About David Curtis

We are a couple in our early seventies with three grown up children and eight grandsons. We live in north London and we are very active in our local church.

David Curtis purchased this apartment in 2002

Why David Curtis chose Suffolk

We actually had our honeymoon in Southwold over 40 years ago, so it has always been a special place to us. We bought 1 Pier Court around 10 years ago and we always love spending time in the flat.

What makes this apartment unique

1 Pier Court is so bright and comfortable and the pace of life always seems to slow down when we are here. Just popping to the shops or our for a meal always seems so easy.

Sep 2016 Family Holiday

Nice flat and location, had all we needed for our family holiday. Really good value compared to other places we have stayed in Southwold. Would stay again and recommend especially if you have a family.

Good value, Ideal for all ages

  • 5 of 5

We are a married couple with 2 small children and my wife is 7 months pregnant. David was very helpful in the booking process, everything was clear and friendly. We enjoyed our stay.

1 Pier Court is right next to the Pier!! Couldn't be closer, it's brilliant. Plus a nice 10 minute walk into town along the promenade is a delight. There is a parade of shops (Clancy's convenience store, Barbers etc) at the other end of Pier Avenue also so all very kitted out.

1 Pier Court is all open plan, comfortable, plenty of internal helfpful detail (like blenders for example!)

We had a great time, good value and will return one day. With the third in a cot!

Beside the Seaside...

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this flat for a week at the end of June / beginning of July. It was a last minute booking so there wasn't much choice but, despite that, it suited us perfectly.

It may only be a flat, but it has more space than some houses / cottages that we have stayed in and there is tons of room for two to four people. The living room is huge with a conservatory extension and a small dining area. There are plenty of power points if you take a laptop, cameras or other similar devices that need to be recharged.

The bedrooms are both of a good size and having both a shower room and a bathroom mean that two people can be performing their ablutions at the same time which is useful when going out for the day.

The kitchen is well appointed with cupboards, etc. and has that most useful of appliances, a dishwasher. There is a washing machine in the front porch. Having a private parking space is a boon as Southwold is a popular place and street parking places soon get filled up.

Locationwise, it couldn't be better. The pier and beach are just across the road and there is a bus stop opposite. Although sandy, the beach is a bit pebbly in places, but plenty of clear sand for the kiddies to build sand castles, bury their dads, etc.

Some of the pubs / restaurants are a bit expensive - well, it is Southwold. However, we found the Red Lion to be quite reasonable and with a varied menu and generous portions. It's very popular, so you may have to queue to place your order. Also Mrs. T's fish and chips down by the harbour - watch their opening hours though.

Other places we visited and can recommend are the East Anglian Transport Museum at Carlton Coleville near Lowestoft (closed on Fridays!) which has an interesting collection of old trams, buses and trolleybuses and the Africa Alive Wildlife Park at Kessingland, also near Lowestoft.

Further afield is Bressingham Steam and Gardens which has railways of four different gauges, an interesting collection of railway relics and some attractive gardens. It's an hour's journey by car.

Down the coast is Aldeburgh. Worth a visit, but not for the beach - it's just shingle. There are probably lots of other things to see and places to go, but that's all we had time for. One word of warning though - there's no petrol in Southwold, so keep the tank topped up when out and about.

The final question is would we stay there again - and the answer is... unhesitatingly yes!
