Colombage House in Neuville sur Touques, Orne, Normandy - Peaceful Rural Location Giving An Ideal Central Base For Exploring All Normandy Has To Offer

Tucked away on the outskirts of the little sleepy village of Neuville Sur Touques, on the Calavdos/Orne border in Normandy, just 8km south of Vimoutiers is "La Petite Maison". A typical totally detached Normandy colombage house with the oldest part being over 200 years old, with lots of characteristic wooden beams throughout. It sleeps 8 comfortably with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and has all the amenities you could need, including wi-fi and all other modern comforts. Set in 2500m2 of secluded lawn garden, that contains many fruit trees, an enclosed children’s play area, a 10ft trampoline and a long private gated driveway. It has beautiful views over farmland and countryside, with local woods all around...the perfect way to relax in what is a peaceful and tranquil environment. A pretty house with lots of character and plenty of space for a large family or a group of friends to chill out and relax in, and is available to rent all year round. About Kevin Reardon

After more than 20 years of holidaying in Normandy and staying in other peoples gites along the way, we have finally taken the plunge and bought our own. Having spent so many years doing this, we feel that we know exactly what people expect, not just with the Gite itself but also from the experience of a Gite holiday.

Our aim in time is to live here permentantly ourselves, but untill we do, we want to share our home with others, not only so you can enjoy the same experiences we have had ourselves over the years, but to also get to explore the real France and enjoy the many things it has to offer.

We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do.

Kevin Reardon purchased this house in 2013

Why Kevin Reardon chose Orne

Location is key to a good Gite holiday and we feel where we are, it could not be better placed to explore all that Normandy has to offer. Close enough to get to from most of the ferry ports and centrally located to be within travelling distance of the many points of interest Normandy has to offer.

The house itself is perfectly located in a beautiful rural location, giving peace and quiet when you want it, but having enough going on around you so you dont feel isolated. Ideal for both familiy holidays, or just chilling with a group of friends, where you can do as much, or as little as you please. Children have their own safe play area where they can tire themselves out whilst you relax and enjoy your holiday.......possibly with your feet up and a glass of wine on the go !

What makes this house unique

The house is very easy to find, and to get to, and within 10 minutes of 2 towns with all the ammenities you could possibly need.

It has everything you would need for a family holiday, for adults and kids alike, which is important to us. There is a safe kids play area that will keep the young ones entertained, and a 10 ft trampoline should they still have some energy left to use up.

With all the bedrooms well spread out over the house each person will get their privacy if required, but it also has commiunial areas where everybody can be together for family fun

A beautiful house in stunning location

  • 5 of 5

La Petite Maison is a stunning house in a beautiful and tranquil location. Our family had a perfect two week stay. I have no criticism to make. The house has everything you could possibly need. The owners are incredibly professional and have been a pleasure to deal with. Would highly recommend it.

Beyond expectations

  • 5 of 5

We loved the property. Beautiful exterior, beautiful interior, everything working as expected, amazing garden and stuffed with things to do. We visited with 4 adults and 2 young kids (< 3 years old). With a trampoline, playground, garden, air-inflated swimming pool, games, books, barbeque, dvds it was very comfortable staying at this property. Even during some of the hot days there was an air-blower to keep the sleeping rooms a bit cool. It really feels like the owners go all the way to give you a great experience and we are very thankful we were allowed to stay here.

The property is well-situated in the center of Normandy which means a lot of interesting places to visit are within reach. However, none of these places are really close, expect to travel at least 45 min for the more interesting places (Falaise, Caen, Rouen, D-day memorials, or children activities like the zoo or Festyland). We knew this was the case so didn't mind, and the driving is pretty easy in the area.

The nearby town of Vimoutiers has everything you need (bakery, butcher, superstores, gas stations and a lovely center) and is about 10 min drive away.

One thing we struggled with was finding nice areas for extended hiking / walking. Although there are some natural areas pretty close we couldn't find a lot of information online or in leaflets. We did find a really nice place for walking though in the end which is La Roche D'oetre but that was about 1 hr drive away.

