Set in a beautiful, tranquil location in one of the sunniest regions of France, Les Jardins des Arts provides the perfect place to relax completely, unwind and re-discover the simple pleasures of stunning sunsets and magical night skies. A warm welcome awaits you from your British hosts, Ray and Lynne Shuell who ensure the accommodation is maintained to a very high standard of cleanliness and comfort. Les Jardins des Arts was established in 2007 since when Ray and Lynne have welcomed hundreds of guests and they are on hand to ensure you have everything you need for the perfect holiday.
Ray & Lynne Shuell purchased this cottage in 2007
We bought the property mainly due to the location in one of the sunniest regions of France, but also for the peaceful ambience of the surrounding gentle countryside. A perfect place for guests to relax, unwind and re-discover the simple pleasures of stunning sunsets and magical night skies.
The property is conveniently located for ease of access to several local towns and famous tourist attractions. Ray is a professional artist who gives art classes to local people and also offers courses, half day or day classes to guests at Les Jardins des Arts
Excellent introduction to an area of France we didn't know. Easy drive from San Malo. Ray and Lynne so welcoming. Bertie, our dog, enjoyed the company of Scruff and Bella. The children enjoyed the pool and weather. Lots of fun, thanks!
My two teenage daughters and I had a lovely holiday in the Cottage in July. My daughters especially appreciated the WIFI and the pool. Our hosts, Ray and Lynne, were welcoming and extremely helpful, recommending places to go and places to eat. The garden is beautiful with plenty of space for young kids to run around and play. I would have no hesitation in recommending this as a holiday destination to my friends.
Lynne and Ray were brilliant hosts and made sure we had everything we needed including a very welcome meal on our arrival. Our 2 year old was catered for well and enjoyed running around and exploring in the beautiful garden. We'll definitely be back.
The property was well equipped with sun loungers ,outside table and chairs . Inside also well equipped including full size cooker ,Hosts most helpful nothing was too much trouble ,they even offer a shopping service on arrival .Pool area was especially well done with a fenced area for safety . Really tranquil and very enjoyable.
We have been staying at Lynne & Ray's cottages since 2009 and it always feels like a home from home, accept with a far better climate! We love staying that much that we have brought other members of the family over and rented out both cottages, which selfishly meant we had the whole place to ourselves and Ray & Lynne.
This was our 5th time and it was as good as the last! The cottages are always clean, beds comfortable and sufficient for our needs. The large grounds and quiet location is a great place for our young family and this accords them a bit of independence. The pool is of course a great asset and the kids are hard to prise out once they're in! When not in the pool, the kids like nothing more than mucking about with the resident dogs Bella & Scruffy, both very cute and obedient, almost like our youngest!
The kids have both enjoyed Ray & Lynnes excellent art tuition and it gives Mum & Dad the morning off as well! Josh our son also enjoyed some impromptu guitar jamming and tuition from the Grand Master Ray as well and has returned with some new playing styles to boot, thanks Ray!
The area boasts some of the flattest roads so absolutely ideal for our youngest cycling enthusiast leading to the least amount of moaning ever! The local town of Chef Boutonne provides all you need both in food and wine and local farmers markets operate in different local towns all week offering a wide variety of locally made produce. Both Ruffec and Melle markets are great
The department of Deux-Sevres is a fabulous location and the area offers so much to see and do throughout the region of Poitou Charentes. For the more adventurous, there is canoeing near Ruffec which we tried out this year or if you fancy a drive, Futuroscope is about an hour up the road and offers some great interactive entertainment but it's a bit pricey. A great place to visit and gets some food is Verteuil-sur-Charente, absolutely stunning place on the river with a couple of great restaurants, we ate in Café Portebleue, very good food! If you like Apes/Chimanzees and Gorillas, then a day out in the Vallee du Singe should be on your list of things to do, we've been 3 times over the years and love it.
Ray and Lynnes cottages make a really great base to explore the area from and return to relax.
I couldn't recommend the cottages more highly, they are affordable, comfortable and offer great facilities plus Ray and Lynne are some of life's loveliest people to boot!
A lovely little cottage in a quiet village with good access to local towns, amenities and attractions. The property is clean with all the facilities needed for a comfortable stay. Nice pool and gardens. The owners, Lynne and Ray, are really friendly and helpful.
The cottage was lovely, very clean and equipped with everything we could possibly have wanted. The pool was perfect for our son and the gardens were enjoyed by us all and our dog.
Lynne & Ray were fantastic hosts, always on hand to help in anyway, from tips on dog walks to booking the vet appointment for our dogs return to the UK.
Our son had an afternoon one-to-one art lesson with Ray and learnt so much about drawing techniques.
Wonderful place and lovely people, would recommend to anyone wishing to have a relaxing and peaceful holiday.
