Manor Cottage is a grade two listed building originally built in the 1820's. Situated in the conservation area of Ilfracombe Harbour, it provides guests with the opportunity to experience many contrasts; a traditional home with modern features; a bustling seaside town set within the rural beauty of North Devon: the calm of the Exmoor National Park alongside a vibrant surfing and artistic cultural life. With the sands of the Harbour beach only a moments walk away you can while away your hours watching the ebb and flow of the waters from the sun terrace, sample the fresh seafood landed that day or take a stroll across the quay to get a closer view of Ilfracombe's newest and most talked about arrival, Verity. Renovated and decorated to a high standard, Manor Cottage is furnished with a mix of vintage and contemporary furniture. Well equipped with the amenities one would expect of the modern home, you can relax and get away from it all, or stay in touch and connected in comfort.

About Liz

As a family with two young children, we like to spend as much time near to the sea as we can. We always enjoy the time that we spend in Manor Cottage and have made every effort to make it feel like home. We are interested in good design and skilled craft, and feel that the Cottage reflects something of that, and as a result it feels like a good place to be, even on those rainy days we all have.

Why Liz chose North Devon

We have spent many happy holidays on the North Devon coast over the years and have long had an affection for Ilfracombe. A bustling town with its own beaches and close proximity to fantastic coastline and countryside, it still has the feel of a traditional Victorian seaside resort. With a range of local independent shops, restaurants and galleries, as well as the cinema and much loved museum for the children, we have often spent a week here with no need to leave the town.

What makes this cottage unique

Manor Cottage has given us the opportunity to swim before breakfast and dine on the beach. We have eaten fish caught that morning while watching the fishermen unload their boats on the quay below. We have discovered the joy of returning to a place that we and our children are familiar and comfortable with, where we know that we will be welcome. We hope that you will find the same and once you have visited, decide to do so again.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Manor Cottage is a unique property equipped for the whole family. Mobile phone coverage can be poor in the area, but there is a landline at the cottage for incoming calls and secure wifi provides excellent communication links. For young children, travel cot and high chair are also provided. We are happy to accommodate a well behaved family pet. Outside: The cottage has three outside areas. On the ground floor, french windows from bedroom 2 open onto a small paved garden planted with perennials and hardy seaside plants, with bench to relax on whilst watching the world go by. On first floor level a sun terrace is accessed from the lounge. With unrestricted views of the harbour, quayside and the sea beyond, this space has a large teak table and chairs to allow you to enjoy the view whilst enjoying an alfresco meal. At the rear of the cottage there is a small sheltered courtyard accessed from the kitchen. Utility Room: Downstairs utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and reclaimed butler's sink. Reclaimed slate floor. Access to garage and secure parking. Access to separate WC and to the Wetroom. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and bath towels are provided. Please bring your own beach towels. Property serviced at changeover or weekly. Other: Below the Cottage in former boathouse is a garage which provides off road parking, storage for all seaside essentials and which can be accessed from outside or through the utility room

Restful with an active harbour to watch or explore at your fingertips

First impressions of the house were good. A large bedroom downstairs with an amazing huge shower leading off with the utility room. Up a flight of steep but not difficult stairs and to the right are two bedroom and a bathroom, to the left is a lovely living room with plenty of seating leading out through full doors onto a large terrace with beautiful views of the harbour which is just in front of the house. The kitchen is on a mezzanine level above the living room and is well equipped, al though the freezer bit in the fridge needed defrosting. A couple of cobwebs, a couple of creaky floorboards but only little faults,all in all I love the place. Highly recommend

For quite a few years we have holidayed around Ilfracombe almost always ending up at the harbour for hours during the days. This always involved packing dog leads, drinks for us and them etc. Not any more! Not now we have discovered this property. We can take the dogs onto the beach anytime just going down the steps by the house to take us directly on to the harbour and the beach then back to the house for a drink and food. Another nice walk is up to Hillsborough which the dogs love, it's a big grassy area which leads onto the cliffs and the coast path. Our two favourite places both nearby!

We settled straight into the house as did the dogs. It became home for our stay. We all read a lot mostly sitting on the terrace. So peaceful and relaxing, rarely used the car, only to stock up on food from local Tesco and Lidl every few days.

Looking forward to next summer now we have found this property.

Outstanding!

This cottage is the perfect get away. The cottage itself is beautiful, very clean and quirky! The view of the harbour is stunning. We went with friends to celebrate a 40th birthday and couldn't have asked for more. Ilfracombe is beautiful, friendly and there is plenty to do. The owner of the cottage is wonderful, very helpful and easy to communicate with. We will be booking early each year to secure our place in this gorgeous little gem!

Lovely cottage, great location

We stayed here for 4 nights with an 18month old baby. Lots of books for the little one plus highchair and travel cot.

The layout is lovely with views of the harbour.

The house was clean and comfortably furnished and a few teething problems dealt with efficiently by Liz.

I would definitely recommend this property.

Coast/Beach:

Manor Cottage overlooks the Quay, with Harbour Beach less than a minutes walk. Tunnels Beaches is 10 minutes walk from the cottage. Woolacombe is about a 10 minute drive away. Croyde and Saunton Beaches are approximately 20 minutes by car.

The North Devon coast is scattered with secluded coves and inlets

Travel:

Exeter airport is 64 miles away, with a park and ride available in High Season, taking you to Ilfracombe High street and the Harbour.

Regular and convenient Bus services run to Barnstaple, Braunton, Lynton and Lynmouth, Woolacombe.

The nearest train station is Barnstaple. Tiverton Parkway is approx an hours taxi ride away, with a regular service to London Paddington.

Further Details:

The cottage is a few minutes walk from Fore Street and Quayside, the site of a number of excellent restaurants, bars and pubs. High quality independent butchers, bakers and grocers provide a courteous and friendly service for those days when you may wish to cook for yourself, and you can even walk down to the quay to buy fresh fish landed that day. It is quite possible to meet all of your needs without leaving the town as it is still intact as a small town of independent retailers and a regular farmers market, with a minimal presence of big chains. With cinema and theatre in the centre of town and a burgeoning artistic/gallery community there is opportunity enough to while away rainy days, should you have any.
