Cottage in Aldringham, Nr. Aldeburgh Suffolk, England - Location Aldeburgh Thorpeness

A charming self catering holiday cottage, (circa 1850) has been tastefully restored and furnished. Situated near Aldeburgh on the Heritage Coast at Aldringham Common, within an area of outstanding natural beauty. Accessed by a rural track bordered by RSPB land and the Thorpeness Golf course. There are excellent walks directly from the cottage, which includes the beach at Thorpeness, Mere and pub. This beautiful rural location is only a short drive away from Aldeburgh with its shops, cafes, pubs, cinema and award winning restaurants. The cottage is central for visits to Southwold, Minsmere RSPB nature reserve, Dunwich Heath, Snape Maltings, famous for its concert hall, galleries, shops and farmers market and also Orford, with its coastal and river trips. With local heathland, wildlife and dramatic starry nights a holiday or short break at any time of the year can be recommended. The accommodation consists of lounge, dining room, kitchen, conservatory, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and garden.

About MR Josef Wondrak

Initially the cottage was purchased in 2002, but needed total refurbishment.....which was ideal for Josef as his business is interior design/soft furnishings. This career bought him to England over 25 years ago.

During the next few years the kitchen was extended, large conservatory added and major work and planting in the garden!! Going home , back to Hertfordshire became more and more difficult, and in 2007 a permanent move to a village near the cottage was made.... Definitely no regrets.

First bookings at the Follies were taken in 2008, and now many of our guests return regularly to enjoy the unique setting and relaxation the cottage and Suffolk gives.

Notes on accommodation: A steep staircase leads to the landing from the lounge. Children must be over the age of 10 years Sorry no pets allowed Outside: Garden includes a large patio with furniture, BBQ. The pretty garden also has a small summerhouse and gazebo with furniture. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedlinen, towels and duvets provided. Other: Conservatory has comfortable sofas, CD and I Pod docking station, and French doors leading to patio and attractive private gardens.

Home from home

Our fifth visit to this wonderful Cottage. The Cottage is always clean and well equipped. The welcome from Josef and Wendy is always keenly anticipated. We enjoy the peace and quiet of the secluded location and the accessibility to Aldeburgh and Thorpeness beaches and amenities i.e. the local restaurants .The wildlife seen from the Cottage is varied especially in the early mornings. We would not hesitate to rebook this Cottage, in fact we have already done so! We would highly recommend this property and its relaxing garden.

A lovely getaway!

My children, husband and I had a lovely stay at Two The Follies cottage this springtime. The owners, Josef and Wendy, were very welcoming and went out of their way to help us when we needed it. The setting is very peaceful, with short walks straight from the cottage - we saw deer twice - once a small herd galloping through the woods - amazing. The coast is a 5 minute drive, all amenities are within easy driving distance, it is an excellent base from which to explore. The cottage is lovely, clean and comfortable. We would happily stay again.

Fantastic, clean, beautiful, peacefull

I would highly recommend this beautiful cottage. It is tucked away in a quiet wood with only a couple of neighbours on either side. Fantastic walking direct from the cottage.

The cottage is immaculately clean, spacious, with plenty of storage for clothes and food. The kitchen is well equipped and the sofas are really comfy too.

My family and I have had a wonderful holiday. This is a great base to explore Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Orford, Dunwich, Snape and Southwold. There a fabulous walks, Benjamin Britten's house The Red House, beaches and gorgeous restaurants and pubs.

I'm sure we will be back.

The Perfect Escape!

We have returned to this lovely cottage every year for the last 7 years. It is comfortable, well-equipped and always clean and tidy. The garden is secluded and is ideal for alfresco dining, weather permitting. Over the years, improvements have been added by Josef and Wendy, the friendly and helpful owners who live locally and are there to welcome you on arrival and provide thoughtful touches like fresh flowers, milk and a bottle of wine.

The location is excellent. There are many lovely walks directly from the cottage - RSPB North Warren is a pleasant 30 minutes walk, as are Thorpeness and the Sandlings and Suffolk Coastal Walks. It is also very convenient for Aldeburgh, Snape Maltings, Southwold, Orford and Orford Ness, Dunwich Heath and RSPB Minsmere. There are some good dining pubs within easy reach. We are wildlife enthusiasts and there is always plenty to see in the vicinity. There are lovely art galleries too at Southwold, and Snape, which also has lovely shops and frequent events such as music and food festivals and farmers' markets.
