About the property

Breton House opposite the beach 5 mins walk from lively village and port with boulangerie,supermarket and restaurants.

A 3 story Bretton house in a small fishing port 100m from a safe sandy beach with lifeguards in the summer. Front and back gardens, off street parking. Comfortably sleeps 10, 2 double 3 twin bedrooms two en suite showers and a family bathroom. The first floor has a large sitting/dining room, kitchen and study. A wrought iron balcony at the front of the house faces south to the sea for morning coffee and a terrace at the back accessed from the kitchen, with large table for outdoor dining. Steps down to the garden. The study has WiFi Internet, TV, DVD and desk. 4 Bicycles (small adult or bigger), table tennis. The village has restaurants from excellent "Le Vivier" to simple crepe, pizza and other bars. The supermarket has everything necessary and there are 2 bakeries. Activities close by are extensive, Golf, Surfing, sailing school, horse riding all within 5km. Lorient town holds the Inter Celtic festival in August, and has historic submarine pens.

About Janet Wright

I live with my husband David in the South of England. We have two sons the eldest travelling the world and the youngest just finished his second year at university.

We bought our house 14 years ago and I spent most holidays there with them and with David as often as possible as he travels often with work. Wonderful memories, easy holidays always a sense of calm escape.

We are unable to use the house as often as we would like so hope others will get the same enjoyment from it.

Why Janet Wright chose Lorient area

We had previously had mobile home and camping holidays in the region, love Brittany for its diverse weather, food, wine, markets, beaches and people.

The village still thrives out of season with restaurants and shops, quieter but still open in comparison to some areas we looked at. Close to the market town of ploemeur with its fantastic Sunday morning market just an 8km cycle ride away and a trip to the Isle de Groix 8 km by boat, and the Town of Lorient with its beautiful marina and home to the interceltique festival every August.

What makes this house unique

We have a very civilised journey to Lomener, In Portsmouth we hop on an overnight ferry to St Malo with a meal and a bed then arrive early at a civilised hour with a 2 hour motorway drive to the property. Lots of other routes possible depending on time restrictions.

The village has expanded in the time we have had the house, with a thriving village community, the bakery is a 2 min walk in the morning there is a lovely cave for wine purchases and fishmonger with local fish in season plus an EcoMarche supermarket with great meat supplies, all in 5 minutes walking distance.

There is life guard support on the beach throughout July and August and 15 minutes drive to the Atlantic beach if your into kite surfing, body boarding, surfing etc. There is an 18 hole golf course overlooking the Atlantic beach.

Excellent cycle paths and routes the Tour de France has passed through in previous years.

Notes on accommodation: Comfortable family accommodation with plenty of space. The house is not ideal for small children with common areas and stairs being marble and unrestricted access to balcony and terrace. Strict no smoking policy applied. No pets accepted. No access to the garage. Outside: Front and back gardens, with lawns and flower beds. Front and side gates can be locked. The front balcony is ideal for late breakfasts the back patio area on the first floor good for evening sun. Outdoor furniture supplied on the back terrace. BBQ and 6 sun loungers. Table tennis table. 4 bicycles of various sizes (large child to adult) use is at own risk. Utility Room: The utility room on the ground floor has freezer, washing machine and tumble drier, access to the garden and an outside shower as you come off the beach. And a large concrete sink. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Weekly cleaning and linen change. Room towels and linen included. Beach towels not provided. Other: A study with desk and internet connection with TV and DVD player. Cupboard with books and board games.

Our Second Visit

This was our second visit to the house. We enjoyed our time there in 2014 and were looking forward to returning. All the arrangements with the owner were friendly and efficient. The house and garden were immaculate. It was nice to have the new kitchen as we self catered for a few days. The restaurants in Lomener are very good our favourites were "Cote Sud" and "Moulin Vert". The service is always friendly. We enjoyed playing table tennis when it was a few degrees cooler but most of the week it was very warm. We caught the bus to Ploemeur this time so we could explore on foot. On our last visit we drove in on Market Day which was very busy. We visited Vannes again this time to visit the Aquarium and Butterfly house. Well worth a visit but beware they are closed between 12 noon and 2pm. We had some lovely walks along by the beach. The bays are beautiful with lots of rock pools. The house is in such a great spot with easy access to the beach (just cross the road) a short walk to shops and restaurants and a bus stop opposite if you don't want to drive. This house ticked all the boxes for our group including somewhere for the men to go fishing! We would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful holiday home.

