Villa In Calahonda, Costa Del Sol, Spain

Updated: 17-Oct-2016
Villa in Calahonda, Costa del Sol, Spain - Quiet Garden With 5 Minutes Walk Down The Hill To The Shops And 7 Minutes To The Beaches

The recently refurbished villa has a modern kitchen and two bathrooms and is situated with the beach and shops less than 7 minutes walk away; other amenities, restaurants and bars are only a short drive. The spacious patio has a rustic dining table that seats eight and is ideal for al fresco dining with a substantial awning for those who want to stay out of the sun during those hot summer months! There are ample sun-loungers and a BBQ located close to the idyllic lemon tree that lends itself perfectly to relaxing with a sun-downer. The 8 mt pool has a shallow end for children and is within 5 steps of the patio. This charming retreat is set in the peaceful town of Calahonda - a short drive from the bustle of Marbella and Fuengirola. The villa is on a quiet road with the beach, supermarket, restaurants, bars and other amenities a short walk in each direction. Plenty to see and do, it is the perfect base from which to explore (and escape from) all that the Costa del Sol has to offer.

About the Owner

The owners, Max and Sue, now live in Nottingham, UK but have spent most of the last 45 years living and working overseas - in fact, the carpet in the lounge is handmade from Kazakhstan and was acquired while we lived in Almaty for three years. We are now retired and spend time travelling, maintaining my 1968 Jaguar and looking after grand children but always spend 3 vacations in No 4 Belindas every year. Our children have visited No 4 Belindas and all have swam in the pool and played in the garden and now it is the turn of their children. PLEASE NOTE: management of this property has now passed to Max's 3 children: Kirsty, Vanessa and Daniel

A lovely Villa in a good location.

  • 5 of 5

We have been holidaying in Calahonda for over 20 years and in that time have rented a variety of apartments and villas. 4 Belindas rates as one of the best properties in both location and presentation. We are returning this month for the fourth time.

It provides both ourselves and our extended family, who join us for part of our stay, with a quiet yet conveniently located villa in Calahonda. We have found the owner, Max, to be both helpful and accommodating and we are only too happy to recommend his property.

Amazing property

  • 5 of 5

Pros: The property itself is wonderful

Cons: The management company Caribasol

No.4 Belindas is beautiful, clean, comfortable, quiet, well equipped. We hired a car but you don't really need one, the supermarket, few shops, restaurant are within walking distance & the beach is reachable on foot (15 mins) through a beautiful nature reserve. At the beach is a lovely beach bar/restaurant with sun loungers. I would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone it is lovely & we all really enjoyed ourselves. However...........

I would not even entertain it until the owner employs a new management team.

I have just had a terrible time trying to get my damage deposit E200 returned via Paypal. They kept saying that their was a problem with my account (paypal confirmed that there wasn't) it was only after I contacted the owner that they sprang into action. I was told this morning (Sat) that I would have to wait till Wed for my money (I've already waited 21 days, & I had to contact them for it after the 21 days) I said that I would have to update the owner yet again on the situation & hey presto I received the money 5 mins later.

At best Caribasol has terrible customer service skills & at worst Caribasol has a cash flow problem & needs to make up excuses to hold on to customers money for as long as possible.....either way I would not return to this beautiful property because of them.

A terrible shame for the owners but a change of management company is essential & on that basis alone I would say avoid as the stress of keep receiving indecipherable emails telling you that you will have to send invoice from your own website etc has put years on me for the past 3 days

Owner's Response: Dear Rachel, We are sincerely sorry for all the stress and inconvenience you experienced during this time. This unfortunate matter has now been dealt with. It is with comfort to know that you enjoyed your time at our property and are hoping that with time the fond memories will outweigh the negative. Apologies again, Vanessa (Max and Sue's daughter)

Enjoyable Holiday

  • 5 of 5

I spent a week at this villa with my 2 children and had a very enjoyable holiday. The villa is very well equipped with everything you need and was spotlessly clean on arrival. The owner, Max, was extremely helpful, calling beforehand to explain where the villa was and also calling during the holiday to explain how to light the open log fire, which was fantastic on the cool spring evenings. The location is great, on a very quiet cul-de-sac with 4 other villas and located close to Cabopino and La Cala. A 2 minute walk gets you to 2 supermarkets and a couple of restaurants and bars, breakfast at Kerry's is fantastic. The port of Cabopino is about a mile away and a lovely walk along the beach. Once there you find a secluded marina, very quiet but with some excellent seafood restaurants. All in all a very enjoyable holiday, he only drawbacks being that the pool was cold, yet to warm up as it was early in the year, and the internet UK TV was very hit and miss, although there is a DVD player and a DVD rental shop 2 minutes down the road.

