Nantcol overlooks the spectacular Rhinog mountains at the end of Cwm Nantcol. Ideal for families or just a couple wanting to enjoy the beauty and peace of the area. Sleeps 7 - 3 bedrooms - well equipped farmhouse kitchen + electric Aga. Large living room with 2 open fires.

About the Owner

Nantcol is owned by the Grant family who have lovingly restored this ancient house. It was found derelict in 1945. Every effort has been made to keep its character and yet bring it into the 21st century with an electric Aga and washing machines etc. The entire greater family simply love Nantcol and our guests make frequent return visits. We are now on 4 generations of families coming to this unique property.

Nantcol has been everything we hoped for and more. On opening the front door we found a wonderful interior with brasses, pictures. It is possibly one of the best equipped cottages in Snowdonia.

...to be somewhere so far removed from normal life, surrounded by mountains and silence and to walk endlessly.

We are lost in admiration of how the perfect get away from it all has been achieved.

The Welsh mountains were nothing new to me but Nantcol was. Crossing the threshold I had an enormous feeling of warmth and friendlinesss.

The remoteness of this house, the ruggedness of the scenery and the feeling of welcome on arrival makes this place magic.

Nantcol seems like of those fixed points in life which never seems to change.

The great beauty of the area is restorative after the rigours of every day life. The peace and tranquillity certainly makes one feel good to be alive. Although Nantcol is at the end of this hidden valley its only 5 miles from civilization. Closeby our miles of sandy beaches with safe swimming, historic castles and beautiful gardens to visit.

Coast/Beach:

The famous sandy beach of Mochras (Shell Island) is 5 miles down the valley.

There are many other numerous accessible beaches all along the coastline from Barmouth to Abersoch.

Travel:

A car is essential. The local village of Llanbedr is 5 miles away with good facilities for shopping. However many people go to Portmadog where there are large supermarkets.

Trains stop at Llanbedr. The nearest airport is either Manchester or Birmingham - both some 3 to 4 hours drive away.

Distances:

Llanbedr - 5 miles

Barmouth - 8 miles

Portmadog - 15 miles

Further Details:

Many local pubs in the area including the Victoria Inn in Llanbedr. The main town of Portmadog (some 15 miles away) has banks, chemists etc.

  • Booking Notes:
    All bookings are confirmed with a 50% deposit. This can be either by cheque or bank transfer. The balance will be required 6 weeks before departure.

    Changeover Day:
    Saturdays. However out of season we are prepared to consider other days.
    Long weekends (Friday pm to Monday am) are available out of season

    Notes on prices:

For those people whose lives are constantly being run by technology, Nantcol boasts no internet but only a landline. For many people this is an added bonus. Peace to read, contemplate, draw or just sit and take in the great splendour of the Rhinog mountains. This property is very special indeed.

Notes:

  • Outside: A little girl wrote in our visitors book ' I love Nantcol where the garden reaches to the sky'. The mountains are our garden although there is a large contained grassy area for sitting out and playing games. Sit on the terrace and admire the views and rest your weary limbs after a long walk - perhaps a gin and tonic in hand. Utility Room: Washing machine in the kitchen Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen is provided and there is a housekeeper who will clean up after your visit.
