Rothay Lodge Apartment is just a few minutes walk from the centre of Grasmere village. The apartment is all on the ground floor and suitable for wheelchair users. It is in a beautiful, tranquil setting alongside the River Rothay. For large family gatherings, the apartment can be combined with Rothay Lodge (which sleeps 10) and which is next door. There are 2 double bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms, a large dining kitchen and a lounge with double French doors out to a private patio.

About Lindsay Rogers

We loved holidaying in the Lake District but never found a self-catering cottage that was suitable as one of our children uses a wheelchair. We bought Rothay Lodge & Apartment in 2003 and made both properties wheelchair accessible and provided everything that we would want from a holiday home.

Grasmere is not only a lovely village and good base for fell walking but there are some lovely low level walks which are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

A Visitor book contains many kind comments about how lovely, warm and well-equipped the apartment is and what a great holiday was had. Also, when returning the key in the stamped addressed envelope provided, guests have often included a note thanking me, saying that it was like a home from home and often re-booking for the following year.

Notes on accommodation: Rothay Lodge Apartment is a self-contained ground floor apartment next to Rothay Lodge. There is a large well-equipped kitchen/dining room and a lounge with French windows opening out to a private patio area with table and chairs. Outside: The private patio area to the front of the Apartment has a table and chairs and receives the sun in the afternoon and evening. The sound of the River Rothay which runs alongside the apartment can be very relaxing. There is a private courtyard at the rear of the property with a bench and a washing line. Utility Room: Clothes drying area, ironing board and iron, cot and high chair Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included

Warm and welcoming

The apartment was lovely to come back to after a day out walking. It was well equipped and very clean on our arrival.

Lindsay was great to deal with in relation to booking the apartment and offered great customer service. We enjoyed it so much we have rebooked for later in the year.

Ideal accommodation with disabiity

The apartment was very well equipped and adapted for a disabled guest. My 86 year old father was very relaxed and coped easily moving around the spacious appartment and wet room. Facilities like this are near impossible to find in the Lake District. Grasmere is flat once you get over the initial bridge but many shops and cafes are not wheelchair friendly but we found one or two. Local Coop is five minutes walk away and very well stocked, even late on Saturday night. If weather is kind it is a lovely place to stay and owner very helpful and quick to respond to a boiler problem. Only problem was internet reception which affects TV too.

Perfect stay with elderly mother

We recently spent a week at Rothay Lodge Apartment. The apartment is very comfortable and is very well furnished and equipped. The location suited us very well, within easy walking distance of the restaurants, shops and pubs in the village of Grasmere.

My elderly mother was staying with us and she has restricted mobility, and cannot climb stairs. The apartment was perfect for her being all on the ground floor and the en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower was ideal. The one small issue that we had during the week (wi-fi stopped working) was immediately resolved with a phone call to Lindsay, the owner.

Lindsay was extremely responsive and helpful throughout the booking process and during our stay. We definitely hope to stay there again.

Perfect place to stay..

From the moment we arrived we loved the apartment. It was warm, cosy, clean and had everything we needed for a perfect week away.

They had even put a Christmas tree up in the lounge!

It is in a great location and we enjoyed our time away. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed - from washing up liquid to kitchen roll ! The communication and booking process with the owner was excellent and we would not hesitate to stay there again in the future.

A wonderful base.

I have stayed in many holiday rentals, 3 in Cumbria this year alone, but this was the nicest I have ever rented. It was well equipped, warm and had large comfortable beds. The shower in the wet room was amazing. It's location is perfect, close enough to walk to restaurants but peaceful. Grasmere was great with everything you need and plenty of options for dinner, I would recommend the Traveller's Rest. In spite of awful weather we had a lovely holiday and would love to return.

Grasmere re-visited

This is the best property we have stayed in in over 15 years of visiting the Lake district. It is comfortable, spacious and has everything you could possibly need for a holiday.

The situation is also excellent, only a short walk from the centre of Grasmere, with it's great bars & restaurants. Highly recommended.
