About the property

Cottage in St. Lawrence, Ventnor, Isle of Wight, England - Converted From Village Inn. Perfect Base For Families Or Couples

Mole End is a delightful two-bedroom holiday cottage in the peaceful village of St. Lawrence near Ventnor on the South coast of the Isle of Wight, offering superior holiday accommodation for up to four people.

From its origins as a 19th century village inn, Mole End has been converted into a cosy home away from home. With its stunning sea views, comfy sitting room and welcoming kitchen, it's the perfect base for an island holiday, whether you’re a beach lover, walker, sailor, crazy-golfer or just looking for a few days away from the hurly-burly.

Nestling in the Undercliff, with its famed micro-climate, the cottage is perfectly located just a few minutes from Ventnor Botanic Gardens, the Isle of Wight Coastal Path, and pretty, secluded Steephill Cove.

Ventnor's bars and restaurants, offering everything from pub grub to fine dining, are just two miles away and you can reach all the tourist attractions on the island within half an hour.

About Lev Parikian

Lev Parikian purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Lev Parikian chose Whitwell

We've been coming to the Isle of Wight for many years and have always loved the feeling you get the moment you get on the ferry, as if you're leaving the cares of the world behind you.

In particular we found ourselves coming back time and again to the south of the island, the Undercliff, with its mixture of lush vegetation and rugged landscape, as well as wonderful beaches and great food for the whole family.

The area offers something for everyone, from adventure-park-mad kids (Blackgang Chine) to walkers (the Coastal Path is a couple of minutes away).

What makes this cottage unique

Mole End has already become our home away from home and we've taken great care to make it as welcoming as possible for our guests. A lot of the work was done by the previous owners, who paid great attention to detail when converting it from its former existence as part of the village pub.

The fantastic sea views from many parts of the property are an obvious feature – but turn your gaze inwards and there's great pleasure to be had there too, whether it's sitting round the kitchen table with a board game and a cup of coffee, lounging in the cosy sitting room or relaxing in a hot bath with a good book and a g&t.

We always have a relaxing time at Mole End, and we hope that our guests will too.

Fantastic house in beautiful position

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely home. The owners were very communicative and gave us fantastic instructions for the house and surrounding area. The house is bigger than the photos suggest. There is a small snug upstairs which we used as a third bedroom for our toddler (in his travel cot). The master bedroom and bathroom have stunning views. Downstairs there is a very well appointed kitchen and the sitting room is a great space to relax in. The owners left a lovely welcome food package which we really appreciated. We were able to walk to the pretty local beach and loved the village itself. We had a fantastic stay and would love to return.

Seaside property that delights beyond the photos

  • 5 of 5

Not only the property, but St Lawrence and this corner of the Isle of Wight deliver well beyond what we had expected. Both reasonably priced and well appointed, Mole End is a fantastic property to get away from it all.

There are some fabulous coastal walks surrounding the house, which as others have said, is much larger than the photos suggest, and the wider landscape is simply beautiful, combining the ruggedness of a cliff coast with secluded coves, with a manicured and matured Victorian-garden landscape of evergreen oaks, crumbly stone walls and lush temperate planting.

All mod-cons are provided, and all services are in easy reach. We stayed in the winter, and the cottage was incredibly cosy, but it would be glorious in the summer too.

Lev was ever available to answer queries promptly and efficiently. Definitely one to recommend.

A wonderful, relaxing place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We fell in love with this cottage as soon as we walked In through the door. Perfectly situated in a quiet location with amazing views and coastal walks only minutes away. Absolutely nothing negative to say about the experience and the owners obviously go to a lot of trouble to make their guests feel welcome and at home. It was our first visit to the Isle of Wight and I'm not sure why we haven't been before - we'll definitely be back!

The Perfect Place to Get Away.......

Christmas at Mole End was most enjoyable. The cottage is clean and well appointed and has a fantastic layout which afforded comfort and relaxation. Wonderful views of the sea from our bedroom and the bathroom. Great thought has gone into making this a holiday home with a view to comfort and relaxation. Mole End ticked all our boxes and we would certainly love to visit again.

Beautiful comfortable retreat in lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a short stay at this beautiful cottage. It is located in one of our favourite spots on the island, with easy access to a lovely coastal walk down to Steephill Cove and the views from the upstairs rooms and the outside garden/terrace are stunning. The cottage itself is really well equipped, extremely cosy and was very clean and well maintained.

The booking process was really easy and Lev, the owner, provided helpful and clear information regarding directions, the cottage itself and the surrounding area.

We'd happily return to Mole End and would heartily recommend it to anyone seeking a 'home from home' holiday cottage.

Further Details:

The Isle of Wight offers a wide variety of activities for everyone, whether you're an outdoorsy type or of a more sedentary inclination.

Families are especially well catered for, with adventure parks, beaches, a steam railway, zoos and wildlife parks, and crazy golf galore.

But it's not just for kids – the island has much to offer visitors of all ages. There are over 500 miles of footpaths – stroll down the road for a couple of minutes and you're on the 67-mile coastal path, or head inland for one of the many tranquil woodland or downs walks. Or go for a bike ride on the island's extensive network of cycle paths.

Maybe you prefer riding, birdwatching, fishing, water sports, paragliding, golf or even tree climbing — the island is a paradise for outdoor activity enthusiasts.

And for those with more gentle tastes there's Queen Victoria's residence Osborne House, Carisbrooke Castle, St. Catherine's lighthouse, Brading Roman villa, Godshill model village and much more.

When the day is done you'll want to eat – seafood is obviously on the menu (the hunt for the best crab on the island continues, with many worthy contenders), but whatever your tastes you'll find something that fits the bill, from family-friendly pubs to top-notch haute cuisine. And with the island's wealth of fresh produce, home cooking is also a delight.

In short, you won't run out of interesting and fun things to do. We've been coming for years, and we've only just scraped the surface.
