About the Owner
I live next to the Forest Coach House with my husband, two sons, 2 dogs and a cat. We like to offer a comfortable place to stay without it breaking the bank.
Come and enjoy a short break to get away from it all, take a breather and clear your mind. A couple of nights away is sometimes all that's needed to recharge those batteries and return home with fond memories of long walks in the woods, a leisurely drink (or 2!) and a change of scenery. A little break from the usual routine. We like to offer a very warm welcome and then we make sure we respect the privacy of all our guests but of course if we can help in any way or to make your stay both comfortable and unforgettable we're just a quick text or a ring on the doorbell away!

This is the best holiday let we have stayed in. Superbly decorated and immaculate. The welcome treats for ourselves and our two dogs were a nice surprise. An ideal location for visiting the Forest of Dean, Symonds Yat and other lovely places. Thank you Tracey for such a warm welcome and hope to see you again.
What a great find.
We were greeted by Tracey and her gorgeous Sprocker and quickly shown around the apartment. There were treats waiting for both us and our dog which was lovely. The apartment is very clean, fresh and tastefully decorated. We traveled with our 15 year old daughter and the single room suited her perfectly. The beds were very comfortable and the view from the upstairs living room towards the Forest of Dean was lovely especially the sunsets.
This is a great location for exploring the Forest of Dean and is close to Symonds Yat with its varied activities. There is plenty to do in the local area and Chepstow, Gloucester and Ross are not too far away by car. You can also get to Cardiff on the train from Lydney. There is a Lidl and Co-Op in Cinderford and pubs and takeaways for eating. The surrounding villages also have a number of dog friendly pubs.
We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to any of our friends (with or without a dog) looking for somewhere to stay in this area.
Lovely and relaxing break - great host!
We had a lovely weekend break at The Forest Coach House. The Coach House was a perfect size for our family. Tracey looked after us really well and made us feel incredibly welcome. The stair gates, cakes, wine and toys for the kids were a hugely appreciated and welcomed surprise.
Thanks for a lovely stay!
Perfect in every way!
Such a wonderful welcome....our stay was perfect in every way. Great location and Tracey was so friendly and helpful. The cottage exceeded our expectations. Plenty big enough and just like a home from home. The secure courtyard was great for our little dog too. Hope to visit again soon.
We had a great stay at the Forest Coach House. Before and after booking Tracey responded to all of our emails and questions quickly and in a very friendly manner. On arrival there were freshly baked muffins and a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge as well as essentials such as milk, tea and coffee. There were other great little touches that made us feel at home, a sign outside the house welcoming us by name and a sign on the door to the single bedroom for our daughter.
There was lots of information on the local area and things to do in the house which was a great help. As well as the usual guest comments book Tracey also leaves a suggestions book for guests to comment on anything they think could be improved for the future; another great touch that shows how responsive she is to guests needs.
The house was clean, modern and well presented. Our daughter Mia also loved the owners two dogs and cat which she insisted we greeted every morning before we went out and every evening when we came back in. Although there isn't a great deal to see in Cinderford itself it's a great base for visiting the Forest of Dean, Wye Valley and beyond. We had a packed week and most of the attractions we visited were no more than a 30 minute drive away. Would recommend Puzzlewood, Dean Heritage Centre, Beechenhurst Lodge for a walk in the forest, Tintern Abbey and Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetland Trust in particular; all of which our (almost) 3 year old loved.
Would definitely recommend the Forest Coach House for a friendly and welcoming stay.
We arrived to fresh muffins, flowers, milk in the fridge and a toy, treats and a dog bed for our dog. My daughter was so chuffed to see her name on her bedroom door and also the basket full of books, games and a clock. Such lovely touches that made us feel right at home. The apartment has been done so well with all homely touches throughout and everything you could think of that you might need. Tracey is only next door if you should need anything (not that we did). The information book was invaluable and had lots of local information about good walks etc. You do need to use your car to get to most of the best walks, but it is only a 5 minute drive and there are plenty of car parks. I would recommend the Gruffalo Trail and Sculpture Trail (both start at Beechenhurst Lodge) where you can take dogs and let them off the lead around the trails. Dog friendly pubs that we found were The Woodlands, which serves lovely home cooked food and amazing home made puddings, and The Speech House which also serves lovely food. Tracey made us feel very welcome and we hope to return again soon. Thank you - Dave, Kate, Holly and Tinkerbell :-)
From the Owner
“We built the Forest Coach House in 2012 and started welcoming guests in the summer of 2013. We think that living on the edge of town but within walking distance of the countryside offers the best of both worlds. It is ideal for couples wanting to get away from it all but we do provide free WiFi so keeping in touch with outside world is still possible if you want it to be! Walking distance from town so you can pick up all you need for a short break, enjoy a relaxing meal or a drink or even visit our very own local cinema and enjoy the latest blockbuster! We have a fine view of our own over towards Abergavenny and just around the corner you can enjoy one of the best panoramic views in the county, overlooking the horseshoe bend of the river Severn - simply stunning! Cinderford has a relaxed pace and a friendly community of local people who care passionately about their heritage.”
Activity and Interests
Within a 2 minute drive of the Royal Forest of Dean, more than 27000 acres of beautiful woodland to explore. Particularly breathtaking mid May when covered in a carpet of bluebells and the Autumn months when the forest is cloaked in golds and bronze! Stunning views within a minute's walk of the Forest Coach House together with the convenience of being able to stroll into town to pick up provisions or a takeaway gives you the best of both worlds - not too isolated but within minutes of beautiful scenery to explore an enjoy.
Cinderford town is just a few minutes walk away and there are supermarkets, butchers, bakers and a greengrocer together with banks (Lloyds and HSBC). Indian and Chinese restaurants, cafes and takeaways and a fish & chip shop.
Nearby, Clearwell Caves is one of Britain's most complex and oldest mine workings dating back to well over 4500 years where you can explore nine atmospheric caverns with an ancient and intriguing past. How about spending time riding a steam train through the forest on our very own Dean Forest Railway or taking a trip on a cruise down the River Wye. Better still, experience the river Wye with a gentle boat trip or how about a canoe adventure? Plenty of information about all of the local activities and attractions is provided on arrival so you certainly won't be short of things to see and do, places to visit and restaurants to try.
Refreshments are always being served at the Speech House hotel, a former 17th century hunting lodge which hosted the "Court of the Speech"; a parliament for the Verderers and Free Miners managing the forest, game and mineral resources of the area. If twitching is your thing then a visit to Symonds Yat Rock is a must. A viewpoint for peregrine falcons and the site of an ancient Iron Age hill fort. The area was also used as a film location for Harry Potter. Puzzlewood is a magical and mystical place just 5 miles away and used on the set of BBC's Merlin, Dr Who, Atlantis and the latest Star Wars film due to be released later in 2015.

From the Owner
“Located on the edge of town the Forest Coach House is within walking distance of all you would need for a few days away. There is plenty of safe, off road parking and a secure lock up for cycles or motorbikes. You can leave the car behind as the bus stop is just a short stroll away so you could take a ride into Gloucester, Cheltenham or surrounding villages. Sitting on top of a double decker gives you the chance to relax and enjoy the journey by sneaking a peak over high hedges! If its long walks you're after then you can be in the woods (either on foot or in the car) within minutes. Previous guests are already planning return visits because there is just so much to see and do whatever the weather.”
