The cottage is situated on the shore of Loch Linnhe with access to the beach from the property garden. Small beaches can also be found at Cuil Bay and Port Appin, both within 25 minutes drive.

Travel:

Glasgow and Inverness Airport are both about a 2 hour drive away. Edinburgh Airport is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes away. Car use is recommended.

Ballachulish Village 3 miles.

Fort William 13 miles.

Oban 30 miles.

Corran Ferry 5 miles.

Further Details:

The area is ideal for Oban, Ardnamurchan, Fort William, Glencoe and Mallaig. Daytrips are possible to Mull, Skye, the Cairngorms and Eigg, Muck & Rum. There are plenty of things to do and see. Ballachulish is midway between the ski-centres of the White Corries and Aonach Mor. There is excellent hill-walking on the doorstep as well as a new cycle path - a good stretch of the new cycle path between Oban and Ballachulish is now open.

The area around the cottage - Lettermore - was made famous by Robert Louis Stevenson in the 19th century as the partial setting for his novel Kidnapped. The key moment, the murder of Campbell of Glenure, was based on a real event a few hundred yards from the cottage and now marked by a cairn.

The 9-hole Dragon's Tooth Golf Course is opposite the cottage and boat trips and boat hire operate from beneath the Ballachulish Bridge, less than a kilometre away.

Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain, is a 25 minute drive away. There are several castles to visit within easy driving distance as well as other sites of historical interest including Glencoe where the infamous massacre took place.

There is a well stocked small Co-op in the village of Ballachulish and larger supermarkets in Fort William and Oban.

Notes on accommodation: The cottage is non smoking throughout. It is suitable for children. Sorry no pets. Note: 1 double bedroom and 1 bedroom with adult size bunk beds. Outside: The cottage is attached to our main house and has its own unenclosed section of garden giving views over the loch. Garden furniture is provided. We have some very inquisitive chickens that like to forage amongst the mature plants in the garden! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is cleaned weekly. Bedlinen is provided. Towels are not included. Other: There is a selection of books to choose from. Electricity for heating, lighting and fuel is an extra charge and is payable by the guest on departure. Electricity charges are based on the individual meter readings.

Charming accommodation! Loved the chickens!

Confortable bed and lots of reading material. The floor felt a little cold at times but we felt reluctant to to turn up the heat as we weren't sure what the end cost would be. As a guide for others, we were there 3 nights and the extra charge for electricity and heat was 10 pounds. Perhaps it would be better to put the rate up a bit and include the electricity and heat. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. I appreciate your feedback – it’s a difficult judgement to make whether to include electricity or not. We only pass on electricity at cost and we can see advantages to our customers from either option. Opinion from feedback seems equally divided but I can see having more certainty over cost is helpful and I have already made a change to included electricity in the price. The beech floor can feel cold at times but I hope you found the wood stove made the room cosy. I like to set the fire and provide a basket of logs free of charge for each guests arrival.

A cosy, place to stay. We would come back here.

The cottage was a lovely, clean place to stay. Everything required for a stay was provided. A place to watch the sun setting over the mountains, if you're lucky. I understand the payment for the electric used. I'm sure that guests would like to come back after a day of sightseeing to a cosy warm cottage by leaving the heaters on all day. I, think the electric payment encourages guests not to waste energy.

Beautiful setting and welcoming host.

Very relaxing environment especially cosy living room with wood fire. Caroline was a pleasure to deal with and helpful, not to mention the fresh eggs from the friendly chickens that roam the yard. Bathroom was a lttle awkward as was the requirement to calculate electricity usage. But overall an enjoyable experience.

WOW what a great place to stay!!

This cottage and grounds were amazing. The owners were on holiday the week we were there, but they were great with communicating with us prior and during our stay. We had a great time helping tend to the chickens! My wife and daughter had given each a nick name before we left, they became part of our family too!! We enjoyed the eggs each morning from our new friends as well. The kitchen is well equipped as we made meals there everyday. The beds are comfortable, never a morning with a sore back and that says a lot because I have a bad back. The views of Loch Linnhe are breathtaking and we shot many a photo of its different moods throughout the week.

On a sad note my wife lost one of her favorite rings on the property while we were there. She left a note for Caroline to let her know if she ever runs across it. Well Caroline did much better then that. She searched the property and FOUND AND SENT IT!! It just arrived and my wife could not be happier!! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! That's the type of care and service you can expect.

The cottage is very centrally located to explore the Highland area of Glencoe, Oban, Ft. Williams, Isle of Skye etc. etc. Lots of great pubs and restaurants near by. Try the Old Inn great steaks, liver pate, and chickpea burgers. Grocery stores are located very close in Ballachulish and Ft. Williams.

We will definitely stay here again and highly recommend that you give this great cottage a try!!!!!!!!!

Booking Notes:
A non-refundable booking deposit of 25% per week is required to confirm accommodation. Confirmation will be issued upon receipt of deposit. The balance of rental is payable 4 weeks before arrival and is non refundable. Guests are advised to ensure they have adequate travel insurance in case they have to cancel their stay.

Changeover Day:
Bookings are normally taken from a Saturday to Saturday. Entry is from 14:30. Departure is by 10:30 on day of departure.
