had a fantastic lunch at the Ship Inn and saw lots of seals basking on the rocks along the way. Highly recommended.

Comfortable and homely stay

Just returned from a stay in Scotland starting with 3 nights in this lovely quaint cottage in St Monan's. The cottage is very tastefully renovated and the beds extremely comfortable affording a good nights sleep after lovely walks between the fishing villages along the coast. The open fire provided cosy warmth on colder evenings but we were fortunate with the weather, enjoying the coastal path to Crail. We enjoyed eating at East Pier Smoke House and the famous fish and chips at Anstruther. All the locals in St Monan's were welcoming and the shop was handy and well stocked. A very pleasant stay.

The harbour is a one minute walk from the property and rocky beaches 5 minutes walk away. A large sandy beach is 2 miles from the cottage in Elie, you can walk there easily along the coastal path or drive in 5 minutes.


Edinburgh Airport is 35 miles away and Kirkaldy train station is 20 miles away with regular trains to Edinburgh, St Andrews and beyond.


St Andrews 12 miles. Edinburgh 45 miles. Perth 40 miles.

Further Details:

There is a great shop and Post Office 100 yards from the cottage, open 6am till 8pm daily and 6pm Sunday, providing local baked goods, newspapers, wine and great smoked fish amongst everything else you could possibly need.

There are two very good restaurants in the village - both serve locally caught fish. The East Pier Smokehouse opens seasonally and is amazing - James smokes his own fish and then serves it and dressed crab, mackerel and lobster with chips and salad in a box! For more formal dining 16 West End is an award-winning fish restaurant with chef Craig Millar in charge.

There is a pub in the village called the Mayview and other good pubs can be found locally. Elie has a great bake-shop and deli 2 miles away. One mile away there is a farm shop called Ardross selling vegetables and organic meat. Anstruther 5 miles away has a large Co-op supermarket (open 6am till 11pm daily) and many more local shops, pubs and restaurants including The Cellar, which now has a Michelin star.

Behind the cottage East Neuk Shellfish sell every shellfish you can imagine - daily availability is what the boats provide but Ronan will let you know what's on offer and is more than happy to deal with holidaymakers and trade customers alike.

There are tennis courts 2 miles away and an open air sea pool on the coast for the brave! Bikes and windsurfing kit can be hired in Elie.
