About the property

Lodge in Great Elm, Nr. Frome, Somerset, England - It Is A Peaceful Location But Not To Far From Amenities Although Transport Would Be An Advantage

The Lodge is perfect for a few days getaway if you want peace and quiet. It has wonderful walks with woods in the village. There is a cycle track that runs along near the farm. There is fishing on the river at Great Elm and Mells.

The Lodge is built with Green Oak and is a beautiful building with underfloor heating and hot water powered from the hidden solar panels. We also have our own water hole on the farm.

The lodge building and interior is based on nature and upstairs in the seating area of the bedroom are two comfortable chairs with room to put your feet up and relax and watch the sunset over the rolling Somerset countryside.

It is also based on comfort with soft fluffy towels and white company sheets .

About Sarah bradshaw

I live in a pretty village in Somerset and have a farm with mainly dressage horses but also chickens, pigs and sheep. I used to be an Interior Designer and have used this experience to decorate my little retreat for guests to stay on the farm. We have our own eggs and own meat and like to be as self sufficient as possible.

Sarah bradshaw purchased this barn in 2011

Why Sarah bradshaw chose Radstock

I love this part of Somerset as it is so beautiful. It is close enough to Bath and Salisbury for anything needed in the city. Frome the local town just 3 miles away is very alternative with local markets on certain days of the month. It is full of unusual vintage and interesting shops and cafe's

In our lovely village of Great Elm we have fantastic woods to explore full of wildlife some fabulous scenery where an old railway track has been turned into a cycle track.

We are on the boarders of Wiltshire and Dorset two other beautiful counties.

We are about a mile from the village of Mells which is also very pretty. It has all our local amenities, a postoffice with an Internet cafe, a walled garden to explore serving coffee, homemade cakes and light lunches and a lovely 16th century coaching Inn fabulous for dinner.

What makes this barn unique

The property is called the lodge and is a beautiful self-catering barn building with lovely rustic beams.

It is a real country retreat for a couple who want to get away for a few days from the stresses and strains of a busy life.

We offer our own eggs and at certain times of the year our own meat.

A great place for a quiet escape in the Somerset countryside

  • 5 of 5

The Barn was a perfect place for us to get away from the day to day busyness of life, whilst still convenient for visiting my daughter in Bath, walking at Cheddar Gorge and exploring the pretty nearby towns of Frome and Wells.

The barn is beautifully presented in a rustic and rural setting. It has all the modern facilities you need for a stay, and no more. Our favourite activity was to sit in the comfortable chairs on the upstairs mezzanine and gaze out of the floor-to-ceiling windows at the surrounding countryside, with a cup of tea, or a glass of wine, depending on the time of day. Sarah was the perfect host, with a warm friendly welcome, keen to make sure we had what we needed.

If you are looking for somewhere to enjoy a quiet, rural retreat, this a great location.

Ideal relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

The barn is fantastic. High quality and very comfortable.

The only downside is the space outside which is a yard.

Lovely walks by the river into Frome.

Lovely private barn to escape to.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here as a base for day trips to Cheddar Gorge and Longleat Safari Park for my partner’s birthday. The barn is in its own gated courtyard and is really private and secluded. The barn is really open and bright during the day but cosy and romantic later. It’s a lovely spot to get away to, has everything you need to cook and feel like you’re home from home. There are some great walks nearby too. Thanks Sarah for a really warm welcome. We really recommend this to anyone wanting a quiet stay for two!

The most incredible barn!

  • 5 of 5

This is the most beautifully designed barn I have ever seen. We have stayed in a number of cottages and barn's but this was by far the best. We came for a birthday weekend away and it was just perfect for what we wanted. It was warm and cosy on such a cold weekend and in a great location for lots of nice places to visit. We had Sunday lunch at The Talbot down the road having been recommended it and the food was absolutely delicious. Sarah also told us about the market in Frome that happens on the first Sunday of the month- it was well worth the visit. Thank you so much for such a lovely weekend!

Fantastic Short break

  • 5 of 5

A lovely spot - Barn was clean and beautiful , great views from the upstairs lounge area . Straight from the front door a Lovely walk along the river to Mells which is very quaint with a great garden cafe . We also visited Wells which is nearby and is a stunning town . Couldn't ask for anything more , Sarah has thought of everything . Enjoyed feeding the chickens from the kitchen window , as said Rooster did like to wake us up but it is so tranquil here it was lovely to just let the sounds of the countryside just wash over you .
