Great location to stay for a family holiday...

  • 4 of 5

First I would like to take this opportunity to thank Margaret for her fantastic hospitality.

The first thing we noticed was that amazing view, just wow. Outstanding sea views and a great location for exploring the beautiful Cork coastline.

Roscarbery is a lovely little town with a well stocked local shop and great pubs and restaurants. Ronan's bar was our favourite for the hospitality and the food.

The colourful Clonakilty is just a short drive away and has supermarkets, shops and restaurants in abundance.

The coast is just amazing each corner is a new opportunity for exploration and for making memories.

The property is more than adequate for the price we paid to stay for a week. It has all the modern appliances required for a self catering holiday. The only criticism I have is that some of the furnishings may be a little tired but I feel that is reflected in the pricing and did not affect our overall stay in any way.

Overall our stay here was wonderful and I would definitely return with my family. Thank you

nice house, good location, suited for family of up to 5 people

  • 3 of 5

we enjoyed our stay, the weather was ok. Rosscarbery is a good location to discover the south west of Ireland between Cork and the Ring of Kerry. the place is very quiet and offers a nice view of the bay. Clonakilty is about 20 min driving distance. Pretty good restaurant in Rosscarbery too (i.e Market House). Car is a must to discover the area. No facilities for bikers (roads are pretty dangerous for bikers).

Gorgeous View

  • 4 of 5

The bungalow was elevated above Rosscarbery bay with beautiful views of the sea from the picture windows.

The house was close to Rosscarbery town which has a charming square with pubs, restaurants and shops.

Inside the house was as described, simple, fairly traditional furnishings and bathroom but comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and we made use of the wood burning stove to warm the room. Overall we enjoyed our stay and marvelled at the amazing views and skies on our daily walks by the sea.

Review of Stay in Rosscarbery

  • 3 of 5

I am a soft southerner from the UK, so what I say is from that perspective.

We were the last users of the house so there may have been plans to improve the service, but:

The bells at the front door did not work. This was a problem only for the Ronans when we were staying there.

There were two light bulbs that needed replacing, so it was unduly dark.

In the kitchen the freezer hadn’t been checked by the owner so that there were frozen chips on one shelf. There were cobwebs in some of the crockery cupboards, and where there were storage jars these hadn’t been cleaned out.

In the bedroom the hairdryer was so old that it produced a maximum of 400 watts. If you didn’t want to be all night drying your hair then take your own hairdryer.

We used the fires in the sitting room and in the kitchen/diner. The wood-burning stove in the kitchen produced a lot of heat, but it got cold very quickly when the fire went out. This suggests that there was little or no loft insulation (300 mm recommended) and no cavity wall insulation. The hot water pipes were unlagged so the water got cold quickly when the tap was switched on.

The oil boiler in the garage was old. The utility area includes an old cooker now not used. It would be an ideal place for a replacement boiler which would provide both hot water and heating.

There was no inventory.

Owner's Response: Re review in relation to our holiday home by Janet she is entitled to her opinion but it has be balanced and fair.in this review there seems to be no positives. I met her when she arrived and advised her if she encountered any problems that she could contact me as I live close by. The house has been totally upgraded during the past 4 years. New double glassed Windows New kitchen House reinsulated walls pumped insulation Attic insulation upgraded. All bedrooms upgraded including solid American red oak floors. New stove fitted in kitchen. The gas cooker in utility room is a back up in The event of a power failure. The oil boiler is regularly serviced and functions Efficiently The house is professionally cleaned after each client Vacates it. This is the first time we have encountered this type of review. The house is available to inspect without prior notice At anytime and lives up to its description and pictures on the website. It is disappointing to receive such a review.I will leave it to those of you who view the house to make up your own minds as to the fairness of this review. Margaret Ronan
