House in Treignac, Correze, Limousin, France - Relax, 'Digital Detox', Get Back To Nature And Sleep To The Sound Of The River
The old mill has been extensively renovated inside which makes it very comfortable. However we have retained the mills traditional French character, using pieces of mill equipment as furniture, lovely stone floors, exposed stone walls and shuttered windows. Both bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, one with a shower, the other with a huge old cast iron bath from a hotel in Paris - perfect for two! The mill has a vast sitting room and equally large kitchen and dining area. Well equipped with a gas smeg range cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer the mill is a great place to cook, eat and relax as a family or with friends. Together with its sweeping oak staircase and mezzanine between floors it has a great airy open plan feel, unusual in old buildings like this. There are lots of comfy sofas to curl up with a glass of red and a book. Thanks to underfloor heating, wood burner and huge fireplace it is warm in winter and with it's old stone walls it is cool in summer.

About Simon Peck
Hello, and thanks for looking at out house.
Simon Peck purchased this house in 2009
Why Simon Peck chose Tulle area
We have owned the mill for about 3 years. We bought it because we have a young family and are both working, so we know how hard it is to get away from it all and relax. We wanted somewhere totally away from the hectic pace of life, a place where you can see the stars, find mushrooms in the forest, swim in the rivers and lakes and have campfires and bbqs and really relax. We love the friendliness of the local french people, the wonderful food (& wine) and the unspoilt landscape of the area. We've seen eagles, red squirrels and deer around the house and forests.
We have spent a lot of effort making it a comfortable home from home, it has underfloor heating & so is warm in winter and big stone walls which keep it cool, even when it gets up to 30+ degrees in summer. We hope you enjoy it!
What makes this house unique
The biggest benefit of the mill is the huge internal space, and the large open plan layout. Currently it is about 300sq meters of space (with another two floors which we are still to convert!), and the main rooms on both floors are about 15m long. Most properties of this age have small rooms, which make them feel cramped & dark. As the photos show, this is not the case at the mill.
Its sits in 12 acres of land, mostly forest. The property has a river running through it, great for paddling in, but best of all you can catch (and eat) the crayfish which live in it.
The house is out of sight from its nearest neighbours, but not isolated. The postman is the only traffic most days
The local supermarkets are full of wonderful fruit & veg, and of course there are the croissants!

Absolutely amazing place , huge amounts of space and finished to a very high standard.
A very relaxing and tranquil setting, if you are looking for peace n quiet then this is the place .A great place to unwind and recharge the batteries
A first class property with every thing you need for an away from it all relaxing holiday.
A magnificent building in an absolutely gorgeous location offering peace and tranquillity and the description did not do the home justice! The Mill contains everything you need for your perfect holiday and is in excellent condition, spotlessly clean and no expense has been spared on furnishings and equipment and it sets you up for a wonderful time. We particularly liked the balance of being far enough away from habitation but near enough to dip in and out for essentials and the charming village of Chamberet, a mere 15 minute drive offers more than enough of amenities for your requirements. The larger town of Treignac, offers a little bit more and It is also within striking distance of larger towns and an abundance of local lakes to relax and enjoy a dip. Moulin is very cool at all times even with the fiercest of temperatures and the area is very pet friendly.
We had a fantastic time in Moulin and will be coming again most definitely. Simon and his family have made Moulin very welcoming for a range of parties and for all seasons. A perfect holiday! Excellent instructions, easy to find and help at the end of a phone if required from the in country representative. 10 out of 10!
Relaxation at its best
We have to say that the pictures do not do it justice. What a fantastic place to stay. All mod cons and very clean. Annette the key holder came to visit to ensure that we had settled in and found everything and offered any extra help. If you love the quiet and want R & R then this is the place for you. You can hear the stream from the master bedroom window at night, very relaxing. We would highly recommend it and are looking to return next year with our grandchildren. We travelled the short distance to Tregniac the beach there is very clean and family orientated. An e-mail from Simon, the owner was waiting for me on our return asking if the Mill was to our satisfaction and we have to say that it was above and beyond.
We had a fantastic stay at the Moulin D'Enval. The property has just as described and more. It was stunningly decorated, well equipped, clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed watching the DVDs and the sound system for the iPod excellent.
We enjoyed the local area, especially beach lake at Treignac, a meal at the Hotel de France in Chamberet and a walk up Mont Dore. I would definitely like to recommend the Gite.
There was good liaison with the owner with details about the area.
Having been traveling to France for many years now this was our first time to Limousin, but after seeing the description and photos of the mill we just had to give it a go.
One of the best decisions we have made - the mill and location was truly spectacular with all aspects exceeding expectations. From the initial enquiry, communication was prompt, accurate and extremely helpful and even included a weekly weather forecast a couple of days before we set off!! The mill has everything you would need whatever the weather and is very well equipped with high quality furnishing, equipment and accessories, the kitchen especially.
An email following our visit advising us on our security deposit refund was also prompt, although not necessary as we had already made our decision to use it as a deposit on our next visit within a couple of days being there. Thank you Simon for opening our eyes to yet another wonderful part of France and letting us stay at your home, you have a very special place, a real GEM!!

