A traditional stone property dating back to the 1650's. It has been tastefully and sympathetically renovated to provide characterful accommodation with modern comforts and mod-cons. Set within private grounds of around four and half acres, the communal grounds contain a shared heated pool and children's play area (Skyfort, trampoline and swings), along with a small wood, fruit trees, open grassland, and chickens. Each cottage has its own private garden. There is a large car park, and a large communal, sheltered, south facing courtyard, complete with benches and fountain. The cottages are in the heart of the country with lots of fresh air and no light pollution! The local area is very rich with history, has beautiful medieval towns, ruins and chateaux, along with excellent outdoor pursuits, including a 400 ha lake, with safe sandy beaches, less than 10 minutes away. The local village (around a mile) away has a pub and shop, with a larger town around 4 miles away.

Our location puts us in easy reach of most of the major attractions of Brittany - from quiet walks and cycle tracks, to roman ruins, standing stones, museums and local markets. There are thousands of places to go locally, whether you want to soak up the culture, enjoy the local cuisine, or just relax in the fresh air and unwind.

This charming 17th century one bedroom property has been tastefully renovated to provide a holiday cottage with modern comforts, whilst retaining its period features. The property has its own private gated garden and patio, which open onto the large communal gardens where you will also find the heated swimming pool and play area. It also has its own private hot-tub within its garden (may-sept). Garden is equipped for outside dining and also has a Webber BBQ

In the property there is a welcoming wood-burning stove, double sofa, TV, DVD, English Freesat, ipod dock radio and dining table, along with a separate well equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar. The main living room has French doors onto the patio / outdoor dining area, and the kitchen has a separate door out on the patio. Upstairs there is a large vaulted bedroom with exposed beams, king size bed, along with space for a cot and / or child's bed. The newly fitted 'bathroom' is equipped with a 'massage' shower.

About the Owner

We moved out to France in 2012 to take on this lovely group of holiday cottages, but also to try and experience the best of the relaxed French family orientated lifestyle, and the culture.

We have worked hard on bringing the cottages up a high standard whilst also trying to have some time off to enjoy as much as possible of the local area so we are able to give lots of recommendations to our visitors.

We are also trying to be a little more sustainable, growing our own fruit and veg, producing our own firewood and keeping chickens for fresh eggs, not quite on the scale of "The Good Life" though!

We have really enjoyed the experience, both of living in France, and the fun of running the cottages.

From the warm welcome and "show around" from our hosts Andrea, Luke and George we knew our choice of this gite was perfect. The gite itself was ideal for the two of us and was all ready for our arrival. The gite is located in lovely peaceful countryside and the local town of Murs de Bretagne is picture book Brittany with a small supermarket and an amazing boulangerie. The local countryside includes Lac Guerledan with picturesque walks and several restaurants at the waters edge. As you would expect the food was amazing and not at all pricey. The local people were all very friendly and welcoming. On outings we traveled to Concarnau and St Bruiec both delightful towns with wonderful beaches. We would love to return to stay here again hopefully with our family.The whole stay and particularly the gite were first class.

We have just returned from a February half term break in Le Nefflier Cottage, Les Gites du Sanglier. WOW. Where to start - Firstly, the journey was very easy via good roads. The Gites were also easy to find. We were given a very warm welcome from the owners. The location is wonderful - so peaceful and relaxing, and one of our favourite things was watching the stars at night - they were stunning! As for the gite itself, you would not realise you are in a one bed - the Nefflier is extremely spacious and my husband, myself and 12 year old daughter had more than enough space. The gite is furnished beautifully - it has everything you could possibly need, and we were greeted with a lovely "welcome pack" of tea, coffee, milk, crepes, baguette. There are also other extras such as towels, a hairdryer, robes, a wealth of books, and plenty of games, which we thoroughly enjoyed using. There is also a great supply of days out/leaflets which we enjoyed using for ideas for days out.

Despite visiting in February, the weather was wonderful. We left a dreary North Yorkshire amid snow showers, and enjoyed warmer temperatures, with glorious blue skies.

I would not hesitate to recommend staying over the winter period as the area is still stunning, the gites are extremely comfortable and we really enjoyed our cosy evenings in front of the wood burner.

