Stunning property in fabulous grounds
Booked as a suprise 40th birthday family gathering. Loved that all sixteen of us could fit in the dining room for the birthday dinner. Kitchen well equipped and spacious as were the bedrooms. Dog friendly too which is great! Hosts were brilliant. Highly recommended.

Brilliant place. For us it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience Photos undersell the space/facilities
The space is excellent for 16+, inside and out. Superbly arranged bathrooms and a real adventure feel with generously equipped kitchen as well as crockery for special occasions. All levels are relatively easily accessible even for people with mobility problems. Whereas the adults enjoyed the walks around the castle, our children (2-10) enjoyed the well attended gardens and lawns with football goals and toys/footballs. Host John was extremely helpful and generous with wood fuel, information and any sort of help. I cannot fault anything in our stay except it was too short.

Family get together
Colliston Castle was just perfect for our family holiday. Loads of room inside and out. Charming, comfortable and surprisingly cosy. AGA was great for warming croissants and pastries for breakfast. The hot tub and sauna were both used well. We've rebooked and looking forward to next year already

About the host

Hosted by John Lansley

Host profile image
We live in Scotland where we have renovated a castle for use as a holiday rental. We continue to improve it year on year. We have two grown up children and two beautiful grand daughters. We have always had dogs and although we have just lost our last one, we recognise how important it is for all the family to holiday together.

We love travelling and exploring new places, we became involved in holiday homes because of our own love for self catering accommodation and to try to provide that little bit extra or bit different. Each year we try to improve the houses as much for our benefit as for our guests, as our family and ourselves enjoy the house and surrounding area.

New walled garden, still in the early stages of planting but providing a superbly sheltered spot. New estate fencing has been erected to replace the old Victoria fencing that was bent down and broken by livestock.

Why they chose this property

we had been overseas on and off for 10 years and John has now retired and we wanted a new project and this one came along.

we fell in love with the area and the history of the castle

What makes this property unique

It is secluded, away from the noise of traffic yet close enough to Arbroath for supermarkets, bars and restaurants. The coastline is only 4 miles away with Lunan Bay and Elliot sands. The Glens are within easy access and the highlands just a skip away