Activity and Interests
Special interest holidays:
Perfect for mountain biking, riding, walking, canoeing and anyone who wants to get away from it all.
There are numerous swimming lakes (often with beaches) in the region (it is not called the french lake district for nothing!). The nearest is Treignac's Lac De Bariousses, which has a great beach, good cafe/bar and excellent swimming. This is about 12km away (15 mins drive). Further afields (20mins) is Viam, and for the more sporty, Lac De Vassiviere, the largest lake in France offers watersports, and many beaches about 45 mins away.
Limoges Bellegarde is closest, about 70 mins away. About the same distance, but the opposite direction is Brive-Dordogne Airport.
Car is essential.
Treignac, a beautiful mediaeval village and one of Les Plus Belle Villages De France is 12km / 15 minutes away.
The closest village is Chamberet, with its bars, restaurants and supermarket and is about 9km away.
Placs to visit/Things to do
Uzerche - Very pretty town - about 45 mins from the house.
In 1787, the English writer Arthur Young described the city as "The Pearl of the Limousin," nicknamed because of its picturesque setting, and a name by which it is still widely known today. Built atop a rocky outcrop, surrounded by a meander of the river Vézère which it dominates, Uzerche possesses a rich cultural heritage. First as a centre of influence and an important crossroads fortress under Pepin the Short, the city was also the seat of a powerful abbey and later a Seneschal. This legacy means that Uzerche features castles, hotels and other buildings marked by turrets that were built by the uzerchoise nobility and that can still be seen today, thereby, adding weight to the saying, "He who has an Uzerche house has a castle in the Limousin"
Thermal Baths - 1, Place du Panthéon, 63240 - Le Mont Dore
Walking - go to Mont Dore, and head towards Sancy (follow signs from Mont Dore - its about 15 mins drive). Puy de Sancy is the largest peak in the Avergne, and dominates the area around Mont Dore. The summit is accessible by a cable car and a short ascent, but without snow, the area just below it is visibly heavily damaged by piste building, and the erosion from huge numbers of tourists. Despite this, the views are worth the trip. If you are up to it, an excellent route to the top ascends from the "preserved valley" to the north east. The full circular route gives a full days hiking of about 14 km distance and 800 m ascent and descent. Free! (unless you take the cable car).
Oradure Sur Glane - Memorial to french resistance/abandoned town
About 1.5/2hrs away - the other side of Limoges from the house - so perhaps
spending the morning in Limoges, and eat there, then head over to Oradure for the afternoon. Address for Sat Nav is the tourist office - Place du Champ de Foire, 87520 Oradour-sur-Glane. France.

- The building is an old flour Mill, originally powered by a water wheel (sadly long gone). But w've kept and restored some of the original mill equipment which now form part of the furniture. The building has been extensively renovated, but we've kept the lovely exposed stone walls, stone floors, and retained the huge open fire. We have also put in a powerful boiler and underfloor heating, and a big hot water tank. With the two fires and heating going, it is (and stays) very warm, and hot baths & showers are never a problem. The original small rooms have been opened up to give a huge living space over two floors. It has a large mezzanine between the floors and a lovely oak staircase and really is a great place to relax, curl up with a book and a glass of red in front of the fire. For the more active, it's a very rural part of France & surrounded by lots of beautiful lakes (great for summer swims), forests (great for walks and mountain biking) and beautiful medieval villages to explore. Outside: We have a canal which runs adjacent to the house, and a waterfall which tumbles into the lake just meters from the bedrooms, providing a wonderful soundtrack to the nights. There is a river in the garden, where you can catch crayfish in the summer. There is a lake, but at the moment it is undergoing restoration so is empty. The house sits within 12 acres of woodland, giving ample space to explore, pick mushrooms and have bbqs. Please don't expect manicured lawns - the garden has only recently been reclaimed from the forest! There is a table and chairs and a BBQ, you are also welcome to make a camp fire in the garden, but you have to bring the marshmallows! Utility Room: In the open plan kitchen there is a new bosch washing machine and dryer plus bosch dishwasher and a new fridge/freezer Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cleaning happens before your arrival, mid stay cleans can be arranged for extra cost and needs to be paid direct to the cleaner. Towel & Linen are not included, but can be provided (€15 per bed, towels €3 per person). Please pay housekeeper direct Other: Downstairs there is another seating area aroudn the wood burner. A comfy chesterfield sofa and two other sofas give seating for 6/7 comfortably. Adjacent to this, in the open plan layout is the dining area with a large dining table suitable for 6.
