Classic English Country Cottage, opposite Windsor Great Park, with amazing views

Overview

Property

Updated: 02-Dec-2016
Cottage in Old Windsor, Berkshire, England - Classic English Country Cottage, opposite Windsor Great Park, with amazing views of Windsor Castle

The Victorian Lodge (1876) is a charming and quintessentially English country cottage on a private estate once owned by King Henry 8th. The area is great for couples, families, country lovers, townies, food lovers, gardeners, riders, polo players, golfers and walkers too.

The Cottage is set on a quiet country road, directly opposite the magnificent Windsor Great Park, with spectacular views of Windsor Castle.

It's a super warm, super cosy cottage, with a lovely garden in a unique location, on a quiet and private estate of four houses. With private parking, polo ponies in the field opposite the Lodge, great walks, great pubs, Windsor, Thorpe Park and LEGOLAND just nearby, and central London only 35 minutes away by train.

The Cottage is only 5 minutes away from the Bishops Gate entrance into the Great Park, where you can walk forever, bike ride, horse ride, or just sit by one of the enormous lakes and lap up some of the stunning views. Take a walk in the famous Valley or Savill Gardens, watch a few chukkas being played at Guards Polo ground, or take a ride on one of our own retired polo ponies instead, by prior arrangement.

There is a traditional English pub only 5 minutes away, The Fox and Hounds in Englefield Green , situated by the Bishops Gate entrance into the Great Park , serving simply wonderful light bites, great pub food and smart restaurant food. It's the perfect place, and great for lunch, dinner, a snack or a BBQ, and a well earned rest after a walk in the Park.

The Lodge has everything you should need, with Sky+ satellite television, high speed Wi-Fi internet, DVD, and a roaring log fire in the sitting room. A Queen size Master bedroom has an adjoining bathroom, a second bedroom with new twin beds that can join to make a King size bed, a study / third bedroom with a small double sofa bed, and two travel cots and two fold out single beds if also needed. The second bathroom has a bath and power shower, and the utility room has a washing machine, dishwasher. microwave and tumble dryer.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I adored our stay at this historic cottage! Our week was a step back in time for us, as we lived in Ascot while our children were

young. You have all the modern conveniences, yet are situated in a historic area with a castle view, and horses outside your front door. Our winter walk in Valley Gardens, day trip to the Cotswolds, and visits to old local pubs were all we had hoped. We are looking forward to returning with our "now adult" children in tow. Hamish could not have been more charming, or helpful.

A stunning cottage with wonderfull host

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderfull relaxing break, the host is a most welcoming, friendly and helpfull person. There was a lovely hamper to welcome us to the cottage. The cottage is a very warm and welcoming place, instantly feeling like a home from home rather than a holiday let. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, it is always warm and the real fire is a real bonus in the evenings. The cottage is clean and very well equiped. It was a fantastic stay, Thank you Hamish. Hope to see you again soon.

A delightful cottage with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We were warmly greeted by Susie who showed us around and spent time informing us about the area. A beautiful welcome basket was waiting for us in the kitchen and everything in the cottage was neatly arranged. The cottage is very comfortable and cosy and it was lovely to enjoy the warmth of the "real" fire on a couple of evenings. Wish we could have spent more time in the pretty garden area looking across the field and the magnificent view of Windsor Castle - that sight never gets old.

Hamish and Sue were fabulous hosts, so kind and thoughtful and fun to chat to. We locked our key in the cottage one day and Hamish was straight round to let us in and amuse us with one of his fascinating stories - Hamish, you should write a book! ;)

It was a busy trip for us travelling from the States where we now live back home to visit friends and family and we had a full agenda. Wish we had had more time to relax and soak it all in at this sweet cottage and all that it offers....but hopefully, there is always next time!

Stunning English Country Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful stay at 'The Cottage'. Hamish and Susie were so very welcoming and couldn't do enough to make sure our stay was just perfect for us. Lovely little touches like the welcome basket with fresh bread and yummy treats. The Cottage was clean, very comfortable with beautiful open fire in the lounge and perfect for us with two small children. We enjoyed the amazing views from the cottage of Windsor Castle and the lovely garden where our children enjoyed playing.

We loved our stay at 'The Cottage' and have already starting thinking about a return trip, I highly recommend this property. Just perfect.

Thank you so much Hamish and Susie for making our break so relaxing and enjoyable.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage, location and facilities were absolutely accurate according to the listing description. It was very clean and well-maintained. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the owner; a welcome package with local delicacies, fresh bread and milk awaited us in the kitchen. We absolutately will recommend the cottage to familiy and friends. We visited te region between Oxford and central London conveniently.

Unique Benefits Of The Lodge :- It is our second home so its very cosy and homely and we know the area very well, so are able to give loads of advice if needed. Its location is special ! Right opposite the Royal park with amazing views and a haven for wildlife. It is quiet and country but near to everything and set between 2 Queens it makes it truly unique! It's traditionally furnished, but with all the mod cons and is far cheaper than staying in a hotel, much more relaxed and you can self cater if you want to! Outside: Outside is a lovely cottage garden, with a small paddock, a couple of Lutyens benches, and seating for 8 in a secluded area underneath a rose and vine covered Pergola, where you can dine and barbecue (provided) to your hearts content, overlooking the wonderful views of Windsor Castle. Utility Room: Plenty of fitted cupboards and work space, this room offers a large fridge freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, microwave, a gas fired boiler with airing cupboard and a back door entrance straight out to the garden. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen, fluffy towels and a welcome pack is provided for each bedroom. The property is cleaned and the linen changed before and after each stay. Maid services can be provided by prior arrangement. Other: The dining area can seat up to eight and is open plan, situated between the sitting room and kitchen. There is also a large hall cupboard for coats and suitcases, and a garden shed for bikes and anything for the outdoor
