About the property

Prime position with large terrace overlooking the picturesque quayside. Two minute stroll to the beach

Manor Cottage is a grade two listed building originally built in the 1820's. Situated in the conservation area of Ilfracombe Harbour, it provides guests with the opportunity to experience many contrasts; a traditional home with modern features; a bustling seaside town set within the rural beauty of North Devon: the calm of the Exmoor National Park alongside a vibrant surfing and artistic cultural life. With the sands of the Harbour beach only a moments walk away you can while away your hours watching the ebb and flow of the waters from the sun terrace, take a stroll across the quay to get a closer view of Ilfracombe's newest and most talked about arrival, Verity or you may be lucky enough to catch the lifeboat station personnel running through their launch drills. Renovated and decorated to a high standard, Manor Cottage is furnished with a mix of vintage and contemporary furniture. Well equipped with the amenities one would expect of the modern home, you can relax and get away from it all, or stay in touch and connected in comfort.

About Liz

As a family with two young children, we like to spend as much time near to the sea as we can. We always enjoy the time that we spend at Manor Cottage and have made every effort to make it feel like home. We are interested in good design and skilled craft, and feel that the Cottage reflects something of that, and as a result it feels like a good place to be, even on those rainy days we all have.

Why Liz chose Ilfracombe

We have spent many happy holidays on the North Devon coast over the years and have long had an affection for Ilfracombe. A bustling town with its own beaches and close proximity to fantastic coastline and countryside, it still has the feel of a traditional Victorian seaside resort. With a range of local independent shops, restaurants and galleries, as well as the cinema and much loved museum for the children, we have often spent a week here with no need to leave the town.

What makes this cottage unique

Manor Cottage has given us the opportunity to swim before breakfast and dine on the beach. We have eaten fish caught that morning while watching the fishermen unload their boats on the quay below. We have discovered the joy of returning to a place that we and our children are familiar and comfortable with, where we know that we will be welcome. We hope that you will find the same and once you have visited, decide to do so again.

Harbourside Bliss

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Manor Cottage following a fantastic week in the summer. We were so impressed we booked again for a pre Christmas treat! The location is second to none with the terrace overlooking the harbour.. it is a great place for watching the world go by. We were lucky to have a full morning of the RNLI training in the harbour on the Saturday morning watched with a coffee on the cottage terrace! The accommodation is superb with everything you need for a family stay , we went with a family of 3 plus our parents in the summer and this time with our daughter and partner and there was plenty of room for us all. The configuration of two bedrooms on the 1st floor with a bathroom and a ground floor bedroom with its own spacious wet room and separate toilet are ideal family accommodation. The decor is beautiful and the owners have done a fantastic job in making it a real seaside getaway with all the home comforts. With all the facilities and attractions of Ilfracombe straight from your doorstep our car never left the property (which comes with a garage..bonus!). Gorgeous restaurants, bars, traditional pubs , shops and cinema all a short walk truly is a relaxing holiday. The coastal walks are also straight from the property, as are the many little coves and beaches to explore...all dog friendly (apart from the Tunnels beach). I cannot recommend this place enough ...bravo to the very friendly owners who have made this a real home from home.

Fantastic property!

  • 5 of 5

This is the most gorgeous cottage to spend time at. We spent lots of time on the balcony just watching the tide come and go, the view was amazing. The cottage was pristine with everything we could have needed.

There really was nothing I can say that was a negative.

A beautiful setting and a very comfortable and well presented cottage. A good time was had by everyone with fishing trips, sea safaris and plenty of walks for the dog.

Superb stay

  • 5 of 5

Manor Cottage is incredibly sited right at the edge of Ilfracombe harbour. There is always something to see, especially from the fabulous terrace, where we enjoyed almost every meal. Well appointed with comfortable beds and an exceptional shower, we cooked fresh fish in the modern, well equipped kitchen. A dishwasher is always welcome on holiday! The house is ingeniously designed to maximise use of the space. There are various sets of fairly steep stairs, but didn't cause us a problem. Lovely walks straight from the front door, the harbour beach is dog friendly and about two minutes walk away. Having a garage is incredibly useful. Ilfracombe has a good high street, a brisk walk uphill from the house, with mostly small independent traders; two butchers, a baker and a fruit and veg shop. Much nearer for groceries is a well stocked newsagent. Plenty of souvenir shops, fish and chips, restaurants, fudge shops and cream teas moments away. We made good use of them all. The house accommodated 6 adults and two smallish dogs with ease. I sincerely hope we will be able to stay there again, we had a wonderful time at this first class property.

Charming Harbourside Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My Fiancé and I booked Harbour Cottage for a long weekend over the May Bank Holiday as our friend was getting married at the Tunnels Beaches. Liz was very accommodating in letting us come down on the Thursday night as the wedding was on the Friday afternoon, allowing us time to settle in and get ready at the Cottage rather than rush down the M5 on Friday morning. When we arrived there was a lovely bottle of red and complementary biscuits waiting for us which was much appreciated after a 4 hour drive! The view from the cottage is fantastic and with the weather being as good as it was we were able to enjoy a lovely BBQ on the outside decking overlooking the harbour. If you are a walker, this is a great central location to walk from and if you are an aperitif enjoyer there are plenty of wonderful watering holes within walking distance, we really didn't need the car to get around for the whole weekend. The facilities in the cottage were fantastic and really met every need we had. Great kitchen space with plenty of utensils, lovely bathroom and wetroom, washing machine facilities should you need them and very comfy beds with great views from both master bedrooms. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone wishing to visit Ilfracombe or the surrounding areas.
