About the property

Cottage in Ullswater, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Elevated Position Above Glenridding And Ullswater

Helvellyn cottage is lakeland stone cottage which was originally built for the workers at Greenside mine above Glenridding. It is located on the bridlepath that leadfs to the old mine and Helvellyn, in an elevated position above the village of Glenridding and Ullswater. The cottage sleeps 4 people and retains many original features as well as benefiting from what you'd come to expect for a "home from home", including a wood burning stove, full central heating, leather sofas and much more besides. There is a secure garden alongside the cottage with superb views of the fells and down towards the lake. There are literally hundreds of walks from the door, including a short downhill one of some 500 yards to the nearest pub! Pets are very welcome. Free WiFi.

About Emma Shephard

We moved to the Lake District over 10 years ago and live just down the road from the cottage in the village of Patterdale. We love the area and when not working or cleaning were like to spend as much time as possible walking the fells with our Black Labrador.

Emma Shephard purchased this cottage in 2005

Cosy and well equipped cottage in a fabulous location

  • 5 of 5

Our stay couldn't have been nicer. The location of this cottage is brilliant if you like walking because you can easily access so many different walks direct from the front door. And you can also walk into the village.

Once there, you wouldn't necessarily need to use your car at all.

As the cottage is on a bridle path there is hardly any traffic passing and the views from the front are magnificent.

The cottage is very pretty and is equipped with everything you might need - everything is clean and in good order. The beds were comfy with quality bedding.

We especially enjoyed our lakeside walk to Aira Force and the friendly service and decent pub grub in the Travellers Rest (nearest pub to the cottage) and White Lion Inn in nearby Patterdale.

We were only there for a short break but would love to return. Highly recommended!

Short break

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect for me. In a wonderful location, comfortable and with great views, I felt at home. The owners wen to a lot of trouble ensuring the cottage was clean and I was made to feel very welcome. I am going back next year.

Thank you.

Excellent cosy cottage with lovely views

  • 5 of 5

Everything is good about this cottage. It's location is fantastic, quiet with beautiful views and direct access to the hills. It is tastefully furnished in a simple and non-chintzy style, and impeccably clean. The cottage is well equipped, with real thought about supplying everything you need. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. There is a great wood burning stove fire, and everything is cost and very comfortable for 2-4 guests.

I was staying with my two sons (aged 5 and 12), who both enjoyed the cottage. It would also be excellent for a quiet stay for a couple, and I hope to find an opportunity to return with my good lady.
