About the property

Cottage in Old Windsor, Berkshire, England - Classic English Country Cottage, opposite Windsor Great Park, with amazing views of Windsor Castle

The Victorian Lodge (1876) is a charming and quintessentially English country cottage on a private estate once owned by King Henry 8th. The area is great for couples, families, country lovers, townies, food lovers, gardeners, riders, polo players, golfers and walkers too.

The Cottage is set on a quiet country road, directly opposite the magnificent Windsor Great Park, with spectacular views of Windsor Castle.

It's a super warm, super cosy cottage, with a lovely garden in a unique location, on a quiet and private estate of four houses. With private parking, polo ponies in the field opposite the Lodge, great walks, great pubs, Windsor, Thorpe Park and LEGOLAND just nearby, and central London only 35 minutes away by train.

The Cottage is only 5 minutes away from the Bishops Gate entrance into the Great Park, where you can walk forever, bike ride, horse ride, or just sit by one of the enormous lakes and lap up some of the stunning views. Take a walk in the famous Valley or Savill Gardens, watch a few chukkas being played at Guards Polo ground, or take a ride on one of our own retired polo ponies instead, by prior arrangement.

There is a traditional English pub only 5 minutes away, The Fox and Hounds in Englefield Green , situated by the Bishops Gate entrance into the Great Park , serving simply wonderful light bites, great pub food and smart restaurant food. It's the perfect place, and great for lunch, dinner, a snack or a BBQ, and a well earned rest after a walk in the Park.

The Lodge has everything you should need, with Sky+ satellite television, high speed Wi-Fi internet, DVD, and a roaring log fire in the sitting room. A Queen size Master bedroom has an adjoining bathroom, a second bedroom with new twin beds that can join to make a King size bed, a study / third bedroom with a small double sofa bed, and two travel cots and two fold out single beds if also needed. The second bathroom has a bath and power shower, and the utility room has a washing machine, dishwasher. microwave and tumble dryer.

.

We live up the long driveway, so we're only 2 minutes away and here to help in any way at any time, whilst you are there or away, but we're always very respectful of your privacy.

Idyllic, Quintessential English Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We fell in love with this gem of a country cottage instantly. Inside, it is beautifully furnished & decorated, and also has comfy mattresses, dressing gowns, fluffy towels & toiletries. For colder nights, there is central heating, an open log fire, woolly throws & for the more hardy, an outdoor fire-pit. We were lucky with the weather for most of our stay in May: so we spent lots of time lunching & dining alfresco (enjoying a BBQ on one day) & chilling out in the spacious gardens. The cottage is set in an idyllic location with stunning views over green fields to Windsor Castle & with horses grazing in the adjoining field. It is a haven of peace & tranquillity. The surrounding areas of historic Windsor & Eton, and the majestic River Thames are simply gorgeous. Our hosts, Susie & Hamish, are a lovely couple, so interesting to talk to & made us feel right at home. A welcome hamper was filled with delightful goodies & the fridge with fresh eggs, butter & milk: one of many gestures of kindness. The kitchen is well equipped with everything that we needed. Our stay was memorable from start to finish & we can’t wait to book another holiday here. Thank you Susie & Hamish for your great hospitality and our stay at your exquisite cottage.

Beautiful relaxing hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage, extremely well equipped for a family holiday. Wonderful welcome as well as a fabulous mini hamper. Highly recommend as both a great base for Legoland and all other local attractions, but also as a quiet spot close to amenities to just relax and chill out. Can't recommend highly enough.

The cottage is in an idyllic setting with pretty garden and peaceful surroundings.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage on arrival was stocked with ample nibbles including fresh bread, cheese, biscuits, crisps and wine. Exceedingly hospitable and generous of our hosts. The toiletries were abundant as were towels and even luxurious bath robes. Hamish is an extremely welcoming and charming host who is on hand if required and happy to be so.

Wonderful Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful is the only word that sums up our stay at this beautiful cottage. The setting is unbelievable and you are made so welcome by Hamish the perfect host. Althoug we didn't meet his wife Susie all we can say is the lady has exquisite taste. The little touches in the cottage made us feel as though we were staying in someone's home. We arrived (after a long leisurely pub lunch in the local Fox and Hounds) to a welcome pack of White Wine, Rosemary Bread, Cheese, a wonderful fig chutney and crackers, in fact a ready made supper - which we made full use off. It didn't end there there was milk, tea, coffee and marmalade and fresh fruit for breakfast. How lovely is a welcome like that. We highly recommend the cottage and we are already planning our next visit.

Unique Benefits Of The Lodge :- It is our second home so its very cosy and homely and we know the area very well, so are able to give loads of advice if needed. Its location is special ! Right opposite the Royal park with amazing views and a haven for wildlife. It is quiet and country but near to everything and set between 2 Queens it makes it truly unique! It's traditionally furnished, but with all the mod cons and is far cheaper than staying in a hotel, much more relaxed and you can self cater if you want to! Outside: Outside is a lovely cottage garden, with a small paddock, a couple of Lutyens benches, and seating for 8 in a secluded area underneath a rose and vine covered Pergola, where you can dine and barbecue (provided) to your hearts content, overlooking the wonderful views of Windsor Castle. Utility Room: Plenty of fitted cupboards and work space, this room offers a large fridge freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, microwave, a gas fired boiler with airing cupboard and a back door entrance straight out to the garden. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen, fluffy towels and a welcome pack is provided for each bedroom. The property is cleaned and the linen changed before and after each stay. Maid services can be provided by prior arrangement. Other: The dining area can seat up to eight and is open plan, situated between the sitting room and kitchen. There is also a large hall cupboard for coats and suitcases, and a garden shed for bikes and anything for the outdoor