All in all the place itself was really amazing, you are guaranteed to have a great time if you decide to stay at this property

Satisfied customers

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed two weeks with our four young children in this delightful gite with beautiful views over the surrounding Normandy countryside. It is very well appointed inside (lots of useful bits and pieces), comfortably furnished and plenty of interesting character. The large, well-maintained garden, provided ample space for the children to expend energy and make as much noise as they liked, and there was plenty of garden furniture for the adults to relax on. The separate play area with swings etc was enjoyed by our youngest (3 and 6y) and there was an Aladdin's cave of outdoor entertainment in the garden shed enjoyed by adults and children alike. The trampoline was another winner!

We found plenty to do on our days out within an hour or so's drive - chateau, cheese factory, zoo, beach, castle.

We've stayed in alot of gites over the years and would happily return to this one.

La Petite Maison

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 8 retirees spending a week of sightseeing in Normandy and usually eating a substantial lunch at restaurants and bistros in the surrounding area, including Argentan, Sees, Gace, Falaise, Lisieux, Orbec and Honfleur. We were delighted first with the excellent communication and direction we received from the English owners and found the house easily. The price was very good but of course it was the low season when properties in the north are least popular. The house is charming and comfortable and was accurately described beforehand. Since it is in deep country, every day saw us drive a good distance, but with two cars we found that quite acceptable. In the evenings we enjoyed group suppers in the delightful kitchen/dining room and often stayed at the table enjoying a glass or two afterwards. There were two log-burning stoves, which were used throughout and it was well worth paying for a good supply of logs. One of the burners is in a very comfortable lounge (an feature which is seldom found in houses with French owners). The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and even though one room does not have an en-suite bathroom, there is easy access to the separate bathroom as well as the other en-suites. There is an extensive garden, both with plenty of room for children to play in warmer weather and for sitting and eating outdoors and there was enough parking space for about 3 cars. We would certainly recommend the property to people of a similar age to ourselves as well as to young families who were looking for a restful holiday in a safe area with enough room for children to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful countryside. We were pleased too that we paid for cleaning by a local lady after we left the house since it would have been a considerable chore on the last day. We were also very impressed and grateful to the owners some time later when some lost property was returned safely to us. Many thanks for a good experience all round.

great new year

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic house with plenty of space and everything you need. And all the appliances worked. Little touches such as soaps in each bathroom and tea and coffee already there it was like a home from home. Even down to the Xmas decks throughout was a lovely touch. The house was well positioned to explore and we had a lovely walk in the forest around the house on new years day to walk off dinner and the champagne. Great place for a winter retreat. We will be going back. Kevin and Sarah the owners are really efficient and Leah is on hand locally with great knowledge to answer any questions. The WiFi worked a treat so kept our teenager happy as well as the older ones who got new tablets for Xmas!

Great Christmas in Normandy!

  • 5 of 5

From first contact with Kevin and Sarah, the owners we had a good feeling about La Petite Maison in Normandy. They were extremely helpful and accommodating from the start.

The gite was decorated for Christmas throughout which was lovely and very inviting. The location of the gite was remote but in a beautiful part of Normandy. The directions given made it easy to find.

The gite was extremely well equipped, nothing was needed to make a Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Dinner and it was beautiful and very warm and welcoming. Unfortunately we did not meet up with their local representative due to delays at the airport but she kept in touch via texts.

There was plenty of games, dvds and books provided for entertainment along with a play park for younger visitors. I believe there was also deckchairs and tables along with a large paddling pool, this we didn't require being December! There is plenty of land around the gite which I am sure would be in full use in warmer weather.

There was a basket full of information leaflets and guide books, along with plenty of French dictionaries and phrasebooks. The owners also left us cider, cheese and some Christmas crackers which was great, and very thoughtful.

La Petite Maison is a great base for exploring Normandy. Be prepared for a lot of driving though, this was not too bad as the roads were very quiet and our satnav did take us through some very small villages which was great for photographs. Bayeaux is approximately 1.5 hours drive away and Arromanches around 1.75 hours drive. We thought we could do this in one day but did not appreciate how long Arromanches would take. It is a long drive but well worth it. There are several towns and villages between 10 and 30 minutes drive, one of them being Camembert.

I would definitely recommend La Petite Maison to anyone who would like to visit Normandy, a great gite, a great base and great owners. We will be back again!!