We returned to a blustery, snowy North Yorkshire feeling thoroughly refreshed.

Our search for the perfect property took three years and we lost count of the number of properties we looked at! In the end we found what we were looking for; a traditional stone building with character, within easy distance of lots of things to see and do for our guests, with easy access to major transport links, remote enough to have lots of fresh air and inky black skies with twinkling stars but very easy access to shops, restaurants etc. An added bonus was lots of our own land and enough renovation work to allow us to put our own stamp on the building. The main road running down the centre of Brittany is only 4 miles from the gîtes and access to the whole of Brittany is very easy; you are at the heart of Brittany with all the advantages that brings.

4.1miles - Less than 10 minutes in the car to lac du Guerledan, with its safe sandy beaches

The beaches on Lac du Guerledan are sandy, with free parking and are all safe for swimming. In addition there are several boat launching ramps. Three of the beaches off kayak hire, and one of them offers pedalo hire. There are restaurants next to the beach at two locations, and there are toilets at four of the beaches, whilst the largest beach has free showers.

Coastal beaches are easily accessible too

Caen - Ferry ~ 3 hrs

Restaurants in Mur De Bretagne ( ~ 4 miles) vary from a Michelin Starred French cuisine, to pizzerias, to one run by a retired butcher who specialises in dishes based around the best cuts of meat. There is also the local tourism office here, a bank, supermarket, lots of small shops, and a doctors and a pharmacy.

The local marie (1 mile) sells stamps and there is a postbox there too. The Local pub does great coffee as well as being a bar, and also cooks fish and chips (really tasty) on a Friday. There is also a local shop in the village for essential supplies.

There is a huge variety of things to do which includes everything from motor-racing and motor museums, carting, water-skiing, water parks, fun parks, walking, cycling (road), mountain biking, horse-riding and fishing.There are huge numbers of historical places to visit, from recreations of gaulish villages (like Asterix the Gaul's), through historic, castles, chateaus, houses and parks, along with art galleries, aquariums and zoos. At a slower pace its possible to search out local artisans, or wander round the old towns, talking in their characterful shops, or just sit at one of the many café and watch the world go by!

Arrival is after 4pm, departure by 10am, but we sometimes be flexible on this. We can offer locked storage outside if you arrive very early or wish to spend the day exploring on your departure day

Pets - we welcome well behaved Cats, Dogs and Ferrets (other pets - please discuss). Please note we charge £50 for the first Pet, £100 for two pets and £300 for three pets per week. (ferrets are eligible for a discount - please discuss). We also charge an additional deposit of £50 per pet. If you are booking via the web site the web site will allow you to pay the initial £50 fee, subsequent fees for more than one pet, and the additional deposit are payable upon arrival. If booking direct then this will all be included on your invoice.

All pets need to have suitable vaccinations, be wormed, and treated for fleas etc.

For those travelling from the UK - you will need a pet passport and will need to visit the vet before returning to the UK - We can help arrange this with our local vet to help make your stay as easy as possible.

Situated in a small hamlet about a mile from the nearest village the village shop complete with café & bar. The local town has several great restaurants (including one with a Michelin star!) as well as supermarket, boulangerie, buthcer, creperie, chemist, doctor etc. Chateaux, Medieval ruins, them parks, shopping, and culture are all nearby. Less than ten minutes away is the 400 ha lac du Geurledan (the largest lake in Brittany) which is great for swimming, kayaking, water-skiing or just enjoying the sandy beaches. It also has great walks, cycling and horse-riding routes round it. The Tour de France passes through, and every year you can see the teams training in the local area. For children we have swings, and a trampoline, along with a 'skyfort' which has swings, monkey bars, table, chairs, a raised 'fort' with crows-nest (age restrictions apply). In addition we have a swing under a cherry tree that adults can use too. The communal gardens have a wooded area, but is mainly grass - suitable for football, tennis, boules etc, along with sitting areas, and shaded walks with views out over the fields. There is a badminton net. Outside the property is a very quiet lane and which provides access to local tracks, cycle paths and parts of the official 'Green paths' walking network.
