The lodge sits within an acre of garden, enjoying a fruitful orchard. Internally the lodge is complimented with oak beams, Heavitree stone, granite mantel pieces and slate window sills. Due to its position in the middle of the countryside it has its own natural spring providing fresh, crisp water. There are also solar panels and a wood burner to heat the water and under floor heating. The lodge is an ideal retreat to get away from it all, relax and enjoy the views and peace. The lodge is over a 100 years old and houses the original gate pillars to the Oxton house. On top of the pillars are the only original urns left.

About Nicky Daniel

We bought Exeter Lodge when it was derelict and required renovating. The house was stripped to literally just to its walls and some roof rafters. The walls varied in construction from bricks, to cob and Heavitree stone. The roof was tiled with slates, the floors were relayed, the electrics and plumbing redone, walls and ceilings re-plastered, fire places re-established and all re-decorated. All windows and doors were replaced, ensuring the character of the property was reinstated to the 19c. To add a modern touch, under floor heating was added which is run by a biomass boiler from the main house and solar panels heat the water. The lodge has its own bore hole, which provides crisp, filtered water.

The lodge is nestled amongst historic woodland and boasts its own secret, stunning view over the rolling Devon countryside, out to the Exe Estuary and the sea beyond. It is a perfect place to recoup and relax but also to be able to explore the local countryside and the beautiful city of Exeter, which is only a few miles down the road.

Notes on accommodation: Newly installed for 2015: luxurious hot tub Outside: Surrounding the lodge is an acre of ground which includes an orchard, lawns and patio area with a barbecue. There is a driveway in front of the lodge which leads in to parking spaces. Wonderful area to relax or play games in the garden. Utility Room: Separate utility room with washing machine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, bed linen and tea towels are included. Linen/towels, and property are cleaned weekly.

Wow! Spectacular views

On arrival at the lodge we were taken away with the fantastic view from the from of the property. We entered the lodge via the small by cozy warm lounge that lead into a spacious kitchen and dining room with bedrooms off. The whole property was clean and welcoming with tastefully chosen decoration that made it feel like home from home. We were four adults with a small dog looking for walks and relaxation. We were certainly not disappointed. The walks were fantastic albeit a challenge to get up the hill on the return trip! We walked to the local pubs and found them to be friendly and relaxing. One tip, take a torch if you plan to venture out in the evening as it is very dark on the way back to the lodge. We were glad we had ours! One morning was a bit wet so we ventured into Exeter for a look around. We found it to be a little disjointed in it's layout but it passed the time for the morning. The owners are building a house near the lodge but this did not take away from the outstanding views and sense of privacy. We would highly recommend this property to like minded dog walkers and others looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Stunning !!

Exeter Lodge is a fantastic holiday cottage, in beautiful grounds, full of wild life and nothing else but peace and quite, fantastic hot tub right next to Master Bedroom containing 4 poster bed, all very obviously loved by the owners, clean and tidy and fully equipped. over looking the sweeping hills of the Exe Estuary and into the quaint village of Dawlish. Very well situated for many attractions such as Exeter, Dawlish, Dawlish warren, Cockington , Dartmoor and so much more, lovely pub about 5 minutes drive away, serving lovely food at competitive prices. (the lanes are very narrow and winding so extra care is needed to get to the main roads, (approx 10 minute drive away)

Not fortunate enough to meet the owners but intend to return in the future .

Came home feeling fully relaxed and recharged. Amazing . Thank you

Owner's Response: The lodge is a retreat away from the hustle and bustle, in which you can unwind and relax in the peace and quiet. There are numerous walks and treats in store in the local area. The lanes venture through a historic woodland so you never know what animals you may come across, from deer and pheasants to hawks and buzzards!

Further Details:

Dartmoor National Park consists of 368 square miles of open countryside. Ideal for leisurely walks, hiking, climbing, sailing, canoeing and biking.

Haldon woods is a few miles down the road and can be reached to by bike or feet from the lodge (it is a challenging track). Haldon woods consist of cycling tracks, walking and riding trails and Go Ape tree climbing.

On the Exe estuary there is a floating restaurant sitting between Exmouth and Starcross, call the River Exe café. You can catch a ferry from Starcross to the café. It hosts great comedy and music nights as well as serving great tasting locally sourced food.

There are a range of parks for the children including Crealy, Woodlands, Countrylife.

25% deposit on time of booking followed by the balance 6 weeks prior to your arrival. £200 refundable damage deposit also payable with the balance.

Changeover Day:
Change over day is on a Friday for a 7 day booking. Departure 10am and arrivals are 4pm.

  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
