About the Owner

We renovated Glan-y-morfa in 2012/2013. It had always been my husband's family's holiday home when they were growing up and his parents finally retired there when they left home. His mother lived there until recently, but found the upkeep too hard so now lives nearby. Mark's brother and sister-in-law also live near by, so we still have strong ties to the area. It has been true labour of love from 200 miles away in London, but we love coming up to stay when ever we can. Mark works in advertising and I used to, but now divide my time between photography and working part-time as a teaching assistant in a local primary school. Our daughter is now at university and also enjoys us all getting together at Glan-y-morfa.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Stunning farmhouse in idyllic surroundings

If you are looking for the perfect holiday retreat in peaceful and tranquil surroundings then this is the farmhouse to book. The owners have put an enormous amount of thought and effort into making this farmhouse a place that you will want to revisit year after year. The views from every window are breathtaking overlooking the River Dyfi. I stayed with my wife, our two children and my parents and two dogs and there was something to appeal to everyone. The children especially enjoyed the football table in the games room. There is no need to worry about forgetting to take items with you as this farmhouse is well equipped and there Is nothing you could ask for that they haven't already supplied. We enjoyed our long weekend stay immensely and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it."

"What a lovely few days we had at Glan-y-morfa! Having looked at the website my expectations were high, and yet I was still completely delighted by the cottage"

Old world charm

  • 5 of 5

Glan y Morfa is quietly situated in farmland with wonderful views of the Dyfi estuary. It is very comfortable and you feel right at home as soon as you enter. The kitchen is well equipped- once we got the hang of the range cooker. It worked its magic and we felt rested and rejuvenated by the end of our stay.

The perfect family home

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our family holiday this year. We managed to have 3 generations and 2 dogs, who all had enough space for themselves! The house was very well equipped with all home comforts. The bumpy ride through the fields to get there made us feel off the beaten track and away from things - just what we wanted! We would definitely come back.

Unspoilt, beautiful, just as it should be!

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is in a picturesque setting in a beautiful part of Wales. The directions made it easy to find, but the remoteness makes it really special. We loved walking, exploring and watching the birds (listening to the dawn chorus was just amazing), and our children loved it. We spent a great day at the beach in Aberdyfi, and went up Cader Idris. The immediate area is also good to explore, and we had a couple of great BBQs. The house itself is really comfortable and well laid out, especially the kitchen. The only reason we've given four stars and not five is that there was just one toilet roll in each bathroom (ie no spares at all) and 3 dishwasher tablets - so come prepared. However the welcome pack of bread eggs, milk and a bottle of wine was really appreciated especially as we were arriving on a bank holiday. All in all a wonderful place and we'd love to come back.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you enjoyed your holiday and it sounds like you had a lovely relaxing break. We always appreciate feedback, so thank you for your kind review. We are sorry that you were expecting some additional supplies for your week. The house is let on a self catering basis, but we do try to provide enough basic items to help our guests for their first few days in addition to the complimentary welcome pack. We have always made a point of keeping store cupboard basics of herbs, spices, pasta, lentils, tea, stock cubes, cling film, washing up liquid, etc for our guests to use freely because we know how frustrating it is when you have to buy everything to make a family meal. However , we are also aware that we need to keep our rates reasonable and hope that that guests appreciate that we cannot supply all the consumables for a large group staying for a week or sometimes longer. We appreciate your comments and will speak to our house manager to ensure that we are providing enough for our guest's first few days so there is no immediate urgency for them to do a shop for basics. We look forward to seeing you again.

Charming and wonderfull views

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very charming and very well equipped. The gifts left for us were highly appreciated also all the little pots of herbs and food items which one could easily forget. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather and were able to eat outside. On arrival we decided to rename the cottage Five Gates (I know that there are only four) but after the long journey it seemed to go on forever but we soon got used to it. The peace and quiet was wonderful. We have been to this area of Wales before and are always stunned by the scenery. A really enjoyable weekend. Thank you,

We would most certainly recommend Glan y Morfa to our friends

An amazing cottage.

  • 5 of 5

We were amazed when we arrived at the cottage - the setting is absolutely stunning. The owners are very accommodating and we were delighted to find some simple supplies waiting for us. The cottage is in a fairly rural location but is near to several small towns or villages. The cottage is surrounded by an amazing landscape , we found lots of potential walks including forest, beach and hill walks. We stayed over Easter weekend it was a perfect size for 8 adults with three dogs, plenty of space and immaculately clean. Unfortunately we had some very poor weather (hailstone) but with a roaring log fire we felt comfortable within the cottage. This is a spacious cottage perfect for several couples, a large family or groups of friends. We would love to return.

clean, warm, cosy and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

Spend there Christmas with my family including children.

House was clean, warm, cosy and welcoming with excellent views down the hill over the marches and fields.

We very much enjoyed seating around the fire, drinking good wine, loughing and playing cards.

Looking forward to going back in spring, summer time.

Location

From the Owner

The house is in the most stunning location, overlooking the Dyfi Estuary. We wanted to make sure that it was still used when my mother-in-law moved out and also wanted to get it back to being loved and cared for. We have tried to keep the heart and soul of the house whilst also making it a lot more comfortable and accessible. It is surrounded by amazing views and farmland, but is also only 15 minutes from Aberdovey's beaches and the great market and shops in Machynlleth. The farm house is located down a well maintained farm track, so the only traffic you hear is the occasional farmer on his tractor. We love the area and all the fabulous walks around Cadir Idris and Dolgoch falls, the walks along the Dyfi Estuary, but most of all the peace and quiet and the views

Facilities

From the Owner

What makes Glan-y-morfa special to us are the views from every window. Whether it is winter or summer, they are always changing and just lift your spirits. When it gets chilly at night the Jotel open fire in the sitting room warms the house up beautifully. Although there is full central heating and underfloor heating in the kitchen and downstairs bathroom.