A perfect property in every respect.

The property is perfect in every respect. A well kept, spacious, immaculately clean, and comfortable home. Location too is perfect, with the beach literally just across the road, and baker, restaurants, supermarket and other amenities all within a short walking distance. We particularly enjoyed the great coastal walks accessed to both the left and right of the property. There is large market on Sunday in nearby Ploemeur. Concarneau, 50 minutes drive away towards Quimper, is indeed a pretty and interesting place to visit. We had a most relaxing and enjoyable stay. Thoroughly recommended.

Spacious house, great garden, super location.

Large house with plenty of space inside and out. Great location moments from the lovely sandy beach and 5 mins walk from the village with bars restaurants and shops. We tried 2 restaurants in the village Le Vivier which was a wonderful fish restaurant with brilliant sea views and simple bar/restaurant Le Cote Sud which was good value and also had a nice view over the harbour. The weather was super so we really enjoyed being in the garden and eating on the first floor terrace. We played golf at two excellent courses One a links course next to sea with great sea vistas Golf Blue Green de Ploemeur Océan which was 15 minutes drive and the other inland set in a forest called Golf Blue Green Val Queven which is a classic parkland course in excellent condition. Great holiday did not have time to everything the area had to offer.

Fabulous Holiday

We have just had a fabulous holiday in Lomener. We loved the house you can tell it has been furnished for the family's use and not just for strangers in a holiday home. The garden was delightful, the lawn mowed and not a weed in sight. We were extemely lucky with beautiful weather every day. Our men fished from the "arm" on the beach and one day caught mackeral and garfish which we cooked and ate. The "girls" prefered the walk around the bay although we did like looking in the numerous rock pools. We enjoyed the balcony for our morning coffee and the sun was still there in the evening for our G & T! The supermarket is about 7 minutes walk from the house and we were spoilt for choice when it came to restaurants all within easy walking distance. It is so pleasant to have a meal overlooking the sea. We collected our breakfast fresh from the Bakery (5 mins) every morning - heaven! There is a bus stop almost opposite the house and we caught the bus there into Lorient, a 40 minute trip, which is great way to see the area. From there we took a ferry trip to the Ile de Groix which was lovely but don't go on Friday as the bus we wanted to catch for the island tour does not run on that day! We also drove to various places. The Sunday market was much larger than expected and took sometime for us to wander around. Vannes is a beautiful place and the little land train a great way to see it. We spent time in St Malo (another great place) before catching the ferry back to Portsmouth. A cabin on the overnight ferry was an enjoyable way to travel as it was long enough to get a decent night's sleep. We came home feeling totally relaxed and cannot wait to go back again!

Merveilleuse maison et emplacement idéal

J'avais déjà écrit une commentaire plus long mais celui-ci a été supprimé, donc pour gagner du temps je vais juste dire que je recommande à 100% la maison. On était 9, il y avait largement de la place. On s'est baigné sur la petite plage en face de la maison, et le surf à Guidel (15 min en voiture) est extraordinaire. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié la petite terrasse aussi, pour déjeuner au soleil. Merci!

2 Minute walk to the sheltered beach with walkways to village and coastal paths. 10 minute drive to Atlantic beach where body boarding, surfing, kite surfing take place weather permitting , 10 minute walk in the other direction to Kerguelen sailing school.


Travel from Portsmouth to St Malo overnight then 2 hour drive to the house.

Nearest airport is Lorient which is a 15 min drive, flights via Paris. Flybe / Easyjet to Brest, hire a car and a 1 hour 15 min drive to the house. BA London City Airport to Quimper (40 minute drive). Other useful ferries. Plymouth-Roscoff, Portsmouth-Caen and high speed Portsmouth to Cherbourg. Brittany ferries owners club discount is available on request.


Local shops restaurant's, supermarket, bakery, ATM Cashpoint all within 5 minutes walk. 5 Km to Ploemeur for Sunday Morning market and banks. 8 Km City of Lorient with Port du Pleasance and Inter Celtique festival in August. 7Km to Cite de la Voile Eric Tabarly (Base de Sous-Marins)