Owner's Response: Thank you Andy for a positive and helpful review. At this time, all UK TV is very hit and miss on the Costa del Sol but our supplier of Internet and TV has access to the fiber optic cable that has been laid along the road outside the Villa and we should be able to access the fiber optic cable in July when we are back in the property. We are hopeful that this may solve the UK TV problem. Regards, Max & Sue

Great Holiday Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We first discovered this tranquil holiday retreat in May 2013. Along with my family we spent a wonderful week at this idyllic location. We enjoyed it so much we made a second visit in September the same year.

Like all of us when we start our search for our holiday ie location, accommodation etc., we do so with some apprehension whether it will match the website profile. I can tell you that this holiday retreat does just that. It is great value for money and you will not be disappointed.

From the Owner

We purchased No 4 Belindas after extensive searches throughout Florida, France, Turkey and the rest of Spain produced the one property that ticked all the boxes and met all the fairly stringent requirements for our overseas residence. All the others had failed because of serious flaws (too far, wrong atmosphere, too crowded, did not feel right, pool too far away, pool too crowded) until we were left with No 4 Belindas which had all the amenities that we required, was quiet, easy and cheap to travel to and surrounded by restaurants and bars with that Spanish feel.

Activity and Interests

Royal and Luna beaches are located at the bottom of the hill and are about 700 metres walk from No 4 Belindas. Both beaches have bars and cafes and offer hire of beach umbrellas and sun-loungers.

To the west, 500 m away, is located the Port of Cabopina which offers a plethora of sail and power boats and probably the best beach on the Costa del Sol. Ample restaurants are found together with umbrellas and sun-loungers. This beach can be very crowded at weekends.

The closest airport is at Malaga and is serviced by most carriers operating in Europe. The airport is approximately 30 minutes drive from Calahonda. Also at Malaga airport is a wide selection of car hire companies although a car is not strictly essential as most facilities are within walking distance of No 4 Belindas and the airport can be accessed by taxi or bus transport.

Malaga is located some 30 Kms to the east of Calahonda with Fuengirola about 12 Kms in the same direction. To the west is Marbella which is some 15 kms away.

Ronda with its breath taking bridge can be accessed in an hour by car as can the lakes in the mountains behind the coastal flat lands which provide the water supply for the area and tranquil woods and hills. The railway crossings above the gorges in the lake areas are truly outstanding and a masterpiece of engineering.

Further Details:

The shopping complex at the bottom of the hill provides and large supermarket and a branch of Lidl. Also found here are a medical practitioner, two banks, several restaurants, a chemist, hardware shop, newspaper and a Chinese shop that stocks everything.

Many other restaurants are found in the area and the property comes with a guide giving details a recommendations.

From the Owner

Initially, we played golf, visited the beaches and travelled to the various places of interest (Sierra Nevada, Ronda, the lakes in the mountains) but now, mobility concerns have limited the travels and left us reveling in the tranquility of the garden, the enjoyment of playing with the grandchildren and improving their swimming ability in the pool. With the ease of shopping, so little time is wasted every day and yet with the availability of UK papers and UK TV, one does not feel as though one is letting the World go by.

  • Notes on accommodation: All bedrooms renovated this year and beds recently replaced. Outside: No 4 Belindas is south facing and enjoys the sun all day long. The garden is quiet and peaceful although school holidays in August may get busy and adequate sun-loungers are supplied being kept to the side of the building. The lawns are cut weekly and the pool cleaned and serviced as necessary and being shared with only five other villas, for much of the time outside of August, it feels like it is for the exclusive use of No 4 Belindas The patio has a lemon tree to the side and clients are encouraged to pick their own lemons as required for sun-downers as they watch the birds skim the surface of the pool almost touching the surface while waiting for the charcoal BBQ, which is also on the patio, to burn through and start the cooking. The lawns are cut weekly and the pool cleaned and serviced as necessary. Utility Room: Cleaning materials can be found under the sink and in the downstairs bedroom and bathroom. Ironing board and iron are provided. Drying racks can be used on sun terrace to the side of the property. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen, hand and bath towels are provided but not beach towels. The property is cleaned before clients arrive and can be cleaned every week with clean laundry for longer lets. Other: The sun terrace located at the end of the property up the stairs is ideal for catching the last rays of sun especially in the winter months.
