About Bev Boffey

Mark and Bev were born into farming families and have their own herd of suckler cows and calves which are a a french breed called Bazadaise.

We also do square baling and wrapping for farmers from springtime until Autumn and then hedgecutting during the wintertime which keeps us both busy with the cottages as well.

In our spare time, we have a black fresian horse who we compete at dressage locally and we also love to take our German Shepherd to the woods which are local to us.

Bev Boffey purchased this bungalow in 2013

Why Bev Boffey chose West Midlands

Great for walks along the canals and hills. Oakwood is located in a quiet position in the village. The church is within walking distance and has a bell ringing night every wednesday night. We are both on hand if there are any problems as we are only a 2 minute drive away and we do have a very good neighbour who will help you if there is a problem. As there are no stairs it is ideal for the elderly or people with not so good mobility. The property is warm and cosy but very spacious. There is parking for 2 cars and a secure garage for bikes. The location is central for many attractions, please our website for places and events to visit. We also have our two farm cottages if Oakwood is not available which have been awarded the prestigious Gold award from Shropshire Tourism for the sixth year. Sleeps two or six people or can accommodate 8 when booked together but sorry we do not allow dogs in these cottages due to our livestock and wildlife pond.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed in Oakwood whilst our daughter who was having her first child stayed in the farm cottages and we loved the place. It was lovely and warm and had the same good qualities as the farm properties. Quality bedding and towels were provided for us and Mark & Bev were on hand if any problems occured. We were pleased to be the first guests to stay in the bungalow.

Oakpond Cottage is a beautiful countryside cottage

  • 5 of 5

Oakpond cottage is a quiet and well kept cottage in the country. Everything you could wish for is provided. The Kitchen is large and contains a lovely kitchen table where all the family can sit around and talk. The living area is cosy and clean with a woodburning stove if required. All bedrooms are comfortable with plenty of bedding provided.

The cottage sits in an idealic area with lots of wildlife. Bev and Mark are extremely friendly and helpful, we had beautiful scones, jam and gorgeous cream on arrival with milk in the fridge, eggs from the free range chickens, tea and coffee provision.

This is our second visit to Oakpond Cottage and we hope to return. We found the spa facilities to be a relaxing pleasure following days out (a bit of icing on the cake you might say). We would recommend this property to anyone wishing peace, quiet and comfort, although we would like to keep this to ourselves as our own sanctuary.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your kind review regarding our other lovely property called Oakpond. We were very pleased that you visited us again for the second time and it is always a pleasure to see you all again. Tripod had a good week visiting you for treats and looks foreward to meeting you again. I have to make the scones which are made with our free range eggs on the day as they have to be eaten fresh but is enjoyed by all. We hope to see you again.

Stunning Shropshire bungalow

  • 5 of 5

Oakwood was even better than the listing description, situated in a beautifully quiet hamlet, very private, everything you would need was in the property, decor was well thought out with lovely personal touches to make it feel like a home. Bedding was lovely and extremely comfortable. Owners very welcoming and informative of surrounding area and our dogs. Shropshire is a fantastic place to visit, lots of things to do, we loved visiting the Ironbridge area and Ellesmere, we will definitely be visiting this county again and thoroughly recommend Oakwood - the best holiday property we have every stayed at!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your kind review regarding your stay in Oakwood. There are a lot of places to visit as we are on the Shropshire/Cheshire border and not to far away from from the Staffordshire and Welsh borders. We are lucky to have such a world famous attraction such as Ironbridge only 40 minutes from the cottages. We hope to see you again.

Excellent accommodation & hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Superb, clean & comfortable accommodation in a lovely quiet location. The bungalow was as described, and the large enclosed garden perfect for our dog & for sitting in after a long day of walking. There is a lot of information provided to help you plan your stay, from details of local pubs to leaflets from local attractions. We found the owners, Bev and Mark, really friendly and helpful, and we really appreciated the fresh eggs they brought round part-way through our stay.

The only thing the listing description doesn't mention is how scrumptious the homemade cake is, and how big it is. (An absolutely delicious cake which didn't last as long as it should've done!!)

I will DEFINITELY be recommending this property to family, friends, or in fact anyone wanting to explore the surrounding area, and hope to come back again in the future.

Homely - great holiday destination

  • 5 of 5

The bungalow was very welcoming and clean, which set our holiday off very nicely. Bev's homemade cake was a very nice addition. There was so much to see in and around Whitchurch that we are planning another visit.

Bev and Mark do go out of their way to make you feel at home.

Even though we did not see Bev on arrival, she came to see us 2 days later with some free range eggs.

I'll definitely recommend this place- ideal for young families as well.

Outstanding country bungalow

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we have stayed in this cottage. We returned as we were so impressed by the owners' hospitality, local knowledge, and kindness, the cottage's idyllic location, the attention to detail within the cottage, and the places of interest we still wanted to visit. We were not disappointed. Oakwood is a delightful place to stay - one of the best and we highly recommend it.

Attractions worth a visit are the Bhurtpor Inn on Tuesday evening to watch the local Morris Dancers' practise!, the waterfall at Pistyll Rhaeadr, and the scenery and walks at Carding Mill Valley and Long Mynd.

Owner's Response: Thank you both for this lovely review and it was lovely seeing you both again. The weather was a mixed bag but it sounds like this did not stop you from visiting one of many places around the area. We do try to make our cottages home from home with comfort. Many thanks and will see you in the near future if ever we are around your neck of the woods. Bev

A sunny week in Shropshire

  • 4 of 5

We recently enjoyed a very pleasant week in Shropshire staying at Oakwood cottage. This was the first time we had stayed here - we had friends living not too far away at Audlam. The cottage was very clean and tidy - with an enclosed garden which was ideal for our well behaved golden retriever. The cottage/bungalow was fairly new in a small pleasant development in a very quiet village. I would have no hesitation in recommending it for a couple - there are some walks nearby - but we went further afield - walking by the canal in Audlam to the marina - to Shrewsbury and Llangollen. That week it was particularly hot (not so good for the dog) so every morning we went 10 minutes up the road to a small nature reserve call Brown Moss which was ideal as a number of dogs were "cooling off" in the lake. We ate all our meals "al Fresco" that week either in the garden, or at our friend house or at the Combermere Arms pub (which I think is excellent) - we called into the Olde Jack for a drink which was OK - but the Combermere Arms is by far the best. The countryside is very pleasant and very rural - so ideal for a quiet stay - a must see is the Hawkstone Park Follies - but wear good walking shoes. Many thanks to Bev & Mark for their help and especially the free range eggs and sponge cake on arrival - their website is very accurate as to all facilities. Kind Regards Gerry & Claudine.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. Yes, the week was very hot here and not so good for dogs but at least she could cool down at the Brown Moss Nature reserve lake. There are many walks not too far away from the bungalow such as the Hawkestone Follies and the beautiful staircase locks at Audlem and also the famous Sandstone Trail. Kind Regards Bev
